OT: Coaching firings around the league

No idea why Sean Payton would go to Denver.

Arguable the most competitive division in the league
Worst QB in the division by far
Two elite QB's to face 4x/ year
Stuck with said worst QB
No degree of success in 7 years

If it were the Chargers, I would understand.

The more I look at Payton's resume, the less impressed I am.

16 years as Saints HC. 15 of those with a HOF QB.
Missed the postseason 7 times
Three NFC title trips

His coaching played a huge role in three straight postseason losses (17-19). The no call stands out. Yet, his play calling before said event, kept the Rams hanging around. In 2017, the Minnesota Miracle sticks out. However, he was unable to get one first down to essentially kick a last second fg. Minnesota would've had no time for a miracle if the Saints last possession resulted in a first. He was outclassed in 2019 by Zimmer. Refused to run the ball while his 41 year old QB was getting abused all day.

Yes, he did win a Super Bowl in 2009. What's stunning is even with Minnesota having 5 turnovers, and Favre being Favre late, the Vikings were inches away from winning that game somehow.

His gutsiest move ever was the Super Bowl onside kick. They were down 10-6 at the time. If Hank Baskett recovers that ball, you give Peyton Manning a short field trailing by four. Regardless, it worked and the Colts never truly recovered imo. Turning point.

He is a good coach. I just think his reputation is larger than the actual results.

The Broncos are stuck with Wilson for now, so whoever they bring in, must install an offense that Wilson is familiar with and likes to run. I wouldn't be shocked if they brought in at least an OC that runs the same type of offense as Seattle did. Hackett's offense was quick timing plays, Wilson is more of a play action passer.

We have threads because each one has a topic. I read the threads I find interesting. If I skip the threads where you talk about TB and the Bucs I would have to skip over most of the forum. Why can't you respect others and talk about the topic of a thread?
Same can be said about all the BB/MP posts. Till one of them gets fired, they're OT for this thread. It's not as if there aren't enough threads here already to discuss every single freaking aspect of that situation. If not, create one more. I know it's tempting to vent each and every chance a person gets, but we get it, and don't need to hear it over and over and over again.

Its still a big hit, but at the start of 2024, the donks could designate him as a post June 1 release, spread his cap hit over '24 &'25... His 37m 2025 base salary becomes fully guaranteed if he's on the roster on the 5th day of the 2024 season... Keeps the guarantees in back half of that deal from kicking in... Its still a huge dead money hit - 85m (per PFF), spread over 2 years - but its cheaper than paying out the combined 94m in base salaries in '24, '25, & '26...

Interesting, yet it would take "George" to decide the player he traded two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Shelby Harris for in March (!) is now worthless. Not just worthless, but a massive liability, one that takes $85M to get off your books. This is the same "George" that the owners could have just fired, but, nope, they just gave him a vote of confidence.

I suppose "George" said to the owners the mistake wasn't the Wilson trade (in March), it was the Hackett hire (in January).

It was widely rumoured Hackett was hired hoping he'd tempt Aaron Rodgers to come to Denver.

Given that fell through, he became expendable, a convenient fall guy.

Far easier to eat the contract of a first time coach than the bloated mess that is the Wilson contract.

Then simply stay on topic. Very easy. Respect others and talk about the thread topic. Don't create chaos.

Trying to catch that "elway bringing in a re-tread" fire again... desperation move trying to stay relevant... he should be gone, glad he's not, and i hope he stays forever... may the donks suffer for eternity in the cesspool of mediocrity

Dan Quinn was a finalist for the Broncos job last season and Mayo wasn’t, and I don’t see how anything would have changed in the past year. If they want an offensive head coach, then neither of those two will be top candidates.

I think for the Denver job they should look at Caldwell as HC.
BoB as OC
And either Mayo or Flores as DC

Stop poaching our targets lol.
If Bill is staying we need Obrein back unless Las Vegas fires Mcdaniels.
McD ? As a HC? He's 0-2 so far. Maybe he turns it around in Vegas, but I am all set with him as a HC as of 12/27/22. OC, 100% yes.

I agree with the general idea that you have to keep trying if you don't have a QB you're happy with (i.e. Drew Lock).

I don't agree with the Russell Wilson trade. He was a product of the specific Seattle system, and he was already in decline on the field while in that system, and his leadership skills were also being questioned. Clearly he wasn't worth the resources he was traded for, and indeed the GM should have been fired too. That one decision alone is gonna ruin four seasons for the Donks.

Reminds me of what Churchill said of Admiral Jellicoe during WWI: "He's the one man on either side who can lose the war in an afternoon". Looks like "George" lost Denver's war for them.

Waitttt a min. Mayo works under Stevo right? Why aren’t teams knocking down the door to interview him? Hmmm, makes no sense (Sarcasm).

please don’t let Mayo walk
Do we actually know that or this just conjecture?

Right on cue:
