OT: Rex Ryan foot fetish? (merged many times)

The NFL was able to conclude Ben raped a woman but in 70+ days they couldn't conclude that Brett Favre sent pictures of his penis to Sterger? A high school principle and one local cop could of finished that case in a few days.
The issue with Favre isn't whether or not he sent the picture. We all know he did. With Favre, the issue is to what extent Sterger allowed (or even solicited) the text/pics.

I read a history about the Japanese invasion of China in the 1930s, and there was an elaborate ritual for Japanese officers and young soldiers. You'd have the officers lay out the best teatime dishes and china, little dainty silver spoons, and then a Geisha would come in and daintily squat over a cup in the middle. Then they'd all partake. The officers would describe the various aromas and foods, and the young officers would wretch.

The whole point, of course, was that if you could aestheticize this and make it into a high-culture ritual, you were certainly capable of conducting yourself in many other contexts without losing your lunch. And that's a good ritual with which to kick off the Rape of Nanking. Not that this is what it's about with Rex and others, butt here's a long history of this stuff.

I haven't seen these videos but know the type I think, in which case it's 2 consenting, married adults getting their legal freak on. So be it.

It's an embarrassment to the team and to Rex.

And bear in mind I can't stand the guy, or the Jets, but I don't see why the League should get involved at all.
Personally I doubt the league will get involved, but they certainly have the right to. If any employee publicly embarrasses the league, they have every right to act. I believe coaches and executives are held to a higher standard than players. Since Rex couldn't keep his little peccadillos private and had to post them to the internet for all to see, it certainly could be an embarrassment to the franchise or the league.

I guess it is the Jets warrior culture. I wonder what more Spartan ideals will emerge at the Meadowlands locker room

They need to stop showing this video on TV. I have the opposite of a foot fetish. I'm disgusted by them.

I have to disagree on this one. You are an employee at will at most places. I've personally been forced to fire an employee with a public job for an embarassing situation that was *not illegal* because it reflected badly on the company. I also work for one of the most liberal of the Fortune 50 companies.
I believe it, I'd expect termination more often than not for someone who embarrasses their boss or their company, and doubly so for a senior manager. I'm just not seeing this as terribly embarrassing to the Jets organization. Yeah, it's weird, but something like this blows over very quickly because there's no real substance, nothing to be angry about. It would be worse if he had been the one that posted it on youtube, that would show poor judgement, but it seems to have been posted by his wife. For all we know (really, all we should care to know), he may have recorded it with the intention of it staying private. And given that possibility and the fact that most people in almost-2011 don't think someone should be fired for their private sex life (as long as only consenting adults are involved), I don't see any reason to care unless you just want to hammer him because he's the Jets' coach. You'd think the way the Patriots have been treated in the media the last few years would make Patriots fans think twice of taking the low road themselves, but yet here we are.

This is reckless behavior by Rex and his wife. Eventually this will turn into a firestorm when the swapper aspects become public on the MSM.

I feel sorry for the kids, depending on their age this could be very damaging to them.

If all of this becomes public his career will be destroyed.

If (IF!) they've been involved in swinging (swapping), you can bet that there is at least one "participant" out there who is calling the Enquirer or NY Post and trying to cut a deal for a few bucks to tell (and embellish) their story.

If this were a private individual who was being "outed" by enemies at work, I'd feel sorry for him. But, Ryan has spent his career working in visible jobs for high profile organizations, currently in the media capital of the world. This just shows either massively bad judgment or an almost whimsical "I don't give a ****" attitude on Rex' part.

If this does blow up, I think it will be hard for Rex to hold his job in the "family friendly" NFL.

While, as someone pointed out, the Favre issue does have some complications, it's sadly obvious to me that the league is intentionally dragging its feet on this until Favre retires.

Unless other videos come out, nobody will be talking about this come Monday. It's a weird story, Napoleon Dynamite-ish weird, and the media loves it and is putting it through the cycle, but it has no legs (I swear, no pun intended). Most disinterested people (non-Patriots, non-Jets, and non-Dolphins fans) will be amused by this, not angry and looking for it cost him his job.

