Hopefully they implode and we can pick up Rob. I love the guy despite my hatred for Rex.

How interesting would the AFCE be?

The New England Patriots care not a whit about "interesting".

That's a Dallas Cowboys-NY Jets-Washington Redskins thing.

They can have "interesting".

The thing about Jerry Jones as a GM is he's actually put a ton of talent on that team. The part he utterly fails at is picking the guy to coach that talent.

When is the last time BB brought in a coordinator from outside his tree? Plus Rob Ryan is a "hot coordinator" right now. He'll probably end up as a HC in San Diego or something next year.

I don't get this talk about the Cowboys being super-talented. Their offensive line sucks and their defensive line is nothing special. I don't care how good your skill position players are if you're getting consistently beaten at the LOS.

and there you have it...owner/GM collecting the Dez Bryants of the world...I'll take the Vince Wilfork, Rob Gronkowski types.

Year after year, the Cowboys under perform their talent. They've switched players and coaches. Maybe Jones should look at the one constant variable that has been their the entire time.

I agree, but you really have to look at the entire picture, including Romo and the coach--it's all an interlocking web of dysfunctional parts and Jerruh is just the circus master.

It's hilarious to listen to their play-by-play guys and post-game guys after they lose--the teeth-knashing and finger-pointing is priceless. Last night the consesus was "they just don't have the talent on the roster that other teams have."

Rob actually has two Super Bowl rings with us as the linebacker's coach

Already got it.

If I'm Jerry Jones I FedEx Sean Payton a blank check and a letter that says "Choose your staff and I'll keep my nose out of it".

Of course if Jerry Jones could admit he's not doing a good job and step aside like that, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I would love for Rob to return here. He knows his **** defensively. BB would probably put the trust in him to run the unit by himself.

Cowboys have been paper champions for years. There is no reason that team should go 7-9, 8-8 and 9-7. Garrett is completely to blame. That team is too damn talented to suck that bad.

Not defending Garrett, but I do think young coaches in general are not given proper time to develop. They're no different than players in that they lack experience, and can learn and improve from their mistakes.

This was an interesting read on the subject, which talks about how within 3 seasons, 9 of the 11 coaches hired in 2009 were fired.

NFL owners don't allow new coaches to develop | Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog: Bucs Beat | tampabay.com & Tampa Bay Times

This is not an attempt to criticize the firing of Morris, 35, who lost his final 10 games by wide margins. The Bucs clearly have more problems than their coaching staff.

But in general, some teams may be making mistakes by not giving first-time head coaches a chance to develop. Certainly, it's a microwave society that demands immediate gratification. That said, what if owners had always had a three or four year window for head coaches to prove their worth?

The Cowboys Tom Landry did not have a winning record until his seventh season. Pittsburgh's Chuck Noll had three straight losing seasons to start his head coaching career with the Steelers and wound up winning four Super Bowls. Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula reached the playoffs twice in his first five years and went 0-2 in the post-season during that stretch.

Shula survived the early years with the Colts to win an NFL title, two Super Bowls with the Dolphins and a record 328 career games.

Some of the greatest coaches of all-time wouldn't have survived in today's NFL. Even BB had his struggles in his first coaching stint.

So Garrett may be a mediocre coach, but if the intention is for him to develop into a great coach and the potential is there, I understand it. It's better than trotting out a guy like Norv Turner who you know is never going to improve from what he is.
