A minimum-wager could perform in similar fashion to the Jalopy. Waste of ****ing money.

This is a signing of which Little Billy Notgoat himself would approve, and for which he would've been Justifiably lambasted.

Never seen so many re-signings/extensions from a 4-13 team.

Keeping dudes whom the HC "likes": Meet the New boss...
When I saw this topic I reflexively scrolled for the green C and was not disappointed

Why?? I thought the emphasis was taken off ST's. That seems like a little much for $3 Mill dollar player Tops.
Well Tavai had become a starter on defense and is a tackle machine.. he's also good side line to sideline... what's this say about how the team views goddy?...

These are the type of signings with competing teams this board would’ve been laughing at when the Pats were good. They are rewarding players on a declining team.

Talk about being careful what you wish for. I really don’t like the direction of this franchise.

I’m of two minds here. Firstly, I don’t think there should’ve been any untouchables whatsoever from last season’s team. There simply wasn’t much talent and the record proves it.

As mentioned before - if you are to resign some, I don’t hate their choices. Most of the resigned players are players you can win with - I just don’t see many of them as game changers. The one game changer on this team - Gonzales - was hurt as he was coming into his own. Some will signal Judon, but I’ve not sen him make an impact at key moments during the ‘got to have it’ games.

We’ll see.

He couldn't even get a finger tip on some of those Dolphins running backs on the edge last year.
You’re one of the rare people that sees this. Those two Dolphins games really exposed how slow they are on defense. Hill and Waddle were exploding through the 2nd into the 3rd levels of the defense with ease.

In the first game, Mostert ran right by Mapu for a TD.

The fact that you think Tavai could be so easily repalced is why your ability to evaluate people is proven to be horrid. I swear that a minimum-wager with no experience evaluating football could perform in a similar fashion as you.

Tavai has gotten better each year he's been here. You thinking it was a waste means it's money well spent.

There have been so many extensions because the guys getting the extensions weren't the issue. The guys who are gone were the issue. From Mac Jones to Trent Brown to Matt Patricia and a lesser extent Belichick.

There is more than one game-changer on the team.. JUDON is a game-changer as well. I think that Barmore and White are on their way to being Game-Changers as well.

People complain about re-signing our own players. But we know more about them than anyone else. And if you sign a FA or trade to get someone, we definitely know less about them than their previous team, who was willing to let them depart.

Our cap room was somewhat deceptive because we had so few players signed after this year. Whether by design or not, the new management has the opportunity to pretty much turn the roster over. On defense they've mostly elected to stand pat, which is fine. You need LBs, particularly with the new kickoff rules, and Tavai was actually good last year.

This is exactly what is happening, and I'm on board. This is an offensive rebuild, not a team rebuild. When making significant changes to an organization, maintaining continuity and stability in certain areas is a major advantage. If they know what to expect from their defense, they can better direct their energy and resources towards fixing the offense. You can't fix everything all at once, and they have clearly prioritized improving the offense at this point.

I'm fine with this. He fits our defense. We all thought he sucked when he came here from Detroit. He's been a good player for us.

Take it for what it's worth. His overall PFF grade last year was 86.6.

I'm kind of excited to see our LB corp in action this year with Bently, Tavai, Taki Taki, Jennings and Mapu in the mix.
Where have we heard that before. . . .

great ****ing song... "winner" for that reference...

as for Tavai, keep your players who grow into their roles... it was a solid signing

I want to see the final numbers on the contract, the guaranteed dollars. Looks to be a reasonable deal for an interior run stuffer and solid zone pass defender. It's not a lot of money.

Anyone moaning about returning cost effective defenders on a defense that allowed the 5th fewest points per drive and had the 4th lowest scoring percentage in the NFL is none too smart.

Tavai’s 86.6 overall defensive grade by Pro Football Focus ranked in the top-10 of all NFL linebackers. Perhaps the best part is the fact that he is an ascending NFL talent at 27 years old.

Aint that some funny ****? Everyone brags and argues about how ****ing great the defense was. Top 5! Blah blah blah. Wolf goes and re-signs one of its top performers and everyone drops their pants and ****s all over it. Muhahaha.

Slowly eating into the 2025 cap space. OTC had them at $88m prior to this deal, which is the 2nd highest, but that excludes the huge amount from 2024 that they can roll over.

They still have a number of big name players on the team whose contracts are up after 2024:
- Judon
- Jon Jones
- Peppers
- Wise
- Godchaux

Plus the 1 year deals they signed this offseason - Jacoby, Chucks, Hooper, Osborn, Uche.

Will be interesting to see how much room they’ll have for external guys next offseason once all is said and done.
I would add Hawkins to your list of 1-year deals.

If all are extended, re-signed or replaced with equal quality players, we will have still have plenty of money to get a top WR, OT and hopefully an EDGE rusher.

This need to get Maye a Elite WR
Yes, we need to cut Osbourn or Bourne and a #1 WR.

Next year is the time to do this, when our QB is ready, and when we know what we have in our other 5 WR's.
