Herbert had an amazing rookie season, I think possibly the best rookie season ever for a QB. I was a huge Herbert fan for the 2020 draft (was a fan before that). I even said before the draft, that I felt when all is said and done, Herbert may wind up the best QB of that 2020 class, better than Tua, better than Burrow. Now, we are only one year in on that draft class, things can change. But I stand by my statement predraft 2020.

I don’t think Mac wins the starting job, but when it’s his time, I have a ton of faith in him.
Flores/Grier taking Tua over Herbert will haunt them and that mistake could eventually cost them their jobs.

Mac sees the field like a QB--a rookie QB--but a QB nonetheless. Were he to play in the regular season, I would expect rookie mistakes but a lot of growth over the course of the season. Next year would potentially be exciting.

Cam sees the field like an athletic Stevie Wonder. If our very good OL faces a 2nd string DL playing vanilla D, Cam will look like he did last night. He will have all day to throw, which is great because he needs all day to throw accurately to the right person. In games when he is facing a talented defensive front who is actually scheming to confuse and pressure the QB (should be most games methinks), Cam will look like last year.**

A deep playoff run is unlikely with a rookie QB, but it would be fun watching him grow for a year. Unfortunately, I think Mac starts sometime around week 7 or 8 at best. Would rather see him start immediately. We should be thrilled either way that our QB of the future looks like a natural. Exciting for the years ahead.

** Cam is a great teammate and a spectacular role model. His press conference apparel is a breath of fresh air and makes me proud as a co-habitant of this green and blue ball floating through space.

BTW, any update anywhere on Josh Uche? Since we haven't heard anything....I assume it's good news?
Actually, history generally suggests that we hear about good Patriot injury news first. The longer we don’t hear about Uche the more concerned I get.

The Cam Compliment Sandwich…

1. He has white teeth.

2. His best days as a QB are far behind him.

3. He’s a great teammate.

You have to really like him as a person, too.
Yeah, I just found out a page or two ago that this is the new, definitely not racist at all, disclaimer. The problem, you see, is that I am a HUGE racist. So I can’t use the new disclaimer.

Ted Johnson with some interesting analysis of Cam . Felger & Mazz Podcast

What does Cams strong night mean
You lost me at “Ted Johnson”. That guy hates Belichick even more than the Tompa Gronka b*tches. Every one of his opinions is colored by that, so I’ve stopped paying attention to anything that he says.

I know his stats were nice and all but he still has a lot to prove. While stars are a good benchmark, you can’t judge QBs by stats alone, because all stats are not created equal. Stats compiled in a win are better than gaudier stats compiled in a loss. It’s not true that best looking stats equals best play because when and how they are built matters (ie game winning drive success or failure vs garbage time stats).
Herbert lost 7 of his first 8 starts and 9 of his first 11. He did win his last 4 but they were against 3 bad teams whose seasons were over and the mahomes-less week 17 chiefs.
Those pretty stats need to produce some wins for me to be sold in Herbert and I can’t consider 6 wins 9 losses to be the best qb play ever by a rookie just because cumulative stats look nice.
Just my opinion

I was somewhat excoriated for my guess regarding Jones not even getting run with the #1s in next week's preseason finale (as I think it's either Newton plays with the ones a series or two OR all the ones sit and it's like the old fourth game used to be and maybe Hoyer plays wire to wire).

Similarly, I would not be shocked if Jones doesnt start this year UNLESS one of the following occurs:

1. Injury to Newton
2. Newton is consistently as horrid as his games against the 49ers, Cardinals, and Donks last year

I'm curious, if EVEN subconsciously, whether the Kosar/Testaverde switch for which BB was savaged for (even though really the right decision) didn't foment a little extra caution/risk aversion in his future. Remember it took Mo Lewis to force the swap to Brady despite signs he would already be a better fit for the turnover-hating Belichick. Last year, he wouldn't even give his backup a start against the Jets despite Newton's significant downward slide at the end of that campaign either. Some say that's the Shula chase (and they may also be right).

Frankly, it's a complete crap shoot. I wouldn't really be surprised if the above is horse pucky either and Jones starts game 1, but just going by what's happened since that fateful veteran/young guy swap in Cleveland I'll stick with Newton, the veteran, at least starting the season as the Patriots QB.

Well Maroneys pretty old now, but he has played in more playoff wins in his life than newton.
Yeah, the bum owes his career to Brady.

Possibly the most ridiculous post of the last few months.
Whats ridiculous is the notion that Mac is stepping in and the Pats are going to the post season.

I can’t see jones sitting out the whole year. He was one of those guys ready to play right from the start like Lawrence.
