OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Brady said ''When i suck, i'll retire.'' in 2014.

He probably came to the realization that it's not actually going to happen anytime soon, and considering his unbeatable legacy, what's there to play for?

He had a ton of motivation last year, cementing his GOAT status, winning a SB with another team, etc... I think losing Godwin, then the Brown fiasco made him say to himself ''I'm too old for this nonsense.''

I'd rather he retire now, with his last season being at an MVP-level, rather than overstay his welcome and play for the hell of it. It's kind of incredible to retire at 44 because you've had enough, still easily being a top 3 QB in the league. It's ridiculous.

Nah I’d rather he play until he’s 50 even if it means his last game is like Marino’s.

He played better this year than last year actually. I don't think it's fear of sucking. Clearly he has to feel hes not going to suck anytime soon. This is for his family.
I might be projecting but i didn't see the fire he had last year or the previous 20.

I don't think he has any motivation left. The only thing he had to prove to the naysayers, that he can be successful without Bill, he did in the most remarkable way imaginable. We all know how Brady would find even the smallest slight as a motivation but he has come to a point where everyone has accepted him as the undisputed GOAT, he has literally every important QB record, most of those untouchable forever, that only something like going to the Lions and winning the SB would be a worthy goal.

He could have won this years SB and it wouldn't have enhanced his legacy one bit, that's how ridiculously big the chasm between him and everyone else is. How many athletes can say that their legacy is so carved in stone another title doesn't do anything? It's crazy.

Watching and rooting for Tom Brady for 20+ years has been one of life's great pleasures. I would watch Tom play at 60 for the Lions.

But when that retirement announcement came, i was completely at peace with that decision. Tom Brady has provided enough incredible moments and memories for 20 lifetimes. If that's it, nothing but incredible gratefulness.

He’s Still saying the party line over retirement or not word for word like he did before the season ended. Seems absolutely incensed by the words he’s choosing that this got out.

He could have avoided all of this by not giving the answers he did when asked about it earlier. "I'll be back", or "I'm taking a long vacation with the family and we'll talk about it then" would have avoided all of this nonsense.

Lol...these are the new norm, by the way. The Chiefs forum is littered with them. Goes something like:

"Brady went 10 years without winning a Super Bowl!!"

"Brady has played lots of bad games!"

Or the tweet below.

Misses the entire point: golden opportunities squandered. Rookie salary, two all-pro offensive weapons in their prime, great offensive line, weak competition. Complete and utter choke job at home against a team served up on a silver platter.

I believe its something like.

How will Pat Mahomes sleep at night after the AFCCG...

On top of a giant pile of money surrounded by many beautiful* women.

*though from what I heard about his gf

I don't think he's retiring for some reason. Why would he tell Bucs management that he isn't EVEN CLOSE to making a decision? Either the sources from last week are good and Brady lied to TB or the sources are garbage and they were simply trying to be first to 'break the news'. After watching this weekend you gotta believe he wants to come back. The incompetence in coaching in play is so high in the NFL that it passes off as brilliancy at times but he knows as well as anyone that with the right pieces and better luck with injuries they can win again next year.
I too still think it's possible but Tampa will have to make an amazing sales pitch to both Brady and Giselle.

To me, it's just common sense that Brady would leave the door open a crack just because of how good he played.

Last season, he was a top 5 QB and the season was top 5 in his career.

This year he was the top QB or 2nd best if you're a Rodgers ballwasher. The season was top 3 in his career.

I have a hard time believing he will walk away 1 season short of 45 and at an MVP level, without even reconsidering it.

If Brady retires, it's crazy to think that it means BB and him were only squabbling for 1 extra year. Brady wanted 2 years guaranteed and BB was only willing to go a year at a time.

It's official.

Thank you Tom for 21 amazing years.

No mention of the Pats.
I think there's a plan regarding the Patriots I could be wrong, but if this is it at least now I can understand the Mac10s of the world cause it will be a shot at the Patriots

Kraft will sell him a part of the team and his first move will be to fire Bill lol

Belichick will finish his career winless against Brady

Shannon Sharpe just did a 180 on Brady haha I guess people were always right it was scripted. Sharpe sounds like the biggest Brady fan

If there is nothing else then I think it is pretty certain that Brady was deeply wounded by what happened at the end here which is really tragic.

Just watched the last 3 drives of SB49 and damn he moved so well in the pocket. JE, Gronk and Brady. It was fun while it lasted. Enjoy retirement you've earned it.

All the best to him and his family but I'm sad about his retirement.

It would have been easier if he wasn't playing at an MVP level. It is ironic and fitting that he's going into retirement being slighted again with the MVP likely going to Rodgers.
