OT: Zach Wilson benched officially

Dominant? The defenses were dominant in those games. The offenses...meh I wouldn't go that far.

Heard that a lot about Jarrett Stidham too...that all he needed was practice time with the starters. Fans demanded that BB start Stidham to see what he had like he didn't see him every day in practice. BB didn't seem to think Stid was worth starting and that turned out to be the right call. If BB really thought Zappe was a better QB than Mac Jones he would be starting now. No question about it.

Zappe is a backup QB who hasn't earned or proven a thing beyond that. If he struggles this much playing in relief of the starter then why is he in the league?
Stidham was absolutely terrible every second he played in-game. Zappe, in his second start, threw for 300+ yards.

Weird, almost as if Bailey didn’t get to start (and practice and game plan throughout the week knowing he was the starter) those games. Funny how when Zappe actually practiced as the starter throughout the week and knew he was going to start the Patriots offense had their two best offensive performances of the season, really by far. Looked like a completely different (and dominant) team. Now the offense is right back to the same ugly, sloppy crap we’ve been experiencing since the Cam Newton-season.

Just stop with this stuff. Zappe did what he was supposed to do vs. what then were the league's two worst defenses. If you don't believe Mac would've done better (touchdowns instead of field goals against Detroit, for instance), you're snortin' something illegal. If the Patriots felt Zappe gives the team a better chance of winning he would be playing. He'll be able to make a case for himself next training camp.

Surely Mac Jones will carve up the Vikings tonight then, given that the Vikings defense is 4th worst in yards allowed, 10th worst in opposing quarterback rating, and in the bottom half of points allowed.

I think you should direct your preference on the Patriots' starting quarterback to BB. His opinion is the only one that matters. Beyond that, perhaps you could consider rooting for Mac to do well vs. finding reasons to b!tch about him.

Mike White threw for 400+ yards in his second game as a Jet last season and then like with Zappe the clock struck midnight and he went back to being a backup again shortly after that. Cooper Rush too. Guys like that all have a very short shelf life as a starter thats why they're backups.

Just saying Bill watches these guys in practice a lot more than we do on TV. If he really believed Zappe was a better QB than Mac, which he is not, he would be our starter permanently already.

We're having an enjoyable thread about how our division opponent ruined their 1st round draft pick QB they picked #2 overall, can't we just stick to that?

Point taken.

According to this article, Punky's practice habits have been a point of contention since training camp:

And in case anyone is curious what former No. 1 Jete QB pick Damn Darnit things about Punky's benching:

Because he’s still better than last night’s starter…?

Both played at Western Kentucky as seniors. Mike White has an impressive year in 2017, with just over 4,000 yards passing, 26 touchdowns, and a passing completion percentage of nearly 66%.

However, in his senior year in 2021 in a similar spread offense, Bailey Zappe put up _historic_ numbers: nearly 6,000 yards passing, 62 touchdowns (both are NCAA records), and completed nearly 70% of his passes.

If the Jets had any sense they’d trade for Zappe. He’s on another level from the 6’5” Mike White.

Seems that BB disagrees and I haven't seen any evidence that he's wrong about that.

Maybe. I'd love to see what Zappe could get in a trade.
