Even if they end up around 7th or 8th they can still turn things around. Draft Marvin Harrison Jr and then get JJ McCarthy or someone of his tier later.

I first heard the name JJ McCarthy from a gentleman sitting next to me at a bar a week or so ago. He was talking him up a lot. Yes, the Pats can turn it around but they need to hit on a lot of draft picks and FAs.

The first narrative is mostly true, though. It’s what most people understood when he was drafted. And it’s exactly what the Patriots didn’t do. Ask the defensive players who have played against the Pats. They don’t really have to worry about anyone.

He makes bad decisions. A lot of QBs do. The problem is he can’t make up for those bad decisions by utilizing his own or his teammates’ playmaking skills. That’s because they basically don’t exist.

Good to elite QBs keep their bad decisions to a minimum and make plays regardless of the talent level around them. If the talent is lacking they just won't have gaudy numbers.

It's obvious Mac makes more bad decisions and is accurate than most.

Have I just not noticed when it happens, or does nobody ever get fired on BB's staff? Guys move on to get fired elsewhere, sometimes a contract isn't renewed, and one or two guys were let go for refusing the vax, but nobody gets fired for performance reasons. A guy like Achord would have been relieved of his duties 3 years ago anywhere else.

Or does it happen same as any other franchise and it just flies under my radar?

I think everything is so secretive with the Pats that it's hard to tell what's going on, but I think the OL coach that first replaced Dante got released.

I agree but I believe @Ross12 was referring to Sean McDermott in Buffalo. It’s one thing for us to miss the playoffs since our window hasn’t opened yet. The Bills window is open now and they should be winning now no excuses to miss the playoffs. They made the AFCCG and then 13 seconds… and they’ve regressed since. Something isn’t right with that offense and if they don’t figure it out he’s in trouble I think.

I'm glad during the intentional safety game that Brady got that 3 and out on 3 incomplete passes on purpose backed up against his EZ so that he could do the safety himself, kick a booming kick down the field with that GOAT leg, and stop the Broncos with his mind from the sideline. All him. Amazing.

Yes, Brady was amazing, but he had a lot of help back then from the draft picks made before Bill arrived.
Luckily, Bill was wise enough to see that Brady was done in 2020 and had Cant Newton waiting in the wings.

Its always the same story why the Pats lose.

Washington had the ball for approximately 15 more minutes than NE. The Pats only converted 25% of 3rd downs 3 of 12. The Pats defense gets beaten down because they are always on the field. Towards the end of the game when the NE defense was tired did Terry McLaurin begin to do damage.

Of course. He’s mostly throwing to (WR/TE) and behind (OL) mediocrity. That leads to bad decisions and inaccuracy.

That’s not to say he’s blameless. I think his biggest problem is he lacks moxy. He’s basically an average NFL QB with a bad supporting cast.

Rex Ryan got blamed for not developing Mark Sánchez and not being more involved the Jets offense.

Bottom line is that you cant turn 5hit into gold. Go on and fire BB, but Jones will always be a waterboy in the big leagues.

The BS narrative is, "Mac needs talent around him to bring the most out of his ability as a QB" is garbage.

The real narrative is, "Mac needs guys who make exceptional catches because he is not accurate in space and makes bad decisions"

Right, that's the part people are missing. It wasn't 3rd or 4th down with 5 seconds left. It was 2nd down at around the opponents' 40 yard line with 30 seconds left and you're only down 3. Not panic time. If you don't like it then throw it away for ****'s sake.

This is just hindsight getting the better of everyone. QB's routinely make throws like that on any down if they are confidant they can make the throw. You don't pass up an opportunity in under two minutes in a comeback drive because of what down it is. That's stupid. So what we can end up in 3rd and long and all complain again that we wasted two downs and got in a ****ty 3rd down situation again like we always do?

Bottomline WR should have caught that. They suck and are too inconsistant on plays just like that and it's a big reason why we lose these games. If you can't rely on your WR's to make tight catches when the QB gets the ball to them in a spot they should absolutely catch it, then you already have a flaw you can't overcome and it's a waste of time.

People already cry enough when Mac doesn't take shots and throws the ball away and we end up in bad down and distance situations. So now we all have to cry when the opposite happens because we can't trust our receivers? At some point we just have to say the team stinks and either option isn't likely to succeed. We play conservative and then we can't convert on crucial downs. We play aggressive and the talent can rise to it and mistakes happen. Either way the outcome is the same

Because we reached the point where now instead of complaining that he's playing too conservative and getting jittery on anything that's not safe that when he makes an aggressive play and makes a good throw but because the receivers suck.... we are going to say it's his fault for trying to win and making a good throw.

I'll let you all in on a little secret. The good QB's in this league, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow etc.... they would all read that play and try to make that throw and they'd more likely than not throw it in that exact same spot in that situation because it was the best play to move forward on a 2 minute comeback drive. The receiver here (unlike their receivers) still would have screwed it up.

That doesn't absolve Mac of all his other faults. But people just want to blame him for everything even when he objectively makes a good throw because our receivers aren't competent enough to haul it in so we start overthinking and saying "well it wasn't really the right time in the game blah blah". It's a two minute drive behind in the 4th quarter. Every team plays aggressive and makes harder throws in those situations. It's when you rely on talent to out execute. All the good teams make their money off that. If our players can't do that, then you have your answer for why this team can't win these games.
