I see others acknowledge how bad Tirico is as a play by play caller. He gets way too animated calling a QB “Superman”, “putting on his cape”? and other nicknames. Collinsworth always takes one player each game and says “he’s the best in the NFL”.

The way Torico handled the ending of that Jets-Titans game on MNF is something he’d probably like to forget. Very unprofessional.

Football play by play has gone way downhill in the last 20 years and continues to get worse. It doesn’t get any better having Pat Summerall and John Madden calling the biggest games.

Are announcers being trained differently or have they just sunk to the current level naturally?

I have to do a little research on Tirico. Okay, it looks like he grew up only knowing his white Italian mother and never knew his father. That made him believe that he was Italian and not black. What's funny is that if you look at him he could be either. What he isn't though is a good announcer.

I lost track of the amount of times that Chris Collinsworth spoke over great plays being made. He's the single biggest reason that I started watching games with the sound down. And, lo and behold, I enjoyed it immensely.

And Jim Nance is horrible unlike any other. He's another guy who I enjoy not hearing.

You're going to be furthermore shocked that he leads a fairly mundane, normal life at home. All the crap that comes out of his mouth is strictly for ratings.

I can believe it. One of the articles I read says his dad was the kind of person who screamed abuse at his TV during games. His first job was with the Herald, a tabloid in competition with the Globe. The Herald did what tabloids do, competed by finding dirt on people and using a strong negative outlook to draw in the fellowship of the miserable, while the Globe appealed to the hoity-toity and the aspirational. You can say Felger had the ideal training for sports talk radio. Yet, you can also see how it isn't that hard to just turn that stuff off when he's not working. I had lots of friend's dads who screamed at the TV during games but had polite dinner time conversations.

Actually they've had that business for a while. Diego worked there before trying out for the Patriots and now he's returning because he can't stand to leave his brothers behind.

Who knows. There just aren't any iconic voices this sport desperately needs. Buck and Aikman were at one point a B or C team at best with Collinsworth on Fox. They’re now the premiere team in football. That’s how you know the quality has dropped.

And Jim Nance is horrible unlike any other. He's another guy who I enjoy not hearing.

The worst thing CBS did was taking him out of the studio and making a golf announcer an NFL play by play guy. There was no reason to swap out Greg Gumbel for him. He’s made a lot of strides since then, but he was boring for quite some time.
