OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Which QBs get the most/least roughing the passer calls? @NFLPenaltiesCom has a great sortable database going back to 2009. @tombrady isn't the lowest, but at 0.14 calls per game, he's close -- 33 total since the start of 2009 season.

I’m not sure what to think about this because of how ingrained Belichick’s way of handling press conferences where you get absolutely nothing is in my mind. Is Arians trying to pump up the Rams tires while behind the scenes the Bucs are quietly confident that they’ve got this? Or is he just a moron who’s just putting it out to the world that yeah he’s legitimately worried over the matchup?

Coaches always pump up the other team, this is no different. Bill would make the Jets sound like they were going to beat the pats by 50.

Well Bill’s MO is usually to pump up the other teams crappy players he doesn’t usually fawn over their good ones except in a few cases like anyone who reminds him of LT.

He's facing Donald, Miller, and Floyd. How is acknowledging the problem with facing them, especially if he's got 2 injured OL, somehow being a moron? I mean, he's not claiming anything that everyone doesn't already know.

Reports Whitworth won't play but didn't he hurt himself early and play the rest of last week?

Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth was sidelined for most of Monday’s win over the Cardinals after suffering a leg injury on the team’s first offensive play.

He came back in for a few series but did not play in the second half of the contest as Joe Noteboom took over at left tackle...

Only the Bucs put injured guys back into games didnt you listen to Antonio Brown?

Anyway is he their most important lineman?

I don't know enough about their line but he's like 40 and has been there forever. I think it would be a big loss for them if he didn't play. Surely they can't have a stellar line with all the other allstars they have at other positions.

Ehhh. Whenever Bill talked about Ed Reed I thought he was going to walk out on the field and propose to him.

How does Tampa not have an analytic department come on man, they better not blitz Stafford alot

That guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Jason Licht is into analytics., Every team has that stuff.

True “analytics” is based almost entirely on data and percentages. Scouting trends, like a quarterback’s success against the blitz, is as old as the game. Analytics is misunderstood. It’s basically the idea that outcomes are more important than the root cause. But advanced scouting, using film, data, statistics, has always been used by every coach.

I’m not sure where the Youtube clip is, but there’s one about the defensive game plan in the Super Bowl, entirely based around Mahomes tendencies.

Anyway, here’s one of many articles supporting the fact the Bucs absolutely look at this stuff.

He's not getting that the issue being highlighted is the strength of the opposition defense.
Yes.

My bad. I read that as saying they faced teams that were tops on the offensive side.

All my errors are mistakes.

If the Rams play a lot of zone (they were the most zone-heavy team in the NFL in the regular season), the Bucs still have a chance to score lots of points. If they switch to heavy man (esp. on third down), it will be tougher even though the Rams corners outside of Ramsey aren't good and the safeties are backups. The Bucs have some deep threat WRs (Perriman, Miller, Grayson) to take advantage but it would take the offensive line holding up which is a tough spot with the injuries against that Rams pass rush. Have to try to maximize the damage on first and second down and avoid third down as much as they can. That means play action shots, first down passing, screens on third, tempo - every trick in the book to avoid third and long against a settled pass rush playing lots of games. Goes without saying that when they have 1 v 1 opportunities Evans and Gronk need to win decisively to get big plays.

Bucs D needs to change it up significantly against McVay. Much more press man with bracket coverage on Kupp; with the secondary healthy again they have the horses to hold up and win. Very limited blitzing and the front 4 pass rush has to win to with the more time press man affords them. They also need to get to third down situations - White in particular has to be disciplined against the McVay/Shanahan offense "eye candy" that gives the Rams lots of freebies on early downs.

This will be a tough game but it's at home and Stafford has been shaky down the stretch (McVay has switched to run-heavy to protect him). Bucs have a better shot than many people are giving them but they will need to bring their A game and hope for Stafford to have some brain farts. The Vegas line looks fair to me.

Past this game, if the offensive line can get healthy the Bucs still have a good shot against Green Bay or SF. This will likely be their toughest game of remaining NFC matchups.

Excellent post and I agree completely. Will the defense be able to get some pressure with 4 and will White play well. If the offense can avoid 3 and outs and give them some rest that would help. As much as they hope Stafford makes a few big mistakes that can't be counted on. Need to force him to throw 40 times and the odds should be good.
