Yea, a bunch of fans are being delusional and selective in their memory of the past.
It is clear that Bill decided to change the offensive schemes to incorporate more outside zone blocking and vertical passes to challenge what the defenses were doing against Mac. Where's the evidence?
1. Traded for Parker, a 50/50 deep ball threat.
2. Drafted Strange (ozb) and Thornton (go routes).
3. Drafted Strong (ozb) and Marcus (fast gadget O plays).
4. Eliminated FB.
5. Incorporated more OZB schemes, RPO, and vertical passes.
6. Mac was ALL IN on this approach. He said so. He likes the shotgun, so more shotgun. He likes the rpo, so more rpo. He likes to fling it, so more vertical passes.
Results: a f*cking disaster with Mac turning the ball over 6 times in 3 games and a 1-2 record. Mac's ratings: 87.2, 79.7, 62.1
After Mac comes back from his injury, Bill puts the choke collar back on and the TOs drop dramatically but so do the Yds per attempt. They wanted Mac to succeed. They tried to give him weapons and schemes HE likes. He failed. They no longer trust him. It is what it is.
