Detroit Lions decide to retain Jim Caldwell as their head coach

One less thing for the Nervous Nancys to worry about...
“After spending a significant amount of time together, it is clear that our football philosophies are very similar," Quinn said, according to the Lions' site. "Consequently, I am convinced he is the right man to lead our football team moving forward.
Funny, I heard on various podcasts that an ex-Pat GM would never keep such a weak coach in place.

The piece hypes Caldwell's likability and leadership and gives him credit for getting Stafford to produce but ignores a lot of his dumb decisions and lack of team discipline. This is the guy who put up with Suh's baloney. Lucky for him Miami took that problem and his team got better, go figure...

Megatron is a big Caldwell supporter & actually said he was willing to rework his deal if Caldwell returned.

That was before the retirement talk.

I would assume keeping Caldwell is
Detroits best chance of keepin Megatron from retiring.

I don't think it's really about Megatron. Really, it should not be about one player, even a great one like him.

Just found a link ( Report: Lions ownership 'plans to retain' Jim Caldwell, but final decision left to GM ) showing that the Ford family was biased towards keeping Caldwell.

Seems a wise decision by Quinn: test the waters, find out that the owners like him, and if the team stinks next year you get ownership on board, fire him and look "decisive"....

As above I'm not a Caldwell fan. I've seen too many bad in-games decisions, poor preparation (jump ball game!) and bad discipline.

hes from the BB school of facial expressions
BB's face is very expressive. That said, he controls the expressions that he projects to the media. Seriously, his smile lights up his face.

I think it's the right move, his record is actually pretty good. Deserves one more season, barring some unforeseen circumstances he gets fired if he doesn't make the playoffs.
