So Marshall joins the 10 million club

Denver salvaged what it could for a player who was never comfortable in Denver and who has issues that could lead to suspension. Miami got one of the best wide receivers in the game. The Chicken Littles got to scream about the sky falling and one move for a wideout magically overcoming all that team's other deficiencies and allowing it to leapfrog the Patriots. MoLewisrocks absolutely clowned himself, yet again, this time about the death of a human being.

Interesting thread all around.

Good summary of the posts, Deus.

Nobody can question Marshall's physical abilities, but for those suggesting this guy can single-handedly reverse the fate of an offense played with 11 players last time I checked, why did the Broncos send him packing in the first place? The team most aware of his value is the Broncos, and Marshall's public squawking has been all about the benjamins. In a capless year he walks, why? McDaniels must be a fool not to see what everyone chanting his praises must see. And Miami is obviously giving up on the gimmick and trying to create a brand new offense. No way that effort could fail.

As for the Jets, despite the fact they added identifiable names to the roster, much like the Redskins do every year and win nothing (and it's not like the Jets haven't been adding big names the last 3 years), the Jets should have been 8-8 last year (the Colts unquestionably took a fall by putting a third string QB in, so that is not the typical "woulda, coulda, shoulda" scenario). The organization bounced a decent RB for LT and added Holmes, a player ejected from the Steelers. LT with a rookie QB and a problem receiver - should be interesting.

Will the rookies and second year players coming off injury be enough to win the division for the Pats? The Pats certainly have plenty of questions to answer as does every team at this transitional point of the season. The draft and trades made during the draft go a long way to answer some of those questions.

Frankly, I'll wait and see how the draft pans out before opting for hari kari in lieu of watching the upcoming season. I cannot say paying the price required for any of the big names to date reflects a "can't lose" scenario given the associated baggage and the "what ifs" that have to work out for the best to make the deal look intelligent in the end.

Their defense was never really "together" when Ferguson was in there. If you remember, they actually played better the second game against us when McDaniel was in there. If you had watched any of the games last year, you should know that Porter was not 2008 Porter and both he and Taylor (who somehow managed to keep Wake out of the line-up despite the fact that Wake was an absolute sack machine when in) very much appeared to be on their last legs. Wake is better than either Taylor or Porter of last year at getting to the quarterback. As you said, Wilson was no prize. Having Casper the Friendly Ghost play FS might be a better option than Wilson. Their needs haven't changed. As for NT, like I said watch them attempt to make a play for Mt. Cody in the draft.

First, Wake had 5.5 sacks with 2.5 of them coming against a bad offensive line in Buffalo. It was the only game of the season where he had more than one sack in a game and he only had three other games where he had a sack. He played in all 16 games and registered a tackle in all but four. So calling him a sack machine when he was in is very inaccurate. Five and a half sacks even for a situational pass rusher is not all that impressive.

Second, yes the Dolphins didn't have a great defense before losing Ferguson, but it was worse after he left. So his suspension for the first eight games will hurt them. If he wasn't important to their defense, I doubt Parcells would have him back for eight games.

Third, even if Taylor, Porter, and Wilson weren't great, they were better than what the Dolphins have on their roster now. They may improve those positions in the draft or after, but they haven't yet.

marshall is a perfect complement to bess and camarillo.......this opens things up big time for the dolphins.

they added an impact guy on offense, and one on defense.......good stuff on their part

I agree with most of your points, however this year is considered a great DT draft with 5 NTs expected to go in rounds 1-3 (Williams, Cody, Thomas, Joseph and Troupe). The Dolphins will almost definately be able to get the top rated NT, Dan Williams with the 12th pick.

Maybe I am wrong there. I have always said I am no draft expert. It is my weakest point of my football knowledge (and if you ask some on this board, that is saying a lot since they think football in general is the weakest point of my football knowledge).

Do we ignore that they are trying to trade an impact guy coming off his 2nd knee injury and they have lost there two best OLB's (assuming Taylor doesn't resign)?

Be fair, though....

A lot of people here have been belittling Taylor and Porter as players. Or, to put it another way:

The Patriots are likely to lose a starting OLB this offseason, as most seem to believe that AdT will not be back. Do we just 'ignore' that? Looking at thread after thread about the future of this team, the answer is clearly "Yes".

I don't know.....do we? they are no worse off at OLB than the pats

the concept is simple........any decent passing game could throw on the pats at will last year.......

if the outside pass rush consists of TBC.....opposing QB's will have a field day getting the ball to the newest AFC east WR's

Aren't we due for a losing season?

The passrush needs to be upgraded. Personally, I want a DE, 2 OLBs, and a WR with the first 4 picks.

And nobody can complain that we didn't make a move for him, because trading 2 2nds AND making him the highest paid receiver ever is costly enough, but don't forget about this:

Legal trouble
According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at "The Shelter," a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder. Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall's cousin earlier that night.
On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house. Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.
In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol. A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired. He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.
On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance. The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.
According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded "about 11" calls to Marshall's home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.
A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor's office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond. The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court. On August 14, 2009, a jury in Atlanta found Marshall not guilty.
On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond. The charges were dropped the following day.

This is good news. The Dolphins do gain a weapon on offense but their QB, Henne, is still an unknown factor. I don't see the addition of Marshall as a big enough impact on offense to overcome the Dolphins' inexperience at QB and the deficiencies in their defense.

The Dolphins need both DT and OLB help to stop the run and rush the passer. They can now address only one of those needs after giving up their second round picks.

Marshall will probably be a pain to defend, if he can stay on the field, but as long as he isn't single covered by Wilhite all the time, I think the secondary is up to the challenge as long as the Pats pass rush gets a significant upgrade to give Henne less time to find the open man.

I really don't get it why some fans are giving up on the season already just based on one move.

Anyone questioning the Pats not making a move for him simply needs to look at what it's costing the Dolphins in terms of picks and Benjamins.

Astonishing.

You get draft picks to get players. Marshall is a top 10 receiver and, on the field, is well worth the cost. The question is whether he can conduct himself well enough off the field to remain playing.

Boldin, Holmes, Marshall..... that's now 3 very talented receivers that the Patriots could have gotten without overpaying. Each has some issue(s), but let's not pretend that they weren't good gets for their new teams, or that they aren't great players who could have helped the Patriots a great deal.

I'd rather pretend.

Re: AFC East add ons

Jets: Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, LaDainian Tomlinson
Dolphins: Karlos Dansby, Brandon Marshal
Pats: Marques Murrell, David Pattern, Alge Crumpler, Damion Lewis

But hey, we have 3 2nd round picks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Paris burns, the F.O. fiddles.

Yeah this is frustrating how other teams are picking up quality big name people and we grab a bunch of unknowns that haven't accomplished anything on the field, except for Crumpler. And he's old and injury prone.

I just have a feeling we may be in for another disappointing season.

Remain calm; all is well.

a.) Crumpler is not what I would call injury prone.

b.) They also signed Damione Lewis.

True. But adding Holmes or Marshall to a team that is allegedly already suffering from chemistry and locker room issues is probably not the wisest course of action.

Now Boldin, I'm not so sure where the front office stood on that one.