That's the issue right there. If the story gets forgotten, he's safe. Should it have legs, like more sordid revelations with folks coming forward describing the indescribable, or clowns like St Dungy going on a crusade that interests the media (not that I think he will) then The Hut is in some danger. Should it fade in the non-Pats media, then he's safe.

There's a BIG difference between actually witnessing an employee steal money from you and concluding that a man raped a woman based on second hand evidence.
In both cases, the allegations have to be proven to the satisfaction of the employer. So yeah, the evidence is stronger in my illustration, but either set of circumstances leads to the employer conducting a review (according to whatever internal process they have) and then possibly taking action based on their (and their alone!) conclusions. Unless I can show that the employer is actually disciplining me for being a member of a protected class (federally that's race, color, religion, national origin, age if over 40, or disabilities), in which case I could sue, I have to accept their decision.

There's one other angle to this, that I think even you will have to accept, and that's that Goodell is exercising authority that exists under a collective bargaining agreement. While I have to admit that I haven't read the CBA, surely you're not suggesting that the CBA disallows the commissioner from punishing a player absent a criminal conviction but that the commissioner does it anyway! The union would have to sue because of the precedent. They would not be able to keep it quiet for the sake of PR, there are union attorneys who would risk disbarment for not protecting their clients.

Yup, that's what it'll come down to. But after the shock's worn off, if people still want blood for something like this - something icky but also completely harmless - then shame on us.

That was my point. If someone comes along and dishes on the details of an "encounter" with the Ryans and is reasonably credible, then I think he's in trouble. If not, like you, I believe the story will die.

In the case that someone comes forward with tales, I think it becomes a close call for the NFL.

Coaches and players have sometimes messy personal lives and the NFL wisely stays out of those matters. But, this is a matter of going on the internet and soliciting men to gang-bang his wife in "all three of her holes." I'm glad my kids are too young to have noticed or understand stuff like that. If they weren't, I might feel differently about the whole (no pun intended) matter.

People are going to continue to bring this up. Rex is a big target. There will be mentions in dozens of articles as asides. Fans will bring it up. People won't get it out of their minds. And his players are going to think there's a possibility the coach will let them sleep with his wife.

Who is the victim when a couple both decide they want group sex?

When someone cheats, the person being cheated on is the victim. There is no victim here.

It's not a matter of anyone being victimized. It's a matter of personal stability, and this IS unstable behavior. It is reckless and impulsive behavior. I doubt people into the swinging lifestyle with their spouse are truly happily married or truly happy with themselves. Human beings just aren't built that way emotionally or spiritually. This actually helps connect some dots in the patterns of Wrecks' behavior -- the loudmouth boasting, the defensiveness, the crying in front of his team (now on more than one occasion), flipping off a crowd in public, overweight/overeating, the lack of discipline, etc., etc. Jabba Wrecks is not a healthy individual. I wouldn't want someone with such serious character/personal issues coaching my team.

Nothing is going to happen nor should it. Who is that guy on the Jets with so many kids by so many woman he can’t even name them. No laws broken, just a real lack of judgment. This lack of judgment has rubbed off though out the entire organization. Something else will come up after this.

You just can't say that. I mean, why generalize if you don't know? For the longtime I've argued the opposite, that monogamy is against a man's instinctual nature, and if you believe Freud, the instincts of man reside in the unconscious. You might be right about spirituality, but as long as human beings have an unconscious, I'm not going to buy the argument about emotions that you're making.

There have been so many different societies throughout time that have answered these questions differently, societies that are a lot more harmonious than those in the Western world with their superhigh divorce rates for married monogamist couples. Ever see the movie Keep the River on Your Right?

This is the book it's based on: http://www.amazon.com/Keep-River-Ri...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1293151780&sr=1-1

People can apparently adapt to all sorts of sexual mores.

Or look up the Kalash tribe. They have a few truly stunning rituals for boys entering into manhood.

For your enjoyment...this is about to go mainstream.

I have some perspective. I've "dabbled" and know others who have. It's just not healthy.

That's great ... having your wife's hoo-hoo for all to see ...

hope he's really proud of himself ... I mean what a man's man he is. :bricks:

If that's a man in his eyes I'd rather be a wimp.
