Edelman is the go to guy. There should be no confusion on that point.
Very enjoyable game to watch!
I took away the following:
For a team that lost so many coaches this offseason, I've never seen such a well prepared Pats team in Game One of the pre-season. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing!
Mayo looked totally in command on the sideline. Is he the de facto DC for 2019?
The Pats depth is way better than Detroit's! Way better!
It's early, but I think Stidham is already ahead of where Garoppolo was at this stage.
This Defense is going to be scary!
I think the snap counts and when they occured tell you the story of who is ahead in the WR competition.
Edelman and Harry are obvious locks. Dorsett only played 1-2 series (12 snaps) before getting the rest of the day off which implies he is firmly cemented in as WR3. The other three (Berrios ~ 40 snaps, Meyers ~40 snaps and Harris ~59 snaps) are fighting for the other 2 spots with Inman (20 late snaps) and rest on the outside looking in.
Again I think it is pretty obvious how most of the spots will shake out with 1 out of Berris, Meyers and Harris losing out. That is until Meredith, DT and Gordon become available (if they become available).
If they win 8 or more games I think he definitely coaches them next year.
If they win 6/7 games but there's a major injury he might get one more year depending on how much the Lions brass thinks he's making the right culture changes.
If they win less games than last year he's probably on the hot seat. A lot of it also depends on how they lose those games, obviously.
Absolutely, Edelman slaughters zone D. I'm saying that we lost our best outside one on one receiver. Harry looks like he will be the one to try to fill that role. Edelman can't be that dominant receiver on the outside.
Pretty legit on 24 snaps. Should be getting more time with the 1s and 2s soon.
I see. Yea we gotta see how that develops.
Sooo, let’s see....that should equate to about 177 sacks over a 16 game season
The Winovich pick really made the draft for me. So glad we have him and he is progressing well.
And, once again, Gronk was not available to play.
It’s funny the lengths BB will go to deny someone is the defensive coordinator. I have to think there is method to his madness (avoiding pressure, wanting to take the heat for inexperienced coaches...) but I still find it very curious.
IF Mayo is calling plays, I feel confident that he is (1) smart enough (2) tough enough (3) “big boy” enough to claim the title.
Doesn’t make a difference, in the end, but I find it a bit drôle.
It’s odd. Hoping he kicks ass the rest of the way and given the title but after Flores didn’t get it for an entire season, not so sure he will.
He certainly has his own unique standard of determining whether or not someone has earned the title of DC or OC. IIRC Patricia was "LB coach" in 2010 and 2011 before officially named DC in 2012. Clearly there was a set of criteria/readiness Fat Matt needed to achieve /prove to BB before being granted the title. I also think he does this to protect the assistant from the unfair scrutiny that comes with being a DC.
But yea, he didn't even answer Curran's seemingly innocuous, "Was he calling plays?" question. Hes cagy.
We cannot rely on those young men until they actually suit up. A bird in the hand is > 100 in the air.
I was musing about the fact that lots of times the Pats only carry 2 QBs, and if they had to let one go, because they need a roster spot or cap room, based on last night's performance, it would be hard to choose which one to let go. Your point, I surmise, is you expect the Pats to keep 3 QBs?
It's going to be interesting to see what Edelmen's Red Zone numbers are like this year. Will they be up? Or will we see more TDs from Michel, Harris, and Company than we've seen since Dillon..
Who was the last person that BB gave the either the OC or DC title too without them spending a year earning it?
Anybody who thinks this team will suck when brady leaves is sadly mistaken. They will continue to be a fundamentally sound competitive football team as long as BB is coaching this team.
I think the excessive runs had more to do with evaluating the second layer of O-linemen. With Burkhead, White, Michel, Harris not playing Boldin certainly took a good percentage of the carries
People seem to forget that there were plenty of years that BB carried 3 QBs on the roster 2000-2008. Most recently in 2016 when they had Brissette and Garrapolo. Granted it was also because of Brady's suspension, but I think we'd have seen both on the roster regardless.
