OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

It's hard to predict what the Bucs will do.

Most of the time, they have more talent than the other team and they have the attitude of "we do what we do and we will just beat you with our talent."

Even now after all the injuries, I think they still have similar overall talent to the Rams and can still win by doing what they do ie. Bowles blitzing over and over.

It's very different watching this team from watching the playoffs with the Patriots, where the talent level was usually similar and at times glaringly inferior to the opponent. But Patriots were so good with situational football and at being efficient that they still won against more talented teams.
It's a fun style to watch but it can be very frustrating when they over commit and get shredded. Then again the days of bend and don't break in NE were extremely frustrating to watch. I think they still need to be who they are and be aggressive but they can't be predictable. Stopping the run is key and then maybe mix in some stunts on 1st and 2nd down when you can and drop out sometimes on 3rd down. 3rd and shorts will be the interesting ones. I don't think either team wants to be in 3rd and longs which I know is stating the obvious.

The last 4 playoff games by the Bucs - Saints, GB, KC and Philly this year were IMO highly coached games with fantastic situational football played on both sides. What haven't you seen in the post-season to make you question this?

Don't think the offensive coaching was great for the GB game but Brady and his targets just made some big plays in tough situations (third and longs), esp in the first half. Similarly, not great against NO either but Brady played a clean game and defense gave them short fields. The KC game was very well coached and a deviation from usual offensive gameplan.

The offensive strategy has been more sophisticated this year as Brady's input has been more fully incorporated. I do trust they will adjust their approach, although I worry they will lean on the running game too much on first down which sets them up for lots of third and longs - the exact situation they need to avoid. It's not that they run too much, they run at the wrong times. Pass more on first down and run more on 2nd and 3rd and short. They tend to run a lot on first and 10 and go empty on third and short.

Bowles however absolutely adjusted his game plans intelligently throughout the playoffs last year. I trust his opponent-specific game planning a lot more than Leftwich/Arians in the playoffs.

It's more of a regular season observation.

For playoffs I agree with you for the KC and Philly game. I don't remember the Saints game too well anymore other that Brees arm was cooked and the Bucs needed several timely turnovers.

But have to disagree in the GB game. The offense got overconfident in the 2nd half and was still slinging it down the field when it wasn't needed. Don't remember how the D played in the 2nd half.

In terms of coaching what the offense has been able to do since the Saints game with Godwin, Brown and Lenny out is obviously fantastic play by Brady but great coaching to still score 30 ppg. I love Brady more than anyone but they have hardly missed a beat at least on the scoreboard and the Tampa coaching deserve some credit

Tom Brady on the #Rams coverage philosophy, which technically doesn't feature a lot of man: "These guys lock on to you pretty good at times too. They may call it zone, but a lot of times it plays like man, and certain route concepts are guarded like man."

So if you're Mcvay do you:

1. Stick with what you have been doing
2. Try something different because once TB has you figured out you're toast

I hope my DL can get home, early and often. Speeding up TB, when he's dealing with a bunch of backup WRs, is the likeliest avenue to success.

They have a short week so I don't think they will change much of the coverage. I'm sure they'll have wrinkles but as mentioned above this is going to be about the DL vs Brady and the Oline. First down is going to be HUGE this game.

It’s disgusting to me how more and more Pats fans seem to be rooting against Brady now. Last year it seemed there was a lot more support because the Pats just sucked the whole year but now they feel so defensive over the Patriots embarrassing failure that they now NEED Brady to lose to feel slightly better. It’s freakish.

2020: Sorry Tom, but there’s no way in hell we can give a declining 42 year old, with attitude problems, a two year extension. The Patriot Way is cold, but it’s rational. Onward. In Bill We Trust. I hope Tom doesn’t embarrass himself in that circus, but whatever. Arians? Ha! I wish these Brady fans would stop second guessing the greatest coach ever. I know they’re emotional, but the Patriot Way is supreme.

2021: We never could have signed him. He didn’t want to be back. The cap! The cap!! Look at the horrible roster and team here and the dream team he joined!! It proves nothing. Bill has tons of money to spend, and he’s about to get the last laugh. The Master Plan enters stage 2. These idiot Brady fans are really stupid and don’t understand football.

2022: **** you, you ****ing traitorous, **** face Brady cult worshippers! He betrayed us and I ****ing hate him! The Patriots had no choice and the rebuild is going to take many, many years.

If Brady can repeat and decides he’s still coming back for a third year with the Bucs the main forum is gonna devolve to drunken rage. Oh god I’ve rarely wanted anything as much as that.

Lol it's embarrassing. I think a lot has to do with them thinking that he'll become a Buccaneers legend too. Guess what he already is but he'll forever be a Patriot.

Injured OL for TB looms large.

I have been hearing pundits go on and on about the oline injuries and that Brady is in trouble cause he can't run, implying that the Bucs would be better off with a running QB for the Rams game.

Lol, even the best of them running QBs Lamar, Murray, Tua, have been made to look like headless chickens when their offensive line is being manhandled. Mahomes was made to look silly at last years SB cause he was running too much instead of just throwing the dang ball.

These pundits have to relearn over and over and over that just because a QB can run doesn't make them a better QB than Brady.

I am really enjoying the heck out of this week having Brady back in the division around. I feel pretty good about the game overall because I do think Brady is going to feast on that secondary and he's not going to need a lot of time to do it. I think with Fournette back that will be huge. I also think the Tampa defense is rounding into playoff form which is going to be absolutely huge for this game. Having this game in Tampa is really unbelievable when you think about it as it took until the last game of the season for it to happen and now here are the Rams coming in on the short week. I mean it could not have lined up any better.

I am not sure why Brady has ever been doubted least of all by Patriot fans. The guy's entire career has been based on ripping the hearts out of his opponents and doubters. Why would Bill be any different?

The Oline issues is a concern. Nothing to totally brush off but if Wirfs can't go we at least know Brady can see it coming unlike his blind spot.

This is a good point. Plus, a back up will have been groomed/prepared to play. RT is not the worst spot on the Oline as compared to LT or even Center. I mean Wirfs is a beast but his position is not the most critical on the line. Outside pressure has never really bothered Brady as opposed to interior. Plus, I have to believe the backs and TEs are going to chip all day vs Donald and Miller.
