And lets stop pretending like the Patriots NEVER brought in players for Brady because they did. Moss. Welker. Amendola. Gronk. Hernandez. White. Michel. Etc.
They also went and got Gordon and Brown. Both of whom shot their way out of here.
I looked back on the Patriots drafts over a decade and they expended 4 draft picks total on WRs and TEs in the first 3 rounds over the last 10 drafts.
Harry, Dobson, Taylor Price, Gronk.
If you go back 15 years, it's Brandon Tate, David Thomas, Chad Jackson.
Compare this to a team like the Steelers. They expended 6 first 3 round picks on WRs in the last 7 years. 13 premium picks in the last 15 years, only 2 of them TEs.
The Patriots just don't invest in WRs in the draft. 11 Pitt receivers drafted versus 5 Patriots over that time.
& in the last 7 years, the difference is striking. 6 for Pitt, 2 for the Patriots.
The Steelers by the way strike out almost as often as the Patriots. Sammie Coates, Dri Archer, Martavis Bryant, Markus Wheaton, Limas Sweed, Willie Reid, Fred Gibson.
They just keep at it though. They'll take 2 busts for every Santonio Holmes, Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, Diontae Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington.
Antonio Brown, of course, was a 6th rounder.
I don't think the Patriots expend enough draft capital on offensive weapons. If anything, I'd encourage them to draft more WRs in the 1st and to lay off the Maroney's and Michel's.
