OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

By the box score Brady only dropped back twice and then left the game. So were the starters just barely in it?
Yes, the starters only played the opening drive on both sides of the field.

The first 2 plays were runs by Playoff Lenny for minimal gains. On third down Brady found Gio Bernard for a pass just short of the first down mark which Gio was able to pick up.

On the next set of downs Brady threw a deep back shoulder pass to AB, it was probably a 40 yard pass, and hit it perfectly, unfortunately AB couldn't hang on and dropped it.

The next play was a run up the middle with RoJo which was stuffed for no gain.

Then Wirfs RT missed the inside move by the rookie DE and gave up the sack on Brady. Brady had no where to go because Smith LT got pushed back on the left side so Brady was surrounded.

Biggest take away for the starting offense was Gio. He is such a huge addition to the offense, gives Brady that underneath reliable check down RB that catches it and can make the initial defender miss the tackle. Gio also had a third catch for a first down on the second drive with Gabbert.

I'll give a little more detail on the missed deep pass to AB, which really showed the chemistry that AB and Brady have.

AB was running a streak but was keeping about 5 yards away from the sidelines and kept the DB playing the inside position who was keeping pace with AB.

Brady seeing that put it out towards the sideline to where AB could time his break.

AB showed his brilliant route running ability by staying full speed until the last sec where he turned his body and broke towards the sideline giving him plenty of separation to make the catch uncontested, it would have been a great catch, which you expect a HOF to make.

AB and Brady are going to light it up. AB also seemed to play the same role as last season, off the field in 2 Wr formation, and on in 3 wr formations playing outside with Godwin moving into the slot.

Why on earth do NFL teams underrate the value of guys like Bernard? It’s easy to find a downhill runner who can get you 4 ypc. The Bucs were fortunate to win last year despite the iron hands RBs. It was nice to see a guy smoothly field a short pass and know what to do.

Ya that Gio pick up will do wonders last year throwing to Fournette/Jones was basically a throw away

This is against second strings but an elite first round pick looked like how he was supposed to look. Dude was in the backfield multiple times right as soon as the QB got the ball

Last December after the Bucs came back to beat the Falcons - I made the prediction here that the Bucs were going all the way. Stuck to that prediction throughout the playoffs.

There's no guarantee that Brady will stay healthy all year but I am just as confident this year that if he can do that - he is winning league MVP. Might be a historical season for both him and his team.

I remember Tony Romo being laughed and taunted at after the KC game when he was all over cbs saying Tampa figured it out that game and they’d be in the super bowl

Yep…and I was probably one of the guys laughing at him.

I picked the Bucs to win it all preseason, but after that second loss to the Saints I thought they’re about as one-and-done guarantee as it gets. My god, was that a wretched performance in the franchise’s biggest game in over a decade. I mean, wtf was that?

Just a clunker...happens to the best of them.

At least TB got their win when it mattered most. Playing a division rival 3 times in a season is asking for trouble I think. 2010 Pats will tell you all about that.

It won’t surprise me if the Saints take one against the Bucs this year, even with that QB mismatch. Payton just owns Arians.

Yeah that second game against the Saints was one of the worst of Brady’s entire career. Just an absolute no show. And it’s when I gave up hope on the team. I forgot to never doubt Brady.

Brady is a huge underdog when it comes to the MVP this season. Brady would have to overcome the Rodgers and Mahomes narratives in order to get the award, even if nobody else jumps into the competition.

IIRC, that was ABs first game and the offense was really out of sync all night. No excuse for the defense though as they played a lot of zone and Brees ate them up. They obviously learned when the playoff game came around as they were all over the receivers and got the 3 picks.

I think it will be very difficult. The Saints literally have nothing at QB. In their first preseason game the QBs had SIX turnovers. I think Tampa eats them alive as Arians buffoonery won't come into play.

BTW, I LOVE Payton. I think he is one of the most underrated coaches. I just think this is a big reset year for the Saints especially if they don't have Thomas. Kind of like last year was for us.

Ya no QB in running on Tampa is a non starter won’t be good for NO

I think the Saints should have begged Alex Smith to play another year and signed him. Or just rolled the dice on a wild card like Fitzpatrick. Bridgewater (5-0 with Saints in 2019) was there too via trade.

Winston is the worst possible fit for that team (and most teams). Hill is unlikely to develop into a reliable, steady hand. They didn’t need a great QB with that protection and screen game…they just needed a competent one.

I'm with you on Brady having an amazing 2021 season! I personally would prefer him not to win the MVP! Let them give it to Mahomes,Rodgers or whomever else! That MVP curse has been alive and well for 22 years! Brady came very close to breaking it in 2007 and 2017!
