None of us are as stupid as all of us. Combine a beer, stupid people, and the general weird/tribal atmosphere of a football game, and sometimes incredibly senseless things happen.
The way each of us act is 100% up to each person. It's always and without exception a personal choice.

Let's not use the crowd as an excuse for this barbarian.

Pretty ballsy of you to go to San Diego. I went to a Pats game there years ago and could not believe how unsafe that stadium was. Gangs of Mexican punks roamed the concourses picking fights with visiting fans. I saw one Patriots fan with blood streaming down his face. I almost didn't get into the men's restroom because Chargers fans kept cutting in front of me. Stadium security there was non-existent. A woman I sat next to said, "Good luck making it out of here alive." Unbelievable in that dump.
OH I agree with you tuna, its a pretty dangerious place for a Pats fan. Used to be a non family place for us to, but we were just what they used to call a "clown team". So they threw beer or said things but didnt get violent alot.

For a Pats fan, I would think to be in a pack and a hotel close by.
But sence Brees they dont mind us anymore. Most Charger fans are underground Brees fans and wish he never left, so wearing the 9 jersey will get you a long way in that stadium. They loved Brees so as long as your willing to listen to the Rivers history, then how much they love Brees and wish he never left, your fine.
You as a AFC rival, successful champions, and wearing #12, with all illegals, as you mentioned, and they have some gangs there, it can be dangerous. The stadium has some dark places, dumpy, and they do hang out outside the bathrooms and in the parking lot.
I do not usually go to stadiums like the chargers unless Im front row. Its a good thing to pass on to other Pats fans as you said, and dont bring family there. Buy high profile seats , come late, and leave early or very late, or have a cab waiting lol.
We usually sit in the front row in these places so cops can see something happening. dear lord I still hate the new Nike uniforms

I really dont recall going to a game with a intoxicated person near me, interfered with my enjoyment, not saying i have not seen people stupidly drunk at a game and im sure those have drank more than 12 in a four hour session
You are lucky then. Nothing sucks more than having an obnoxious out-of-control drunk near you. I've seen neighbors of irresponsible drunks (sometimes myself) puked on, fallen on, stepped on, full-beer-spilled on, punched, verbally abused...You get the idea. I've seen drunks sideswipe or bump into other cars in the parking lots. I've moved my seats in the stadium because of habitual drunks. Limiting alcohol would be great, but as I said in my first response here, it will probably never happen. Too many people (including the Krafts/Patriots) making too much money on it.

Despite all this I love going to the games. I just hope every time one of these A-holes doesn't injure me or my kids.

Look, I get the "freedom to have access to alcohol as an adult" argument. I just don't get why it's so freaking important for some people -- too many people -- to get drunk or drink heavily at football games. It almost always leads to obnoxious behavior interfering with others' enjoyment (mine). Besides, there is no way you can follow what's happening on the field while soused, and then you have to get up every 20 minutes for a bathroom break. They need to find some way to limit alcohol consumption, like no more than three or four beers per individual.

Three or four per quarter is a fair proposal. I'm for that.

Would you allow roll over beers?

Save em up for the second half?

Seriously though three or four beers should be plenty. Not sure why the right to get ****faced at a football game would be argued.

I've seen the Patriots in about 8 visiting stadiums over the years and some multiple times (San Diego). When I was younger and more vain, I would feel it was my right to wear my Pats gear to these games and for the most part I was reserved but I would still take some verbal abuse and at the end of the game, I wouldn't be too loud so as not to draw attention. Occasionally that didn't matter and some guy wanted to get into it. When I ignored him and his buddies, they persisted and we went at it and it got ugly. At the time I thought I was in my rights and was simply defending myself. I look back now with shame over getting physical with someone over a football game and realize that wearing a Patriots jersey is going to rile people up and the best thing is not to wear it and enjoy the game and lay low. It really is a small percentage that want to fight but mix alcohol with a game's emotion and evolution is turned back. Its sad and not worth fighting over and either hurting yourself or someone else.

There's one class act. The anti-Cromartie, anti-Talib, anti-TJ Ward.

I went to the SD post season game that got Marty Schottenhiemer fired. The Chargers were 14 - 2 that season and the Pats won the game on a missed FG by Kaeding IIRC. That was the "lights out" game.

Anyway, I always don NE gear at every road game. Towards the end of this game, I went to the restroom prior to the Kaeding FG and some stadium employees were giving me gang signs and taunting me how the game was over for the Pats. Then the shank.

I never saw a stadium clear out so fast in my life.

2002 season was in SD with old Patriots Mailing List for a loss as LT ran over us and Brady threw 2 stupid picks. Took more crap in game from Pats fan Bledsoe Krishnas pissed at me for being a well known Brady's Lady. Got chased out of the men's room by SD punks POed at me for congratulating them for a W after decades of losing to us. I was a wise ass but very fast back then

The best thing someone can possibly do if a punk gets in his face at a visiting stadium nowadays is do what your dad may have taught you: swing first and ask questions later. It's 2016 and people lack empathy. I've seen some guys try to talk their way out of fights, think they were successful, turn, and get blind sided. I keep my mouth shut and keep to myself at these types of events but that doesn't mean that I haven't been confronted before. Break the nose, get their eyes watering and get them back peddling, then hit them with a two piece in the chin. If they look like they're going to get back up quickly and you didn't see police nearby, hit them a few more times until they're down for the count. I'm dead serious. Don't expect to get in a situation like that and expect people to help you. All they will do is pull our their cell phones and hit record. Don't expect the 60 year old security guard to do much either. They're getting paid near minimum wage. Help yourself.
