I guess I should've known the rebuild was going to be like this but...

We're bemoaning the lack of Ted Karras? Shaq Mason? and K Bourne?

Seriously?

Karras could not run or pull or trap. He was manhandled on many occasions. Last night, he almost got Joe Burrow killed.

Shaq could do all of those things, but he can't pass block (ask Brady how he feels about Shaq after last night).

K Bourne is a really good... #3 receiver... who has ginned up an attitude problem, apparently.

Are we really bemoaning the fact that these 3 did not play for the Patriots last night?
I agree about Karras, never thought much of him, but Shaq would be our best o-linemen. Not the best at pass blocking but one of the best in the league run blocking. We downgraded when we traded him. Bourne isn't great, but on the Pats he's one of the better ones, and for some reason he played 2 snaps. Are we good enough to bury him unless it was a very serious offence? If it was something serious either suspend him or trade him, but if he's on the gameday roster there's no point to have sit on the bench.

Mason struggled last year for us and was beaten regularly in pass blocking. Anyone who thinks otherwise, wasn't watching our games at all.
Yes, and he was also one of the best run blocking guards in the league. If he was on the team he'd be our best o-lineman.

Vagiants actually deserved to lose that game; but Wide Right and other Un-forced errors...
Nobody would be talking about that game had they made a routine kick.
Ditto for the 2007 Pats had Eli not scored the game winning drive.

I guess a web page rated him as 1/17th of some made-up metric better at "getting separation," and that's your proof. And that 1/17th better on the randometric du jour from some fantasy site equates to 22 places on their fantasy rankings of separation getting?

You're looking for "than" in that last sentence, not "then." Don't complain, if I tell you that on the clock it costs money.

You've got some real metrics, some made up fantasy metrics, I am sure your own personal "eye test," and so on. I get your passion about him only getting 2 snaps too -- that's the product of some drama I'm not privy to, it looks like. But then, did you want to sit Parker? Agholor?

Bourne is very much like meyers is my point. He runs slightly slower, but they're cut from the same cloth by that metric (4.63 vs. 4..68.. they are receivers/football players, not burners). His made-up metric on separation seems to put him so close the irony is overwhelming... I mean, it's a metric on separation.

They are both reliable weapons for Mac Jones and he has good rapport with both of them.

Mac kept choosing to throw the ball to Meyers though, not to Bourne, last season. He just kept missing how open Bourne was I guess.
Or, Bourne kept being his second look, and Meyers his first look, the way the play was drawn up? So then the fault is not in his stars but in himself, that he is, comparatively, an underling?

Your complaint about him sitting for all but 2 plays is officially explained as "welp, that's just how it worked out."

I think the whole present crop of receivers that made the 53 has a tantalizing possibility of more speed on the field. Parker, Agholor, and the rookie Thornton all run in the 4.4s or below -- in Thornton's case, way below.

Bourne and Meyers were both "reliable guys" in a season where they are apparently looking for more speed.

Meyers continued to flourish in camp. Bourne did not. I don't know why. Maybe you do. Bourne had trouble getting on the field. I don't know why. Maybe you do.

There was room for Parker, Agholor, and one of the two old reliables. Perhaps Meyers did or does something that pleases his bosses whereas Bourne is not doing it. I don't know. Maybe you do.

I do know that the cup runneth over this year, comparatively, at wide receiver. It is possible that, like you, Bourne estimates his value differently from how the Pats' coaching staff estimates it. It is possible that they don't think they can go out there with two slow old reliables out of the three guys on the field (or out of the two guys out on the field).

I didn't tell them to play their new pickup, Parker, and I didn't tell them to rehab Agholor, and I didn't tell them to favor Meyers over Bourne in terms of the apparent move toward speed that might have left us one slow reliable and two speedier options as the default - or at least, did this week.

I just marvel at guys who get frustrated when the fantasy site says player A is better than player B, there's not a whole lot of, ahem, separation between the two, and they want to go to war over which 800ish yard receiver to put on the field. Dude Bourne is a goodish, number twoish guy. Meyers is a goodish, number twoish guy. I'll repeat again, he was the ONLY Patriot that could catch anything from Cam freakin Newton. FWIW.

If I had to guess I'd say he isn't "getting" the direction the organization is going, and the coaching staff isn't happy with having attitude issues among the footsoldiers. And we all know that once you get identified as that guy, it can last a while

Okay so just so I'm clear before i add you to my ignore list:

I said Bourne should be playing more

You said Why can't he get more separation then myers

I provided statistics that show he actually does get more separation then myers.

And you're retort is "it's made up" and it's only 1/17th better.

I just want to be sure before I make sure i can never see another one of your pointless posts again, that you're one of those types of people who likes to make a claim, gets proven wrong, and then instead of learning and growing as a human, says "let's move the goal posts because i can't possibly be wrong"

Thank you for saying this.

Most posters on this forum are very kind. But there are a few (like the one you responded to) that are cruel for no reason. I don’t troll. I was here during the game defending the Patriots from that awful non-PI call. I just come to talk football. So I try to ignore them.

Showing up on a division rival‘s forum and using what is very likely your own burner account to create a contrived chemistry with a (joke of a) poster here, and then arguing that people are being unfairly cruel by rejecting your presence, is some backwards, condescending, self-centered bullsh*t.

