OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

If you're not convinced how much NFL has changed regarding passing: six of the top 10 QBs in all-time career passing yards are active or retired last year, but no active NFL players rank in the all-time top 100 in career interceptions. (Richard Sherman is top, tied for 117th)

A division title would give the Bucs their first true home playoff game (Super Bowl notwithstanding) since a loss to the Giants in January 2008.

With Zach Triner on the COVID-19 reserve list, the Bucs today signed veteran long-snapper Garrison Sanborn. Sanborn, 36, is a Tampa native, was Tampa Bay's snapper in 2017-18, last played with 49ers in 2019. Sunday will be special, as he played for Buffalo from 2009-16.

Sanborn's signing is just to the practice squad, but Bucs can elevate him Sunday if Triner isn't back from COVID-19 reserve list. They have two openings on the 53 right now, and had an opening on PS from Breshad Perriman signing to the 53 last week.

Interesting article before the beginning of the 2021 season. The writer has 4 Bucs that have a good chance to the HOF plus Brady and Gronk who are obvious locks.

He has AB at 80%. If AB behaves after his suspension, I would put it at 90%.

Evans at 80% is too high imo. He's in the Hall of very good but if he can continue to be consistent for enough years, he will get in. I give him 70%.

Suh at 70% seems about right. He has had a good season so after this year, I'd give him 80%.

David at 50% is about right.

Bottom line, Brady makes not only the offense look good but the defence through complimentary football. If Brady plays two more years with these 4 players, they will all be virtual locks to the HOF.

The Patriots trotted out 6 OL 61% of the time.
That's crazy but somehow I would of thought it was more. I didn't notice what they did with TEs either but TB doesn't need to do any of this. Keep throwing 2/3 downs, especially 1st down, and throw in more runs when appropriate. BUF is not going to try and line up in man and they will get killed in zone so it's hard to see them do much without their corner.

I like these types of articles.

Not sure why they skipped Sherman. He should be at last 80% and probably higher.

AB should be at 100% if not for the moronic Hall of Fame panel.

Evans is way too high...agree. I don't even see him at 50%, and he's dependent on another championship. Very good receiver; not one of the very best who you think of from this era. Made Second Team All Pro one time. Not a Hall resume yet...might be able to do it with long term consistency and those 1,000 yard seasons.

Suh should be in, IMO. 90%.

David at 50% is a good handicap. Another guy where another championship probably puts him over the top.

Of note, for NE the writer only had Gilmour, McCourty, and Hightower with a chance.

I highly doubt Gilmour can make an impact on a non-playoff team. His best bet for HOF was to stay with the Patriots.

MCCOURTY I'm not sure if he has made enough splash plays????

Hightower shot his chance by skipping a year. He would need to be Mr.February a couple times to make it to HOF. It is his playoff performances that has made him special.

It was written before the 2021 season started, so no Sherman.

Smith: 76.5%
Henry: 29.4%

Jakob Johnson: 49%

Johnson is the one guy the Bucs can't duplicate, as they don't carry a FB.

I liked the heavy running attack, but they only scored one touchdown on a somewhat flukey play,

I'm curious how/why you'd consider Harris's touchdown run "flukey," you mean because they don't happen that often? What I saw was superb execution by the Pats helped along by safety Hyde over-pursuing (even if he stayed home there was no guarantee of making the stop). Blocking at the point of attack and on the backside was textbook, Damien made the most of it with a great cutback. The Pats just beat them on the play, I wouldn't consider it any more flukey than a well-executed touchdown bomb.

Nor do they want to duplicate him though because 14 points won't cut it in good weather. NE has gotten lots of breaks this year and 2 of them are the weather against the 2 best QBs on their schedule if you don't count Dak. The weather has allowed them to play this way but unless the TB defense can get off the field or get turnovers they will need to score. They can't tackle and they over pursue and play off with zone. None of this makes me think they will be getting many 3 and outs.

Duplicating him wouldn't result in a guaranteed mere 14 points of offense. You want to learn from the two games, not mimic the teams (who didn't take the exact same approaches themselves). But one thing that dominating the game with the run leads to is winning the time of possession.

The Bucs threw more than 50 times last week. They should look at how the Colts and Patriots ran the ball so successfully and take it seriously. That doesn't mean you only have Brady throwing 3 times in the game. But Jones only throwing 3 times, and Wentz only throwing 20 times, shows that you don't need to get into passing shootouts with the Bills.

Im sure they will look and I don't mean to suggest that it's all or nothing that's being implied but I don't think it's the way to go. Fournette needs less touches not more and Jones is a fumble machine. We will see and controlling time of possession is always good but I'd rather they they do it with short passing mixed with runs of course. Just do what they normally do and worry about the defense.

Maybe flukey isn’t the right word. Not the type of touchdown drive you can expect to happen by design.

There used to be two greatest of all-time QBs: the statistical one and the championship one.

Now there’s only one.
LOL. So true. So nice of Brady to condense everything himself.

TOM BRADY MIGHT BE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME, BUT AARON RODGERS IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME!

- Idiots in the media (and elsewhere)
Mahomes was laying claim to being the BOAT until Brady broke him.

This is one of the main reasons I will not be following the NFL after Brady retires. It is an abomination what they have done to the game with the rule changes that makes the passing game criminal. Well, except for Mac Jones. LOL

I was just about to say that the Bucs will have more Hall worthy players than the Pats.

That would be Vita Vea.
