OT: Rams give Stafford 1-yr, $55M extension

Reining MVP well deserved.

Rams could not stop JSN which is why they signed McDuffie.

Stafford faced the same defense that took apart Maye. His stats 375 pass yds - 3 TDs - 0 INTs - 1 Fumble - 1 sack - 127 QBR

Rams should be a top contending team for 2026, but the window is closing. McDuffie was at least a step in the right direction to maximize what is left with Stafford.

2 things:

- That’s a division rival. Stafford, McVay, OC etc are very familiar with Seattle’s scheme/personnel, given that it was the third time they played each other last year.

-Also, Stat Paddford is playing with a good OL/RB & 2 All-Pro receivers. Our OL was pretty inconsistent throughout the playoffs & it’s night and day comparing our receivers to that of the Rams. It was Maye’s first time seeing that McDonald defense & he was playing with an injured shoulder/upperbody that he allegedly sustained in Denver. Yes, Maye needs to be better in certain facets of his game, but let’s act like Stat Paddford’s weapons aren’t superior to Maye’s.

If I'm reading it right he got a $5 million signing bonus - but the remaining $50 isn't guaranteed until the start of the roster year

That is if age or injury raise their heads on the 38 year old Stafford, the Rams can walk away from the 38 year old QB

That's not a shock as both Stafford and the Team have been year to year on each other for awhile at that age - had they won it this year he might have hung up the cleats.

Which is always possible next season too - though he's now got a HUGE incentive to come back.

But the unfortunate reality is that injuries happen and in return for agreeing to forgo free agency next year, he really only got a $5 million signing bonus/insurance policy if he suffers a season or career ending injury this season.

I'm sure he likes the bragging right of $55-$60 million for a year, but who knows if he'll ever see it. The Rams didn't draft a QB in the first round for nothing. And just to put that into perspective, Ty Simpson has more guaranteed money for 2027 than Stafford currently does.

As far as Simpson, he's getting paid what he's getting paid for the next 4 seasons so from a Rams perspective, it sure doesn't hurt him to learn from Stafford for a full two seasons. Rookie season can spin any player's head and from a developmental standpoint I think 2 years of development is ideal (especially if the QB is young, rather than the latest crop of 25 year old seniors getting drafted.)

But the lack of any serious guaranteed money is surprising

The exact same applies to Seattle playing LAR for a 3rd time who is a Division rival and team that theyre very familiar with.

Still, Stafford was able to keep LAR in the hunt, but every time that LAR came back the Rams defense could not keep Seattle from scoring.

he signed an extension
in theory, he has a 2 year $105m contract.
the 2026 season is fully guaranteed (plus incentives)

How many corners can stop JSN?? Not everyone has a Gonzalez. In fact, he’s 1 of 1. Also, what does the way Stafford performed vs a division rival have to do with the way Maye performed given the circumstances provided in the previous post?

He couldn't get past Seattle, was totally exposed, is too old, and will never make it.

Wait a second. Stafford was the MVP last season. He took the worst team in football, with no weapons to the 5th seed in the NFC last season. And only 13 of his touchdown passes came from the 1 yard line. Sure, they didn't make the Super Bowl, but the team that loses that sucks anyways, so that doesn't matter. Just ask the geniuses at Patsfans.com, even they know that.

Triumph is a Chiefs fan, everyone knows that. He only posts here to take ****s on the team.

Absolutely. Getting a team with that little talent to the 5th seed in the NFC is totally MVP worthy. It's not like he got a team that was the worst in football to the Super Bowl, that guy sucked.

And I watched every one of Staffords 13 touchdown passes from the 1 yard line. They were awesome. No quarterback can do that, just ask Russell Wilson.

Ahh, I see. I wasn’t aware.

You should read his posts from the Brady years, when they were the worst team in football. Only an outsider who roots for another team could have the clarity of mind to see that they were one of the worst team's in football. But Triumph, FCB( a Jets fan), and guys who coach 1st grade field hockey, like the Captain could see through them to their true suckitude.

( my apology, I forgot Sam, who lost all four limbs making a protein shake one beautiful morning, and as such rightfully deserves to be bitter about every aspect of life every remaining second of it. Blenders are dangerous tools in the possession of idiots . Sam is actually a Patriots fan, but only of the glory years, when Tony Eason was a quarterback God, everything since they beat the Bears in the Super Bowl has totally sucked. )

I agree with you. But I want to make one point. The seahawks defense was made to look better than they already were simply by our porous offensive performance that game.. as Stafford who's a statue QB did carve them up..If there's a game guys are up for this season it's week 1 for sure!! Everyone likes to talk about our schedule last season how seahawks played all division opponents in the postseason and faced a 9ners team missing 9 starters..

I think he’ll retire after the 2027 season. Two more seasons

I'm pretty sure his 2026 season salary etc was already guaranteed before now - usually a few days after the start of the 2026 League Year in March.

I hope the guy stays healthy and gets paid next year, but he basically just agreed to give up free agency in return for a $5 million bonus. Now I do realize how old he is but just seems to me that something's off when the rookie backup has more guaranteed 2027 money than he does.
