OT: Sidy Sow Looking for a new home

Did that scrub see any live action last year?? I must have missed it.
given the state of OL play around the league, I assume Sidy will find a summer home, and maybe extend into the fall.
that said, I do believe there is a need for vet depth on the interior here.
maybe there is an invite for someone like Sidy on a look see deal. nothing guaranteed

Someone will pay a $50K bonus for some camp competition with their versions of Wallace and Rupcich.

The Patriots have a couple holes, and fortunately they are at positions that demand about the least unicorn athleticism - guard, inside/off-ball linebacker, blocking tight end.
They may well need to review the August roster cuts for a couple of these roles.
Sidy probably isn't one of the candidates.

Jeeze... His last draft included Christian Gonzalez, Pop Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Brice Berringer who are all still on the team.

Barringer sucks. Yet another special olympics teamer on whom a draft pick should never have been used. I was hoping the Australian dude would've been signed after rookie mini-camp...

Yep. Cavedin Wallace is Trash. A full two-round overdraft. The only reason he's still here, besides general incompetence, is that Vrabel didn't want to make Eliot The **** look like a Complete ****ing idiot.

the Pats OL philosophy today is more athleticism, which Sidy brings.
the teams top 2 options are Brown, whose best position is OC, and Wallace, who scored an 8.23 RAS score, which is mush lower than SIdy scored. With Onwenu most likely in his last year, having an IOL that is athletic, experienced and cheap is not a bad gamble.

SIdy when here was not terrible. his rookie season, he had a no show OL coach in Klemm. SIdy still started 13 games. saw 73% of the RG snaps, and made the PFF rookie team with a score of 65. he was much more proficient in run blocking then pass pro at that time

year 2 the Pats changed schemes, and Sidy did not fit Peters OL philosophy. he injured, and fell to 15% of the teams offensive snaps.

I am not advocating for SIdy. I am for a vet IOL. maybe that is Sidy

Sow was ok his rookie year as was Robinson (forget which one). And Mafi showed some hope as well.

Second year offensive lineman blues.

They do need more depth at guard. Maybe they can pull a player out for Boutte.

Sidy had a RAS score of 9.93 out of 10
This score ranked as the 10th-highest out of over 1,300 offensive guards evaluated from 1987 to 2023.

Which goes to show... athleticism doesn't always translate to ability to perform.

This isn't Madden. Being the fastest or the strongest won't get you anywhere without the mental side of the game.

Need I remind you of #12? Dude was an unathletic marvel There have been way too many guys who have ended up as All Pro, Pro Bowler, Hall of Fame types who were overlooked because of their lack of athleticism for me to put too much stock.

Does all that stuff help? Sure. But in the NFL, everybody was once the fastest, strongest, most special ever. That's not what distinguishes a good player at this level. Being a 'man among boys' only gets you so far in the pros.

Yeah, he was so awesome he got cut by two different teams in less than a year.

This Sidy Sow cult is absolutely baffling.
I don't see a cult
what I do see is a player drafted on day 3, in his rookie season, with poor coaching, showed some nice potential playing quite a bit as a rookie. yet he injured and regressed, when most progress year 2.
would be nice to check into why, other than you don't like him

The 2 round overdraft is the usual 100% hindsight nonsense. Would the situation be different if Wallace were draft in the 5th round? No, of course not. We would be happy to have drafted a decent backup. The issue now is that Wallace has been a waste.

ignore the potshots at Bill, if you can... some have the high school drama mind set - can't let things go... the hate runs deep here

Sidy Sows arm length is 33⅝ ... new Left Tackle anyone?

eh, want to bring him in as a camp body? i'm fine with that... 4th stringers/scout team needs a line too... but he's basically a "break glass in case of emergency" spot starter... he will wind up on someones practice squad, don't really care if its ours or someone elses...