I know most of us are trying to find silver linings. I realize 1 game doesn't necessarily mean that much especially when it's the first game. Weve had very bad 1st games before.. I realize it's a marathon. I realize it's what happens after Thanksgiving is the thing that matters the most. I realize we're discovering what works and what doesn't is part of the learning curve. But to be honest, going back to the mid season winning streak last year when we were the number 1 seed I haven't acrually witnessed very much to be very hopeful. We need to see better play out in a game. Not on paper, not what was possible in other years, not how other teams have figured it out. All that shows its possible to get better. But until we get better we're not better. A better outcome win or lose on Pittsburg will make me a lot more optimistic. We've had a bad stretch of games. The Patriots need to get a swagger back. I need to get a fan swagger back. Its hard to talk smack back at trolls when they come over here. I'd rather rub it in when we're better than they are now, not when we were better than them before. I know this rant is a pretty lousy resume for a motivational speaker job but we need to start getting better now. I'm too damn old to have to wait as long as some fan bases have(take that Bills fans!) to be good again. Let's get back to the playoffs and win.....this year please.

this is the ****e that happens in miami

Gifted ball going right to McCourty and Myles Bryant happens. McCourty gets that I think he's taking it a bit closer to midfield

and then you got miami getting the lucky bounces on fumbles

I disagree about Shaq. I watched him last night. Tremendous run blocker. He was a turnstyle pass blocking. I bet Onwenu is an upgrade.

Agree about Bourne, but I'm just saying, this is not a situation where we have a disgruntled top guy. He's marginally better than Jakobi, if that.

And such players should not be denigrating guys like Algholor for fumbling.

Gifted ball going right to McCourt and Myles Bryant happens. IMO don't be surprised to see Wade, Bledsoe or Ja. Jones in for Bryant next week. Maybe even M. Jones.

The bounces on the fumbles was crazy. We saw timely plays like that yesterday and just didn’t come up with them. So frustrating.

There are snowflakes in Buffalo, the city is actually renowned for them

I wouldn't say they were better prepared, but they definitely executed better. The defense held the Dolphins to 13 points and they lost the turnover battle, which was big - and that fact definitely played a significant role in the outcome. If they finish that first drive and don't lose the ball on the strip sack, that changes everything. Instead, the Dolphins made a couple of good plays, so give them credit.

Not to mention holding out Bourne, which was awful because it left Meyers alone to work the middle of the field and Jones didn't really have the time to get the ball down the field on the perimeter. Parker isn't an inside quick guy, that's not his thing. I get that there's something going on there and it was for disciplinary reasons, but they don't have the luxury right now to endure that beyond this past Sunday. Pittsburgh's secondary looked tough, and they'll need all the help they can get this weekend.
If you are prepared for something that you think is going to happen, you are ready for it. Which means you'll execute better.

Belichick said the use of Bourne was not disciplinary. He gave similar answers as the Butler benching:

Q. It didn’t look like Kendrick Bourne got in the game until the very end. Was there a reason that he wasn’t playing?

Belichick: “No, it just worked out that way.”

Q. He came in and immediately caught a 40-yard pass. In retrospect, should you have played him more today?

Belichick: “We did what we thought was best.”

Q. Was it disciplinary?

Belichick: “No.”

Q. He just told us that he’s not giving the coaching staff what they need to see. What do you need to see from him to get in the game more?

Belichick: “We talk to all the players. We just all need to do a better job, obviously, coaches, players. We just all need to perform better. So we’ll work on that.”

throwing an interception in the end zone and giving up points doesn't help and when you're driving and fumble, it's not going to be pretty. I thought we did some good things offensively yesterday, but have to cut down on turnovers.

The two calls I don't like that come to mind are 2nd and 17 and they run (As Pat fans, when have we ever seen that play work) and the 3rd and 3 and they run Montgomery up the middle for no gain. I know these are 2nd guesses, which I hate, but me and the family were all scratching our heads as they were happening in real time.

In the end, as BB says, we have to play better.
Not sure Mac should have thrown that ball to Parker, but he was expecting Parker to do his contested catch thing but couldn't because he was clearly held while the ball was in the air. Should have been 1st and goal at the 1.

Ignore away, Chasa Khan. Your establishment of a fantasy site that puts one guy's separation at 1.6 and another guy's at 1.7... without identifying the "units," if there are any, is really only impressing you. Well, maybe these guys too. Don't care. You're a troll. Go away now.

Interesting listening to Zo today. He hated that pass to Parker that was intercepted. He agreed it was PI but said it was an underthrown ball that didn’t have much chance at being completed. He also questioned a lot of the play calling, particularly the outside zone runs and the 3rd and 4 run up the middle when they needed a 1st.

It was a downer but I was kind of feeling it "in the air." I think they know the O Line isn't doing it yet. But nobody's panicking.

That said, you don't get 2 Ws for wins after Thanksgiving. This is definitely not a year where they've got the pedal to the metal thinking 17-0 or HFA. They're trying to do the reboot. In NE, that probably means they want to peak late, make it into the playoffs, and be ready once they get there. I really want the Pittsburgh win, but I am psychologically resigned to a really dreary September, if that happens. (Hope not.)

Given how people felt about him yesterday, print this T-shirt up now. It'll outsell "The Butler Did It."

Did strange go back in or was it ferentz at lg for the rest of the game when strange was benched?

Ferentz only played like 7 snaps. Strange was not benched. Where did you hear that? Just making things up?

Wait, so you think that a team losing the TO battle 3-0 is a team that's better prepared because that's what my post said. McDaniel's team was better prepared. Clearly.
Dude,

Can you stop with all of the "gotcha" posts? It is tiring. Add something constructive.

After strange gave up a sack he had gone out and people in the thread were mentioning he was benched. And the whole timing of it happening right after he missed an assignment … Why would i make it up? Relax man
