Wtf?

Did you forget that Reggie Wayne was drafted in 2003 and that Faulk was on the GSOT on turf in 1999 when they won the Super Bowl? Dwight Freeney was drafted in 2002.
Just going by AI for the question "who was on the Indianapolis Colts' roster in Peyton Manning's second NFL season".

At least I'll be on its good side when they inevitably become our overlords.

Rebuilds generally refer to a new coaching staff with a young roster and a new QB. Not multiple coaching changes over many years. Those are 2 or 3 distinct failed rebuilds. BB post Brady, and hiring Mayo. Since Maye was here last year I will say we are 2 years into the current rebuild, with 2 failed ones post Brady
We are year 1 in the current rebuild.

And even if Faulk wasn't there, it was Edgerrin's first year there.
You know, 2139 combined yards and 17 tds Edgerrin.
You know, HOF Edgerrin.
Pretty good RB.

A player who is oozing with talent but is unable to get (or stay) on the field (in this case, for different reasons).

That is the (relatively obvious) analogy.
You have generalized the analogy so there is little point. Analogies should hold some relevance between the two entities. Oozing with talent is too general to add value. Gordon oozed with talent but was a drug addict. D Easley oozed with talent but didn't have the heart. Ras-I-Dowling oozed with talent but was injured beyond repair. The list can go on endlessly, and any correlation to Gonzo is lost because the analogy has to contain meaningful reference.

I've lost touch a bit over the past year or so, but Gonzo is absolutely one of the most talented DBs in the NFL (even with his inexperience).

If he can't get (and stay) on the field, it'll be moot, but I wouldn't write him off one game into his third NFL season. Give him more time get/stay healthy and (hopefully) play some games. The talent/ability is there in abundance.
OK. Now we're getting somewhere. I'm not writing him off but, I'm genuinely curios as to why someone with 50 tackles and 2 int's in the one year he played a full season is considered one of the most talented DBs in the NFL? I really am. What has he done to warrant the "one of the most talented" label? Was it the 1 sack in his rookie year? The other int to bring his total to 3? I didn't expect Revis Isle,,, But wtf am I missing?

Well considering he was rated the 7th best CB in the NFL by his peers in his second (and only full) season, you appear to be missing quite a bit.

Fighting the urge to resurrect Idle Shots...

Today's post-game drink: Stagg because I like bourbon and I need 120+ proof today

Clearly, he is hearing about taking care of the ball and went into his shell after the pick. Mac went through this and never recovered. The good news is that compared to Mac, Maye has the physical tools to overcome his learning curve. I feel that we need to give him most of this season to get past the yips and unleash his physical tools.

I was there and Patriots fans were almost outnumbered by the Raiders fans. It was a pretty sad statement on a stadium that has a huge STM waiting list - current STM members are dumping tickets.

Maye sucked. His throws were almost all too high or behind the receivers. He missed open receivers and some of his biggest plays were all on the receivers, who made some great catches on underthrown balls.

This D... WTF were they playing? Was it some weird zone where they hand the TE off to an open field? How many wide open TEs do you need to see before you say, "Hmm... maybe we should cover that guy?" And we heard that Peppers was cut because he didn't fit the new scheme? So I guess the new scheme is, "Our safeties can't play"?

I'm serious though... can someone tell us what scheme the pass D was playing? It almost looked like Cover 1 but that would have meant the other safety is covering the TE, but that didn't happen, unless I am wrong.
I noticed A LOT of empty seats. It was jarring.

At this point, I feel that we have more chance at winning games with DeVito at QB than Drake Maye

Yes I am. Most importantly the reason why everyone rates him so highly. I'm no football genius, but i have heard of the emperors new clothes.

You can't win without a passing game. Unfortunately the Patriots also had no running game and our secondary coverage was weak. McDaniels the OC looked more like McDaniels the coach today.
All in all, an absolute garbage game to watch. I had hoped for better. Miami is awful so we could get a win next week, but knowing the Pats they'll make Tua look like the second coming of TB12.

There are a lot of smart football observers commenting in this thread. There are also a lot of dumb ones. I'll let y'all decide which category I'm in, but I'm gonna throw out my 2 cents here.

To those who think Maye is the problem - yes, he had a bad game. But how many series did he play in preseason against first team defenses? 2? Let's not forget he is 22 and learning his 2nd new system in 2 years. He did have more time to throw today and he did miss some open receivers, but let's give him a few more games to get comfortable in this system before we throw him in the trash, okay?

We still don't have a #1 wide receiver. Hunter Henry is our best pass catching option and he is not going to strike terror into the hearts of opposing defenses. Stefan Diggs was pretty much invisible today. Maybe he needs more time to come back from the ACL, but he's not there yet.

Rhamondre was absolutely mediocre today, I agree with those who said that. On the other hand, when the Raiders ran the ball I saw big holes in our defense for them to run through. I didn't see that today when we ran the ball. Remember we have two rookies on the left side of the o-line - it's going to take them some time to get used to the speed and ferocity of the NFL game. Henderson had some flashes, but they were small flashes. No big plays.

On defense, it seemed we missed a lot of tackles and were out of position a lot. That's not so much a lack of talent but rather a lack of discipline and/or comfort in what the coaches are coaching.

Hell, I was one of those who thought we'd be a LOT better than we were today, and maybe win as many as 10 games this year. Now I feel silly for thinking that, but as they say, "things are never as good as they seem when they're going good, but they are never as bad as they seem when they're going bad." Right now they're going bad, but let's give this team at least six weeks to get the wrinkles ironed out before we "abandon all hope."
