So what part of Engram is better than Gronk? Receiving, 3rd down and RZ receiving, downfield receiving, blocking - they are not the same player .... for sure.

the part where he’s not retired?

I will say if they are looking for the next Gronk, many of us will be dead before they find him

Engram may be a little more elusive.

That's about it

Newhouse was below average. On one of the running plays, he was supposed to have backside contain, yet it was his man that knifed right by him to make the stop at the O-line. On another play, he failed to pick up the twist and his man had a free shot on Brady..

I don't know what deal is with Cannon or Mason. Both have had major issues this season with the bullrush. One of the sacks was specifically because Cannon was walked back into the pocket and tossed aside.. The last time I remember that happening was when he was a rookie having recovered from Cancer..

One thing I noticed about Brady is that he seemed to be waiting a lot for the plays to develop. They moved the ball best when they were going with the quick hits..
I think cannon is trying to compensate for Mason.

Good to see the german out there leading the blocks and even catching a pass. Hope he works out like the former germans did.

Been watching Patriots football intently since 2010. I didn't see much of the 2000 era, just wasn't into football much back then. So I've never really seen the Patriots field a nasty D. It's actually pretty damn cool. As an added bonus, the only jerseys I have are all on the team again - Gilmore, Collins (91 from first stint), and Hightower. And they're all doing fantastic.

What are the chances?

we've always had great players...it's the coaching that was an embarrassing exercise in futility over the decades. BB changed all that..and I consider Parcells a scumbag for what he did to US, the faithful lifelong Patriot fans.

Precisely.
Sure, it's worth noting we haven't played 5 greatest shows on turf, however, even middling to worse pro offenses are not consistently held to =<7 per game for 5 weeks by accident. When your D can rush the passer with some consistency, stop the run with some consistency, and even completed passes are mostly competitively defensed, that simply is going to be difficult for almost any offense to sustain drives that require converting multiple third downs.

The D may lay an egg on a play or drive (like AP's run today) but until DC's figure out something BB and staff don't know or have covered up well so far, multiple sustained drives against this D will be a tough road to hoe for most.
The thing that I like about the defensive performances is internally, they're building momentum and belief where externally, they're beginning to build the fear factor. Psychological intimidation counts for a lot.

Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett reportedly 'OK' after leaving win over Redskins with hamstring injury

The Patriots will leave D.C. with a 33-7 win over the Redskins, but they did not escape without more injury concerns.

Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett had to leave the game in the first quarter at FedEx Field on Sunday with what the team called a hamstring injury. He was later ruled out. But according to NESN's Doug Kyed, the early indication is that Dorsett is "OK", meaning he probably avoided something significant...

From will Dorsett be re-signed, to maybe he will not make the 53, to we! need! Dorsett! healthy!! Man the times, they are always changin
“He’s an integral part of our offense”

—Is what I catch myself saying when our diva WRs leave due to sexual misconduct allegations, our first round picks are hurt, and our SB MVP receivers have rib injuries.

I was encouraged by the two wham blocks from Thuney and Izzo in the second half, both of which sprung Michel for big yardage. Lacosse also had a good block on the second Michel run and the seal on both runs was beautiful.

TEs blocked better in the second half and caught 3 passes in the game. Izzo’s first catch was tough, but if TE can be an option like it was today, Ds at least have to account for them, making it a bit easier to throw the football elsewhere.

And he finally got the Skins to fire him so he can keep some of the money. Good on Gruden to be free of that ****stain of an organisation.

The 2nd half offensive performance is something to build on. But the left tackle spot is still a concern.

I've run out of great things to say about this defense. Simply amazing.

Wynn will come back.

Much more concerning are Cannon, Mason and Karras.

The day we need a healthy Dorsett is the day we are totally screwed

The defense has really given up 20 points in 5 games (and 23 in 6 counting the SB). I know the 5 opponents this year are not offensive juggernauts, but in today’s NFL that is mind-blowing.

That is mind-blowing... but again, I just wonder how bad these bad teams are (i.e., how much better are the good ones,) and over 19 games, how consistent the observed play is (i.e., if we call the difference between bad and good a tripling at most, that yields 12 defensive given-up vs. good teams. Then you add 2 "bad bounce" touchdowns for a fairly bad "bad bounce" game... that should still be well within the Pats' ability to cover. But how much variability is there in the baseline 4 points, tripled, for the good teams? Is the 4 a real number, or a 5 game number? Or a "cliff effect" number where this D will be really good at tuning up weak teams, then mortal against good ones?)

Idle thoughts.

The offense is obviously a concern right now.

The passing game isn't explosive, the OL is a problem in both run and pass, Brady is making stupid decisions.

I'm not holding my breath that this passing game will be great all year, decent is what my expectation and hope is.

We need to get the run game going and thus the OL. If that gets figured out we should be okay.
