OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

They gotta fix those penalties. Against good teams it'll get you killed

I love how the Chiefs people spent an offseason saying how Mahomes was gonna focus more on making plays from the pocket instead of improvising and then making big mistakes but he’s somehow even less disciplined so far.

Two straight weeks were he has tried to play superman and has thrown 2 awful interceptions that changed both games.

Mahomes body language has become super ****y. I think the days of the “aww shucks” kid are now over. I really can’t believe the last three INTs he’s thrown. One lost the game against BAL and was an absolutely ridiculous attempt while being sacked; second was a no look pass today that fooled his receiver; then the insanely careless heave, with the game tied and under two minutes, right into traffic. Favre comes to mind for this type of hero ball arrogance with apparently no one to get in his face and threaten to bench him.

Hot take: the Chiefs offense hasn’t been the same since they cut Hunt. And I know they won a Super Bowl in there. But it’s just not as multi dimensional. And then they lose Watkins as well? Their offense is 3 people playing sandlot ball.

Knew that was coming. No Brown, the defensive injuries.

Licht needs to be on the phone this week trying to acquire one or two corners.

I mentioned this in another thread, but their 2018 offense is the only historic one. 2019 and 2020 were really good offenses, but nothing special or historic.

Brady wasn’t the problem.

On the short Godwin rush and his sneak, I selfishly wanted him to throw them in and keep the MVP gap widening given that Mahomes and Murray had pedestrian games today. I knew coming in that this game was almost one of those guaranteed losses so would have loved to have seen him stat pad a few touchdowns.

Watched this dude throw today, and I'm seeing:

Tight spirals
Precise
Lots of zip/throwing it hard (still)
Evading rushers and dropping dimes into tight coverage, all while on the move/around the pocket

I mean, a couple plays he evaded a rusher by ducking and moved up and delivered a strike or ran for yards.

Hes doing 2007-2011 Brady sh** at 44. Even in a loss I was genuinely impressed as hell by his play against a STOUT rams defense.

Bucs still getting QB play at its finest, pretty jealous.

Yeah, Offense is not the Bucs problem! It’s hard when you fall behind and you have to score a TD every drive to keep up against a top 5 defense.

the D is their problem. Their secondary is ok when their are fully healthy imagined if they are not like right now. Murphy-Bunring is injured, Davis is playing injured and now Dean is injured. So basically their three starting CB are injured. They are not many team that can overcome that. They’ll need reinforcements. Sherman? If Bill is smart, he could get a 1st or 2nd for Gilmore!

what is also troubling to me is the inability of Bowles to defend the screen game. Three game in a row where the opposing offense used the screen game a lot and Bucs can’t stop it. Offensively their are a gameplan team with Brady but defensively Bowles is stuck to what he wants to do, pressure, pressure, pressure. In their defense, it’s hard to get to the QB when you are held consistently. The number of time they are being held in the first 3 games is astonishing and it almost never got called. Vea getting the Shaq treatment.

Both of his picks today were awful. The no look pass pick is just dumb all around but earth shattering dumb when you throw a pick on it.

Can we say now. I think we can. Tom Brady broke the Chiefs.

I mentioned this after last week's loss. They were much more diverse with Hunt. I called it the Lebron factor. Everyone is just watching Mahomes waiting for him to create magic every play.

You can see how defenses have changed playing them. They are much more patient just waiting for his crazy throw. He is really turning into Favre.

Mahomes threw bad ball that got picked on game winning drive.
When I watch Mahomes he doesn't seem to be very accurate for the greatest thing since sliced bread. If he has a high completion % it has more to do with the amount of open receivers that he has to throw to than his accuracy.

Tom Brady broke a lot of teams and Belichick broke this one.

I don’t want to sound like I am making excuses because I am not but I found the referring quite one sided. Rams only got 1 penalty while I saw multiple holding, facemasks and pick plays not getting called
One of the Rams TDs was on a screen pass where #79 was 5 yards downfield blocking before the ball was thrown.

Mahomes’ interceptions weren’t caught the last three years. If you watched him closely especially last year he threw so many to defenders who just weirdly dropped them. It wasn’t going to last forever.

with regards to the Bucs their defense and running game has been very poor the first three weeks; can’t keep putting everything on the shoulders of Brady.

I thought the Chiefs lost the Ratbirds game on the late fumble and their inability to stop them on 4th and 1 at the end.

I agree with their D. Davis, David and Vea are the only one that are playing good. I am the most concerned about White. It seems like he is in Jamie Collins mode right now. Running everywhere but doing nothing. It’s the second game in a row where he took out his own DB who was in coverage and resulted in 30 yds and 40 yds gain.

their running game is the least of their problems. They will use the passing as an extension to the running game. Their offense is fine.

It’s amazing how if teams can make Mahomes put together 10+ play drives and have to dink and dunk, the Chiefs offense looks normal. It seems in a lot of games that 7-14 of their points come from a long pass or a broken play. But if you’re able to sit back and make him string together a bunch of plays, that doesn’t seem to fit his style as it would a Brady or Montana who were perfectly comfortable throwing short pass after short pass to eventually get to the end zone.

Something needs to happen with the defense. A move for a corner or two. There’s no telling how long Murphy-Bunting is out and Dean’s injury yesterday looked like it could be season ending or at least a while.

I’m not sure about the running game. With all the receivers playing, I have more confidence in them just going full 2014 Divisional Round game plan every game. I feel Brady throwing it around 50 times gives you a better chance to win than trying to be 50/50 with your runs and passes. Would a running game that could get you a consistent 4 yards per carry be helpful? Yeah, but I don’t think it’s high on the list of concerns.
