$76M guaranteed wow.
Wonder what Trent Williams is thinking. Pats should trade for the beast!

We knew he wouldn't leave a cadillac for a Honda civic.

? He has no say so if the Pats and 9ers were to agree to a trade

His say so would be the same failure to report it is now. No team is making a deal for Williams without him agreeing to report.

Yeah, but if his only reason for failing to report is "not enough money" and the 49ers have an idea of the amount of money he wants, and relay that to the acquiring team, the team can acquire him and get that deal done fairly quickly (theoretically). No reason to think he wouldn't sign.

We dodged a bullet.

Thank god this national nightmare is over.
His agent did a great job! Used other teams to get him the $ he wanted.

No doubt pats will be used like this again many times in near future

If Maye becomes a force and Wolf starts prioritizing offensive line the Pat’s reputation could change overnight.

2 big If’s.
Probably will not happen this season.

Maye better become a force by end of 25 season or Mayo, AVP and Wolfe will be gone

(sigh)

The initial comment and response:

I'd trade a 3rd and take his current contract
My response

Obviously his current contract's value is not getting it done

Not sure what's being taken exception to. Williams isn't reporting to contender SF under his quite subsantial current contract. He sure as hell isn't coming here under the same deal. If a team is coughing up a 2nd or 3rd they're going to want more certainty in return than is provided for by "No reason to think he wouldn't sign." I hate to sound like Andy (the thought of it happening made bile rise in throat) but I don't see what's debatable there

I think we are kind of saying the same thing, I'm just trying to say that SF can probably give an idea of what he'd be looking for to get conversations started and you may be able to make the deal even if that is still ongoing. You can't talk to his agent without SF's permission so you need them as your intermediary first anyway.

I got news for you Brissett is getting three weeks maybe a Month to show he's serviceable. Don't hold your breath on that happening.
4 weeks, whether he is "serviceable" or not, fewer if he is injured.

What I am saying is Williams isn't reporting under the terms of his current contract. He has career earnings in excess of $168M, it isn't like fear of not being able to feed his family is gonna drive him to report. Anyone who thinks it's just a matter of acquiring his contract in trade either simply doesn't know Wiliams' individual circumstances or has their head up their rear. Trent Williams isn't some 2nd year player out of Attsamatt U with no leverage. He's a 14 year vet with 3 years and $74M left on his contract, $30M of it guaranteed and arguably the best OT in the game today. If that $74M isn't motivating him to report to a team as good as San Fran it sure as hell isn't bringing him here ffs

It would take 90 mil with 50-60 guaranteed, imo. and that is surely not happening. Probably more...[

OFC with what we've been reading here any concerns we might have about that many salary cap eggs in a 36 year old basket are unfounded. The Pats could easily accomodate that and still sign 8-9 more starters with their $38M in cap space.

All kidding (and pipe dreams) aside, Williams is the type of player a team deals for when he represents the missing piece to a Super Bowl run

Or this is your left tackle.

If he has no TDs in the 2 weeks. Expect mayo to pull him. I can almost guarantee you.. Wolf asked mayo to let him start the season, and if he starts throwing picks and really looks bad then put maye daye in...

Wooh wee !!, Aiyuk knew what he was doing after all.

He ended up settling for the offer the 49ers gave him 3 weeks ago, so not really. He also pissed off the entire NFL community, including his GM, coach and likely his teammates.
