Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Bengals beat the Pats

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Yeah I can promise you I believed you can count. But it was a simple way to a win, and about things this team could control that could not be blamed on Mac, hence the silence from some.
Sorry I missed your point Folk is a way bigger problem than Mac. Just need a new kicker and Mac will get better.

I am guessing he is a smart guy which can sometimes create an issue if the person overthinks things. He needs to read and react, not stop to think or anticipate. Hopefully he speeds up a bit more each game.

Changing the offense . . . might have led to overthinking.

Mac Jones wasn’t the problem in the Bills playoff game.

This year the offensive changes have made just about everybody worse.

Maybe they changed in a non-constructive way, but they had to change. Mac was not the problem in the Bills playoff game but by objective standards he was not good - his QB rating was 75.8 - Mac's rating for the 2022 season is 84.6, so he was worse in the 2021 playoff game than in 2022, so something had to change. In the last 5 games of 2021, defenses started playing the Pats differently and the Pats success plummeted. The offense had to change.

The change from functional to non-functional was certainly something.

The change was to add talent, not install Patricia as de facto OC. I don’t see how anyone can dispute that.

Mac’s playoff game rating was mediocre because the Bills were much better for multiple reasons. One was a pathetic defense that gave up TDs on every possession. No one played or coached well on either side of the ball. In fact, Mac had a pretty decent first half.

We had to add talent and change the offensive scheme. I don't see how anyone can dispute that. Stats don't lie.

I agree with all that. But Mac was not good for the last 5 to 7 games last year as well. I am not anti-Mac, but the stats do not lie. About game 10 or 12 last year, the opposing defenses changed and crowded the line taking away the short passing and running game. After that, Mac's efficiency went down. The Pats could not keep the same offensive approach coming into 2022.

It seems like posters believe if they admit the offensive philosophy had to change, they are endorsing Patricia. I am not sure why it is hard to juggle that 1. the offensive scheme had to change, and 2. since the Pats changed it, things have not gone well. We can not go back to the 2021 offensive approach AND have to have a different offensive approach than 2022's scheme.

Yea, a bunch of fans are being delusional and selective in their memory of the past.

It is clear that Bill decided to change the offensive schemes to incorporate more outside zone blocking and vertical passes to challenge what the defenses were doing against Mac. Where's the evidence?

1. Traded for Parker, a 50/50 deep ball threat.
2. Drafted Strange (ozb) and Thornton (go routes).
3. Drafted Strong (ozb) and Marcus (fast gadget O plays).
4. Eliminated FB.
5. Incorporated more OZB schemes, RPO, and vertical passes.
6. Mac was ALL IN on this approach. He said so. He likes the shotgun, so more shotgun. He likes the rpo, so more rpo. He likes to fling it, so more vertical passes.

Results: a f*cking disaster with Mac turning the ball over 6 times in 3 games and a 1-2 record. Mac's ratings: 87.2, 79.7, 62.1

After Mac comes back from his injury, Bill puts the choke collar back on and the TOs drop dramatically but so do the Yds per attempt. They wanted Mac to succeed. They tried to give him weapons and schemes HE likes. He failed. They no longer trust him. It is what it is.

Yes, but it's not like they got him elite talent. Parker doesn't separate and has been mediocre at best. Strange is a bad pick for the first round. And to top it all off we got 2 incompetent boobs running a new offence. The demise of the offence is more on Belichick then it is Mac. Belichick brought in the boobs, Belichick picks the groceries. It's on him.

Not sure where you're getting that from, but it runs counter to essentially all reporting and common sense.
I'm getting it from reading what Mac said during TC and beginning of the season. Obviously, things changed after the CHI game.

Yea, can't disagree with you here. This is 100% on Belichick. He's more responsible than Mac, Patricia and Judge combined.

Dude, come on....

He was lying. Everyone knew he was lying. The reporters made it clear he was lying.

They absolutely did not have to change.

I disagree.

They'd have been much better off had they not done so.

You might be right. We will see. It usually takes a few years to adjust, even if we change the OC, so if the offense is still bad at the end of 2023 I will agree with you.

Great post. I am not sure why you say "They no longer trust him." Is there an article or source, or your own speculation? I agree they definitely throttled Mac back after all of the turnovers, but I see no reason why that means Mac lost the coaches' trust. QB's commonly take 3 years to blossom, so maybe we have to wait another year (hopefully with a new OC) for Mac to emerge and the coaches are waiting too (waiting is different than a lack of trust).

Yea, speculation based on the change in direction. Bill saying he couldn't make the Hail Mary throw kinda reinforced it. Though they did seem to cut him loose in the 2nd half vs CIN. Maybe there's another change in direction against MIA. I'm wanting to see him carry this team down the field for multiple scores on Sunday. Please surprise me Mac and ball out.

Of late I think Mac's been able to go deep a little more and without the turnovers like the first few weeks. This might be coincidental like the one that hit Parkers helmet and wound up an int compared to the one that Scotty Washington should of caught that bounced to Jacoby for a score anyway. But I choose to accept this as one of the few things that we can say Mac might have actually improved at.
