OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Tom Brady called the Bucs late this afternoon to inform them he's not even close to making a decision about retirement, according to a source.

I don't know, but I'm still holding out hope.
He’s done. He is not happy he did not get to break the news his way.
He is trolling Schefter for breaking his news
He will probably do some sort of video with his farewell soon

Why would he be lying to both the team and his father about that, though?

I don’t think he lied to them. Only my guess. I think that he wanted to retire after the SB so he would not take the attention off the teams and players playing in the game. Someone in his camp accidentally leaked the info and they are in damage control mode. His initial reaction after it was leaked was to still retire after the SB but now that the cat is out of the bag he needs to do it soon. I think he told his Dad and team his true intentions but told them to decoy for him so he can get together a farewell video or letter. His Dad and team are probably pissed at Schefter also and getting some revenge by trolling him. I think Tom releases a video beginning of next week. He can’t do it tomorrow with Conference games. Again just my guess

I think Brady is leaning towards retirement but he's not 100% sure.

If I'm the Bucs, they better be promising him all the weapons and protection his heart desires and working to get his family on board.

I don't know if the Bucs can do anything to alter his decision. When you put in all that he does and you lose the season on a 0 blitz trying to keep a team out of field goal range I think some trust in the decisions being made there is lost forever. This is probably all about his family and his dedication and less so about the Bucs.

Add to that, Brady had the worst protection since maybe the Broncos playoff loss. Ironic that it was Von Miller back there again. Rams went all out and got the extra pieces they needed. Bucs didn't even though their team was falling apart. It would have been great if Miller was sacking Stafford instead.

It all came to roost in the Rams playoff loss. Brady saw the Rams, a team all in, then looked at his own team and saw that they did not do enough.

Miller wasn’t a need where they ****ed up was not guaranteeing AB his money knowing damn well they need him after Godwin went out. Wasn’t it like 800K just embarrassing man

Miller would have helped Jpp wasn't getting any healthier, Tryon hit a rookie wall, Barrett dissapeared at times and had injuries. At the very least, he wouldn’t be harassing Brady.

In hindsight, I agree that they probably should have tried to appease Brown. I wonder if Brady is pissed off about that too. It's just strange that he signed an extension and looked nearly 100% to play one more year, to suddenly retirement.

I'm not sure this can really be true when Licht literally resigned all of his starters from last year to try to run the thing back. No super bowl winner had ever done that even pre-cap. Injuries happen and seasons are often derailed because of them but to blame Tampa not doing enough just isn't true in my opinion.

And when the injuries started happening, they sat on their laurels for the most part. When AB was suspended they added more fuel to the fire by threatening to cut him.

Bucs had a lot of trade ammunition. They have all their draft picks and they could easily make the cap work.

I'm not really blaming Bucs. I'm just speculating and wondering if the Bucs did or not do things that helped Brady decide that he wanted to retire.

I think the issue was none of the injuries were season ending. It was strange in that way.

By the time Godwin got hurt the trade deadline had passed and it was too late to try to get a reinforcement. They had AB but obviously he lost his mind at the end over the incentives and playing time. I mean they kind of did all they could there by keeping him after the vaccination fiasco.

But overall I really don't get the sense that Brady is retiring because of anything Tampa Bay has done or hasn't done. I mean from the time that they signed him and gave him a fully guaranteed contract they have done everything for him from trading for Gronk to signing AB to getting Fournette and then resigning all of their starters last year after they won. I really believe his decision isn't based on football but his family and even perhaps his quality of life. Maybe he just doesn't want to do the grind anymore at age 44.

The cap situation with the Bucs next year is very easily manageable AND the NFC is looking to be down. And the NFC South in particular might be the worst division in history next season. So it’s basically Brady vs whoever comes out of the NFC West, and only one of them can compete for playoff seeding at the end of the day. The North is gonna be a total joke and the East is never not gonna be a clown show including the Cowboys.

It doesn’t make any sense to step away for football reasons. So the X factor that makes the puzzle pieces fit either has to be acrimony between Brady and Arians or the family dynamic simply being too huge to put off any longer.
