OT- What will Goodell do? Colin Kaepernick sits during national anthem

In this country (for now) your are free, and yes even free to be an asshat, Kaepernick has chosen to be one.

Actually it's a brilliant move on his part because when SF releases him, he can claim it's because of this and not his sucky play.

I think this is what it is all about and the frosting on the cake is that it will be Chip Kelly who was unfairly trashed as a racist last year.

The NFL also has the right to do something. Freedom of speech is that the government can't restrict it. The NFL can absolutely do what they want for a player representing the 49rs and the NFL says on the job.
I just mean from a general perspective.

To me, there's a big difference between having issues with what goes on in this country, and completely spitting in the face of it. Doing what Colin did solves no problems.

Hell, there's things about this nations politics that flat out make me sick. But I'm not going to go near that extent.

Stuff like what Colin just did only leads to further splitting two sides apart, rather than bringing them together. I'm not saying he's wrong for feeling the way he feels, he's just helping jack **** by doing what he did.

Of course he has the freedom to express himself, but that doesn't mean I don't have the freedom to express myself by calling him out.

The mere fact that millions of people in this country do not feel that they should stand for the NA or PoA sickens me.

Get the hell out of the country. Now.

My family amd millions of others didn't go to Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, France and sit on a boat in the Pacific fighting for that scum to throw a football for a living.
Actually, that's part of the freedoms that you and those in the military do/did fight for. You and I don't have to like what Kap did but he's free to do so and then free to feel the repercussions of his action.

He needs to get the hell out of the country.

Well, since he's obviously put a lot of thought into this, I for one look forward to hearing Kaepernick's insights into the steps we should take to stop oppressing black people and people of color.

I'm really looking forward to learning!

Since this was quickly posted, and in direct response to my post, I'll respond to it:

I agree with everything you said except I'm wholly against burning the flag. Too much blood has been shed carrying that flag to allow it to be burned by scumbags.

It's a piece of cloth that gets burned all the time. Burning is, in fact, the recommended manner of disposal:

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

USFlag.org: A website dedicated to the Flag of the United States of America - United States Code

So you're really just arguing about the trappings of a protest. And, for me, that falls under "It's not my property. If someone wants to destroy their own property, that's on them."

I've never understood why there was talk for that to be illegal. It's inconsistent with freedom of speech. If you want to show everyone you're a POS by doing it then go right ahead I say.

My problem is in old battles it was a duty to never let the flag hit the ground. If anything is sacred it's that. To me it's an affront to anyone who has served and especially to those who never came back. Certain things are above free speech. A precious few. Burning the flag in protest is one of them. The SC messed up on that one.

I agree with the sentiment but nothing is a more powerful representation of free speech than the burning of the flag. So should not be illegal.

With that aside I think those that do are ignorant pieces of crap.

I hope this escalates into another mountain out of a molehill. Goodell is stupid enough to get trolled into another ethical confrontation that challenges his authority. He will inevitably botch the whole thing and bring embarrassment to himself and to the league.

I'd love to see that too but, as much as I hate to admit it, I think the league did the wise thing. They gave a generic statement that they would like to see the players stand but can't force them to, so there will be no punishment. As much as Kaepernick disgusts me, I feel the NFL acted wisely because that makes Kaepernick look bad while toning the whole thing down, instead of escalating it with some sort of disciplinary process.

That is a lame argument. There are clearly different contexts between respectfully burning an American flag in a proper ceremony as a means of disposal versus burning it in protest.

What will Goodall do? Probably what the owners and the DOD tell's him to do. He will talk about freedom of speech AND respecting those that served and died. And nothing will happen to Kaepernick.....

Wow the only un American views being spouted are the ones that say Kaperdick needs to leave the country for exercising his God given rights to be a **** if he so chooses. Who gives a **** what he does: stand, kneal, sit, pick your nose! What a bunch of whiney little *****es on this forum.

NFL does not require players to stand for national anthem. Wonder how BB would react?

Winey ***** huh?

It's posters like you that cannot fathom what the word respect means.

I bet you are a millennial and more concerned about how many Pokemon points you get and the size of your welfare check.

Taking a stand on an issue is my right. That is not being winey. It's having respect.

He should leave the country and take you with him.
