You do know that Zappe has reached the lofty status of Practice Squad player in his 4th season?
Yes. That's because he was aiming for starter reps and hence got booted out. If he realiZed he were a backup we might not have signed brissett.

He is better than hoyer and bunch of other backups who had long careers.

Zappe does not get injured and is pretty reliable from availability standpoint and behind good game plan should help you win games.

I wish Zappe well.

However, this is the second season that Zappe passed through waivers. Let us understand that 31 teams twice wouldn't give him a roster spot as their #3 QB.
========
He does seem to have enough health and enough drive to stick around for awhile. After all, teams do need #2 and #3 QB's.

Isn’t he technically their #3 since they only have 2 on their active roster?
And likely to be on their 53 if there’s a QB injury. I doubt “garbage” can play QB, though… I wish the KC braintrust had as much insight into Zappe as rochrist, mgteich and maust.

Let's be very, very clear. If Zappe is really good enough to be the #2 on KC if there is an injury, just maybe SOME team might consider that he is worth having on their roster as a possible number two. Perhaps other teams should accept KC's judgment. If he is good enough to be KC's #3, maybe another team should make Zappe their #3, on their 53-man roster. Of course, no one is willing, and no one was willing in 2023.

Why did the pros in KC sign him, then? Odd to waste a PS spot on garbage. It’s not like Zappe is shrouded in mystery. He’s been playing for years and there’s lots of tape. Why did they sign him?
Zap better not get too comfortable if he stays on the PS. If Brisk gets injured in the 1st few games, he's going to be plucked back into Bolivia...

I think that we'll see the Pats add the 4 guys cut today to the Practice Squad unless Bolden get's picked up from waivers.

I questioned whether Zappe did the right thing (financially) in signing a PS contract with KC, not KC signing Zappe. PS contracts pay short change, they're good deals for teams not players. I speculated Zappe may have sold himself short and might have caught a roster spot elsewhere by being more patient. That's certainly not disparaging Zappe.

Signing a PS contract does not preclude other teams from signing the player to their main roster. Any team that wants him can sign him to their 53 man roster at any time.

But they can't have him in for a look and are required to put him on the 53. They also can't subsequently move him to their PS without exposing him to waivers 1st. I claim no insight to Zappe's situation, I was speculating that perhaps Zappe might have acted a bit quickly from a purely financial standpoint.

Yeah, he just got married.

Zappe is a solid backup and with above average offensive line and weapons on offense, like Kelce he should be able to do mop up duties commendably. Similar to what brissett and garopollo did during Brady's deflategate absence.

Zappe will have a long NFL career.
He will not see action in 2024.

Dude, he just got married, she ain't gonna cut him off that soon.

Shows how much we know. Not only did the majority of somewhat recognizable names not get claimed, but many of them haven’t even signed to a practice squad yet:

OT Caleb Jones
OT Jackson Carman
C Alec Lindstrom
C Ricky Stromberg
DT Jaquelin Roy
DT Siaki Ika
CB Caleb Farley

(Please correct me if one of them signed and I missed it.)
