Patriots 53 man roster post draft

agreed Shelton was the best option. And there isn't anything we can do anyway with our current cap situation.
Yep...As I mentioned in another thread, our 90 is pretty much set until TC now.

OK, I give up.

Why can we sign any free agents with $5M of cap money available? Brady's extension will be needed later.

Few are discussing someone who would use $5M of 019 cap. We do need a swing OT and could use a backup biggie DT.

Shelton would only be the 3rd run stuffer on the team
I suspect you’re talking about Guy, whom I like a lot, but I was thinking about another big fatty. Either way, you’re right to point out that it’s not necessarily a “need,” but I’d like to have someone to bump Shelton down, if not off the list, altogether.

Butler is in the mix, too, of course.

Everybody currently on the pre-season PUP list stays off the 53 until they're no longer on it (such as Dietrich Wise, e.g.).

Are we one injury to Harry from being in a world of hurt at the wide receiver position?

Are we one injury to Harry from being in a world of hurt at the wide receiver position?
Some see it that way, including myself. Others choose to list Thomas and Gordon and see no issue. Are you a glass half-full kind of guy?

I don’t think it’s a terribly pressing need at the moment, but I also don’t agree with the WR grouping being set, either. The two unknown players are going to present a challenge in terms of predicting roster moves, that’s for sure.

Are we one injury to Harry from being in a world of hurt at the wide receiver position?

Yes. Constantly ignoring the WR position will really hurt us this season unless Harry is healthy and really really good.

- Burkhead might indeed be traded, but I would guess not until near the end of camp, and only if all 3 of White, Michel & Harris are healthy at that same time.

- I like that you kept Christian Sam, but I might keep Derek Rivers instead of him if it's an either-or situatiion.

- I also like that you kept ObiWon, but remember that Bill signed Terrence Brooks early in the FA season, and that signing included a decent-sized bonus that's usually an indicator of Bill's plans for the man. Perhaps Ebner can "retire" and become assistant STs coach?

Updated WWBD version, to reflect Sony Michel's removal from Active PUP:

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham

Replaced Jakobi Meyers, Dan Skipper & Brandon the King of STs Penalties from the WWBD version with Mister Anderson, Christian Sam & ObiWon. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bill start the season with only 7 OLmen, then sign a vet after week 1.

Nice .... it's starting to look like mine !

I'll take a crack at my initial 53 guess after the first pre-season game.

But clearly...we are gonna be cutting some real good players this year. Maybe there are trades to be made.......

Good point , secondary and linebackers in particular look s tough to call

I think that we overemphasize the end of the roster. We have 9 on the secondary who should get almost all the reps. And, yes, there could be a trade.

CB: Gilmore, McCourty, Jackson, Jones, Williams
S: McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Brooks
=====================
We will carry one or two more. One should get significant reps on special teams. IMHO, it is health that will determine the final choice or two. Personally, If Ebner is ready to go, he'd be my 10th, with the 11th chosen from Obi, Dawson and Crossen.

Good point , secondary and linebackers in particular look s tough to call

I don't see LB's as being tough to call.

For me, barring a trade, the linebackers are all but set
Van Noy, Hightower, Roberts, Collins, Bentley and King

Sam has an outside chance, especially with an injury or trade.
