The original reported deal sounded insane. But the new deal doesn't sound that much better.
4 years, $62M, $66M with incentives, $40M guaranteed for a guy who has missed 12 games over the past 2 seasons.
They had him on a franchise tag for just under $17M. It looks like his first-year cap hit will be only $7.5M, which frees up some room for them this year since they were tight to the cap. But next year it jumps to $17.5M and stays around there. If he plays into next season and they want to get rid of him in 2019, it won't be too prohibitive ($10M in dead money).
The Giants D played quite well without him at the end of last season though. This article covers it:
