Simply put....local mediots are part of a fraternal order and Ian is a member. Sometimes the truth is hard to digest....but it is what it is......PeersCan someone please explain to me why Ron Borges still has social media privileges on THIS site.
That's because he's on the "Pummel Into Submission With A Wet Carp On Sight" list.
As I mentioned, it's no more than the fact I put together a list of all the media writers from each newspaper/outlet a couple of years ago when I put that together and haven't updated it since, nor have I kept up consistently on the player roster...which I'll work on today. Otherwise, I do obviously know many of them, but that's only because I've been around since 1997 (when I started a site called "Ian's Patriots Homepage" ) and many have been complimentary of this place over the years, which is obviously appreciated. But I don't exactly talk to/hang out with any of them. The blog on here is just an outlet to post some thoughts each day because I like doing it. But otherwise, I sell appliances for a living here in the "real" world...I'm aware that it hardly qualifies me as a "peer".Simply put....local mediots are part of a fraternal order and Ian is a member. LOL, that doesn't work that way - but that would be amazing All it does is trigger the id for the media/player and then calls for the tweetid out of the database and embeds it in the window. If it's unchecked - it skips any tweets related to that user. I did it the wrong way initially and it slowed the site to a crawl and I had to disable it for a bit, before I eventually figured out a way to re-code it where that didn't happen anymore.Very informative thread on this site's features. If the option exists to self-select which writers show in a feed, Ian already provided a good solution.
If someone chooses to keep Borges on their feed, clicks on his links and that somehow benefits Ian financially even to a small degree, that's all good.
Regards,
Chris

I will point out that when I was originally working on the new board template, I made it a point to include the "Customize" button at the same time - specifically based on requests from people in here - to allow people to add/remove whoever they wanted/didn't want in their feed, which is available to all logged in/registered users. I understand there's probably always going to be someone included in that list that irritates someone here, which is why I took the time to code it out where one click allows them to get rid of who they do/don't want in there. I also took it one step further and included the ability to get rid of that block altogether, which all you need to do is uncheck the "Twitter" box on the upper left menu.
Sorry for irritating anyone with this as that obviously wasn't my intention. I've removed him from the list and I'll start working right now to update the remaining players, media members, etc. I can't stop him or anyone else from appearing in the retweets of someone else who is enabled. So if it shows up, that's the reason.

Peers say the darndest things.Nope not buying it Ian. @borg just let the cat (is Sammy in on this too) out of the bag. You're a part of some secret fraternal order of CONTROL or KAOS.
OH NO!! (in my best Pete Carroll voice) Is @PatsDeb Agent 99?
Obviously @fnordcircle is Mr. Big.
Wow. The resemblance is terrifying.
My God, the stuff people say sometimes. hahaha
Peers say the darndest things.
That's giving carp a bad image.....
That's a lot of pummeling.
That leads to a bigger question.....a fan of WHAT?! It can't be because of his "integrity". It can't be because of his "journalistic ethics". It can't be because he is a convicted plagiarism. So what is it? I KNOW he's a good wordsmith and knows how to turn a phrase. I get that. But do you absolve a rapist just because in another life he's a good lover??? "rolleyes:Simply put....local mediots are part of a fraternal order and Ian is a member. Sometimes the truth is hard to digest....but it is what it is......Peers
BTW - if Ian is such a fan, should he, at least, weigh in on this topic? I'd be interested in hearing his defense of Borges
Wow...did I do something that everyone is mad at me about and I don't know it...?
I said in my last two posts that all I did a couple of years ago is grab all the different writers for each media outlet and add them to a list, along with all the players. Borges was included because he was a columnist/writer for the Herald. I also spent a lot of time developing a way for people to add/remove writers on their own depending on who they did/didn't want to see and that was based off requests on here before I put it together. That feature was a priority when I built the new template, and it had some issues early on before I fixed it. But that was two years+ years ago...it's not a recent thing. Now that he's no longer with the Herald, I removed him from the list and should have done that last week but didn't think of it until it came up last night when this thread started.
I thought people would like having the newsfeed and twitter feed available in case a reporter tweeted something that was breaking news, or if something interesting came across. But I also made it where people could disable it if they wanted to just to make sure. I had no ulterior motive aside from that...?
But I feel like there's a bunch of people angry with me about something and I'm obviously sorry for whatever that is. If anyone wants to vent and let me know what I've screwed up or I'm doing wrong that has quite a few upset, hopefully you guys know that you can PM me if you need to ... ?
More curious than angry, Ian. I really like the twitter section and think its a fine addition to the site, even with those guys I might disagree with. But Borges is the exception.Wow...did I do something that everyone is mad at me about and I don't know it...?
