OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

No.

It is a simple case of interests not being aligned anymore. Brady wanted things the Pats could/would not offer (some they could not, some they would not).

We are all reading WAY too much into this.

Brady wanted a long term commitment in the damn 2017 offseason so please spare us.

They very well might be the best team in the league. But it’s week 3 and they are in the best division in football. It’s won’t be an easy road.

They look like classic September pretenders to me. Everything about them. Parading around and celebrating like they’ve won the Super Bowl…zero adversity, no notable injuries. A quarterback who is well known for being a paper tiger and crumbling when the going gets even slightly rough.

We’ll see…

Agree completely. Stafford was good but not great at all. Doesn't mean they can't win it all but we will see. Same thing with GB last night. It's funny I was actually shocked he was able to get them in FG range in 40 seconds. That's how anti-clutch he's been in his career. The jumped up and down like he won the SB. Nice win though I'll give it to them. SF couldn't figure out that Adams needed to be stopped on that drive but they still made the plays and then probably had a parade this morning to celebrate.

What do you guys think of Evans? Bucs fans are so in love with him but the contrast with him and Cooper Kupp is glaring who is definitely top 3. Stafford had megatron at his prime and now this guy.

Evans is very good but he doesn't seem to have the ability to get wide open and take a pass downtown for 40plus yards. Gronk use to have it. AB still does. Godwin gets close.

When Brady went to the Bucs, I thought Evans was a top 5 receiver in the conversation with Tyreek Hill and Kupp. But after a season and a bit of watching him, I'd say he falls in the category as a very good Wr#1 in the top 15, but he is nowhere close to top 5.

Evans is often covered by guys like Ramsey, Lattimore, Alexander, etc. You’re comparing him to the “hottest” receiver in football right now, a guy whose production is like 2X his career norm over the first three games. Cupp is a good wide receiver, but the fact he’s so wide open provides a clue about how easy it’s been for him in the Rams offense so far this season.

Which could they not?

The supporting cast. Brady would have to wait a year to get a better supporting cast. Pats did what they could to maximize their window with Brady and the cap consequences came. Could they have been avoided with better resource management? Perhaps.

But when Brady decided to leave, we could not offer him what Tampa Bay did.

The Rams are almost definitely much better but the Rams yesterday acted EXACTLY like Jacksonville did in week 2 of 2018.

I agree. They "blew their load" so to speak and, despite that, just like they did last year against the Chiefs, the Bucs showed at the end that they could adjust and hang with them. If there is a second match-up, I expect it to be very different. I would also think that the Bucs will take the necessary step to fix their dreadful secondary.

The Rams are one of the best team in football right now but they are in the toughest division in football. They play 2 games each against the 49rs, Seahawks, and Cardinals and can easily go 2-4. Who is the best of this group and who is the worst is anybody's guess.

The Bucs defense got rolled…it’s hard to tell how they’d do against the Rams in the future, but it’s likely they won’t have a practice squad caliber cornerback, and their sellout pass rush can’t be as punchless. They were just totally beaten in every aspect.

On the other side of the ball, the Bucs were completely one-dimensional most of the game, abandoning the run after realizing they needed to score quickly every time they had the ball to have a chance. The Rams were able to keep the scoring down, but Brady had his way despite the defense in pass mode the whole time. And this was without AB.

I think the Bucs would be just fine against the Rams later on.

And probably at home which is key. The RAMS will not have home field advantage unless they steamroll their division. TB has a much better schedule in theory. Who knows though with that defense. I'll say for sure that even if they allow 27pts per game ala 2010s NO, they will still make the playoffs and be a factor because of the QB. Wonder where you find one of those guys.

Rams are in an interesting spot with their very tough schedule. If they get through it all with the 1 seed then they’re inarguably great and there’s no shame in losing to them in the playoffs. And if they’re not that great well, they ain’t getting that 1 seed. I don’t think there is any middle room for them to be flukey and get it.

I just had a very high expectation of Evans. I wasn't expecting him to be Randy Moss making lots of "wow" plays. But at 6'5" with the draft pedigree and the stats to back him up, I expected it every now and then. Don't get me wrong, he is a dependable and solid player as they come.

AB on the other hand, he gives that "wow" factor and is a threat to take any play for a TD.

What the hell is the point of blitzing against an immobile QB, when Vea and Suh collapse the pocket on their own? Just a bunch of guys ramming into each other. Jesus…this was the problem all last year until they smartened up in the postseason. They should have 5-6 defensive backs out there since Vea, Suh, White and David give you so much scheme flexibility.

I think Bowles is a good DC but stubbornly sticks with his lifelong defensive philosophy, despite the Bucs actual personnel calling for something different.

The injuries hurt them, but their CBs were never great anyway, so the dropoff isn’t that remarkable. They still have all their key players and shouldn’t be this bad, but for Bowles further exposing the secondary by bringing way too much heat way too often. Teams know they just need to slow down the pass rush and the Bucs are toast.

Well you see, the Bucs always treat September as an extension of the preseason so some growing pains are understandable as they work out how good they’re gonna be.

I can understand that. In some ways, I’ve been disappointed in his lack of huge plays, though I think Brady has changed his style too. Evans is a lot more of a complete route runner now rather than a go-route specialist. I did think he’d be more of a threat downfield though. He has drawn a lot of PI calls.

I’m foolishly hoping that he’s not showing certain plays and alignments in the regular season.

The fact that Brady completed almost 75% of his passes and nearly 450 yards without Brown against a good defense not even concerned about the run has me extremely confident in a rematch.

It wasn't just the contract issue but the talent deficiency. The Pats would have had to go all in to try and win over the last few years of Brady's career. The Bucs have done this (also the Rams). But it is not in BB's DNA to do that. He doesn't prioritize the short term over the medium and long term.

Anyways, it's also increasing looking like the talent wasn't the only issue as it looks like the McDaniels offence also has to evolve to today's NFL.

Yeah Brady looked dynamite last night. Those throws were lazers.
