OT: Thuney graded top G pass blocking efficiency 2016 (94.1 PFF)

The ratings don't get much higher than that. No wonder he started every game. I do wonder what his run blocking grade was, however. I'll see if I (or someone here maybe) can find it and post.

Edit: Yikes, his overall rating was 68.3. If Pass is 60% of the grade then that equates to an approx 55-65 run blocking grade. Not nearly so good. Some work to do there.

Yeahh, I think your stat isn't telling the whole story either. There's no way Beadles, Good, and Ifedi are among the top pass blocking guards in the league.

He're the full list of all teams. For those dummies that still think PFF isn't a credible stat rating, especially for OL men, just take a look at DAL and some of the other best and worst names and teams on this list.

For many positions, e.g. QB, I wouldn't use PFF as TP for my bunghole, but OL is one position I think their methodology is very accurate. You either stop your guy or open a hole for yardage, or you don't, and give up a pressure, a sack or a stop for a no gain. If you double team someone, it's a half value (of the outcome) each. Not much simpler than that. Maybe a few miscommunication sacks go to the wrong player, but over a full season, those will even out.

PFF isn't credible. That's been shown time and again. Only dummies (your word) are still fool enough to buy into PFF.

And the fact that they had Thuney as the #1 pass protecting guard should have clued you in to a problem.

Personally I prefer Pro Football Outsiders. I know how they are grading each position and what they include to determine ranking.

Secondly it's tough to determine the overall value of an offensive line. How many sacks or pressures are due to QB miscommunication or poor pre snap reads?

I would guess Thuney also had more penalties called against him then anyone else on the OL. I remember a couple of costly holding penalties. Nothing lethal though.

No, this isn't good enough either. The board experts have spoken. Thuney, and the entire Pats Superbowl winning OL just aren't very good. Well at least now we know.
