OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Yup. Was really disconcerting to hear the excuses (and they were excuses). That's not the BB I know.

But still if Bill hopefully has a successful rebuild - if you call it that as we did go on a spending spree - and gets us back to contention in the next year or so then all will be well.

I expect the Patriots will improve this year. The bigger issue is how these free agency splashes tend to rear their ugly head in year 2 and 3. I just can’t buy the narrative that it was an either/or. These were veteran signings, not young draft picks for the future. Brady’s cost of $25M would mean they could have him and $25M less…same cost as Henry/Smith. If Jones winds up being great, it will all be forgotten, but we’re far away from that point. It was exciting to watch him last night, but honestly his style just kept reminding me of why Brady is so great.

My understanding is the Bucs-Bengals is very likely to be played as scheduled Saturday night. Storm is tracking on a path toward Tampa, but might only have some rain and wind affecting the game. They could move it earlier, but it’s unlikely.

Cool to see that people on the main forum want Mac to get #12 so Bill can spite Brady. Very normal.

I haven't seen that but I believe you and I also know that there are some real idiots pretending to be Patriot fans.

What I find so fraudulent is that prior to last season I do not recall any Patriots fans saying that this was gonna be a throw away year, a bridge year, that dealing with Covid was gonna put them at a huge disadvantage that not even Bill could overcome. In fact I seem to recall Patriots fans insisting that there is no better coach in the league at navigating the chaos of Covid, that the Pats will actually benefit from this!

But fast forward 8 weeks and the entire history of the season was revised by not only the fans but the coach as well. It was insulting.

I didn't predict a bad year or anything but I did say somewhere at some point during the season that it was too much for even BB to overcome.

In my opinion, Covid was BBs kryptonite. He's all about preparation and he wasn't really able to do that during the Covid laden season.

Despite his dumbassery with Brady, BB still remains the best HC for the Patriots. He's made some huge blunders but has also made some fantastic decisions over the years one of which being carrying Brady as the fourth QB so that he wouldn't lose him. At the time, that was no small decision.

Bill blamed the cap. He said that to Weiss in October and pretty much throughout the year. Said he had to take a mulligan on the season because they went all in to win the previous 3 SBs. It was easily his most embarrassing set of excuses for a guy who always preached no excuses.

Especially lame because he could have easily converted higher vet salaries into extensions with voidable option years.

If money was such an issue, and he knew the team went going to be good, then why the heck did he franchise tag Thuney when he could have let him walked and saved that cap space for next season while collecting a 3rd round comp.

That excuse only makes his decision making last year worse as he should have tanked and had better draft capital had he known his team was that bad.

Right on. Because the cap was always a mirage to sell to the fanbase. Bill is one of the best, if not the best Cap maneuvers of all time. Honestly, it's not hard to manage really. I mean you just gave several examples of what they could have done to free money and they did none of them while tagging Thuney and extending McCourty too.

My belief is Bill really thought he had something in Stidham. He had to believe that as he did nothing in the draft after Brady left and then he signed Cam on June 28. I believe after TC and realizing the impact of Covid, he folded tent pretty much after September which is why he went on the radio with Weiss in October. He had to begin greasing the excuse making skids with the fans and of course it worked as they all swallowed it hook line and sinker because Bill can do no wrong and how dare we question the almighty Bill. But Kraft certainly knew the truth and how bad Bill had screwed the roster which is why he hired so many personnel guys this offseason to help "collaborate" with Bill which is also no coincidence that we finally had a good off-season actually spending money early in FA and taking the obvious picks in the draft.

Patriots were originally 3.5 point underdogs at home(!) to the Bucs in week 4 - but now I can't find any odds maybe they're off the board. Wonder why. Pending QB decision? Other than a Brady injury I can't see any scenario where the Pats would be favored to beat them.

Anyone here who can watch the Tamper exhibition game and comment?

Pocket QBs can’t improvise? Look how badly Brady jukes the defense here. #91 comes off Gronk’s chip and loses his jockstrap, and as he clears out to defend the middle, it allows Brady to shift right for the passing lane. On the other side, #51 stops running after that filthy pump fake.

By the box score Brady only dropped back twice and then left the game. So were the starters just barely in it?

Arians says Saturday’s preseason opener was “good and bad, a lot of bad, a lot of ugly” and explains that botched extra point.

Note that the audio on a lot of these is terrible

Arians on the call against Tryon, and his defense having “one of the worst tackling experience … like we didn’t have any arms.”

Blaine Gabbert only had one drive Saturday and it was resulted in a touchdown, and he cites some key third-down conversions.
