Yep, wrong decision by Mac & Phatt Matt... Under-thrown pass by Mac, should've been placed closer to the corner of the EZ... The DPI would've looked even more egregious if it had been... and Parker didn't fight for the ball as he needed to do...

Why is Matty P wrong? It's not just you there is way to much lazy criticism of Judge and Patricia going on and it's just lame to pile onto the off-season narrative when we now have film. If you don't like something Matty P judge or Bill do now I think you should be able to back it up.

He called a pass play and got a 1 and 1 match up for his number 1 receiver and Jaannu was able to get wide open. Seems like the call was fine to me. If not good. Gotta execute.

I don't even Mind not getting to Jaannu in his progressions. If you like the 1 on 1 shot you take it and don't look elsewhere first. Just don't throw the ball off the defenders head. Should have lead him to the back corner but he just under threw it.

I guess I fail to see the problem with a play call in the high red zone (or near it), where the first look is, "Do I have a good 1-on-1 matchup for a TD" followed by shorter options, one of which was open. Just because Mac either didn't read the matchup right, or physically missed the throw, doesn't make the playcall bad.

1. The Patriots’ much-discussed new offense unveiled a vanilla look in Miami. Amid questions about how they’d line up, the personnel they’d use and the scheme changes we might see, Matt Patricia and Joe Judge’s unit was — well — boring.

They used only two personnel groupings in the entire game, running 28 plays out of 11 personnel (one running back, one tight end) and 26 plays out of 12 personnel. They never had four wide receivers on the field at the same time. They did not run a single run-pass option. They used play action on just 8 percent of their early-down dropbacks, the lowest rate in the league.

2. The baseline offensive statistics weren’t horrific: 5.0 yards per play, 4-for-9 on third down, more than 7 yards per pass. But the underlying advanced stats reveal something much more concerning.

With “Monday Night Football” still pending, the Patriots had the third-worst offense in the league in Week 1, finishing Sunday with an EPA/play of minus-0.2. Only the Rams and Cowboys had worse figures. (In 2021, for comparison, the Patriots’ EPA/play was 0.05, good for 11th in the NFL.)

Much was made of the Patriots’ running game in the buildup to Week 1. Despite struggling in training camp, Rhamondre Stevenson had preached confidence in the unit and the run blocking.

But Sunday’s opener was a putrid outing for the running game. The Patriots rushed for zero or negative yards on 36 percent of their carries, the most in the league. By comparison, the league average for that figure Sunday was 18 percent.

Interestingly, the Patriots were much more effective running to the right side (4.8 yards per carry) than the left (3.2 yards per carry), which perhaps speaks to some of rookie Cole Strange’s struggles in run blocking.

3. That said, Strange was the team’s best offensive lineman in pass protection, not allowing a single pressure on 29 passing snaps.

Still, it wasn’t a good performance from the O-line, which forced Jones to get rid of the ball quickly: in 2.34 seconds on average. Only Tom Brady threw it faster than Jones in Week 1.

Jones had only one pass that required more than three seconds of pass protection, the fewest in the NFL on Sunday.

6. One of the Patriots’ best players of 2021 sat on the bench until the fourth quarter. When receiver Kendrick Bourne finally got onto the field, he promptly hauled in a 41-yard reception, the team’s longest of the day. Then Bourne was summoned back to the bench.

The whole situation is … odd. How did Bourne go from being the team’s second-leading receiver last season to being behind a practice squad player on the depth chart? Lil’Jordan Humphrey, elevated from the practice squad, received more snaps (3) than Bourne (2).

7. That brings us to DeVante Parker, the team’s new No. 1 wide receiver as evidenced by the fact that he was the only one at the position who never came off the field.

But it was an entirely underwhelming debut for the receiver the Patriots traded for in the offseason, hopeful that he’d develop into a weapon for Jones. Instead, Parker received only two targets and turned them into one catch for 9 yards.

He was well covered (and maybe interfered with) on his other target, a pass on the opening drive that was deflected by Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard and resulted in an interception.

Parker’s game isn’t built around separating from cornerbacks but instead making contested catches with them in his face. For Jones to feel confident going back to him, that was the type of pass he needed to come down with — even if there was hand-fighting going on.

8. On the surface, the defensive numbers for the Patriots weren’t bad. They only allowed 13 points (the Dolphins’ other seven came via a strip-sack). They had three sacks.

But the underlying numbers were more concerning. The Patriots ranked 18th in defensive EPA/play in Week 1 and 22nd in EPA/dropback.

9. Looking for a positive after that loss? Start with Deatrich Wise. After an impressive offseason, Wise was the Patriots’ most dominant pass rusher Sunday, notching a sack and a quarterback hit. The Patriots needed someone to step up and take some of the pressure off Matthew Judon. If Wise can keep playing like that, they could form a dominant pass-rushing duo.

It was egregious DPI that wasn't called, and not only did it rob the Pats of a 1st and goal at the 1, it literally resulted in a turnover and led to 3 points for Miami.

Well last I checked Sleepy Parker has two hands throw the other hand up only one hand was impeded. Parker slept on that play like he did the entire game I see why Miami isn't worried trading him within the division.
