Love this signing.
Gordon is a legit WR who can get separation.
NFL doesn't test for weed during the season so we are good there too.
A few things.
1. I like Josh Gordon. He’s a smart guy, very humble. He was a great teammate in NE by all accounts.
2. The Patriots first signed him in 2018, and he had some burst left. He had awesome leaping ability and was still fast for his size. He’s a big dude. Meshed right away in the offense and was arguably their best WR for a few games. Josh rarely targeted him in the red zone, though, which annoyed me.
3. When he came back in 2019, after another suspension, he had clearly lost a lot of the burst. His breakout season was 2013, and that point he was six years removed and 28 years old. He was still an adequate #2/3 receiver but no longer a game breaking talent.
4. He’s now 30. I think he’s a guy who runs a few packages, like deep downfield stuff but definitely isn’t running a route tree. Hasn’t been on the field since 2019. I still like the move for KC since there’s no downside.
5. No one knows for sure about his drug tests because they’re sealed and the league cannot disclose the substance. So the narrative is always controlled by the player. Of course, marijuana would be the obvious damage control claim from his camp, but we all know it’s unlikely he’s chemically dependemt on marijuana and it‘s likely either alcohol or harder opiates…just going from experience about overwhelming probabilities.
