Show me any other NFL team that wins the SB in Y2 of their rebuild. I respect and appreciate you are a homer. Not upset here, just think you have lost it when you are usually one of the more balanced posters.

One think we can agree on. YOU CAN NEVER AGAIN MAKE FUN OF @PatsFan2
The 2001 New England Patriots.

The best 3 WRs on this team are Brown, Doubs, Boutte. Why would you trade him with a cap number under $4 mill?
This. Hopefully he balls out and makes a ton of money in free agency so we can scoop up a decent comp pick. Trading him now for a 5th or 6th when we could possibly get the same in return as a comp pick makes no sense.

Lol @ "the homer view". More like the factual view. It's a known fact he didn't want to play there anymore.
According to sb1 sources. There are 31 other teams in the NFL and no-one else wanted to give a 1st round pick for Brown.

If AJB has a great 2027 and/or the Patriots win a championship then yeah nobody will GAF about that 2028 first.

You must have forgotten the moaning on our day 3 draft day thread when we didn't have any fourth round picks.

The fact we might end up with no first round pick will cause some god-awful wailing on draft day.

It will only get worse this year. We could have resigned Diggs for that production and kept our 1st and 5th round picks.
Oh noes we didn't keep a 5th round pick!

Let's hope. Who is a better GM, Vrable or Roseman? Serious question because you think Vrable is better and most people outside of NE would stongly disagree with you.

LOL. That has to be the biggest homer take ever. My God.

Nope. It only means the Pats are on a typical rebuild cycle.
Cause rebuilding teams generally have an MVP caliber QB under his rookie contract and cost control for another 3 seasons and who just won their conference. "Typical"...

Overpriced, both with forking over the first-rounder and his contract, especially considering his swiftly deteriorating knee. BIG risk that will only look OK with a deep playoff run to which Brown proves integral.

I don't get this "we are in a rebuild" talk. Okay. So what? Rarely do these things shake out in a clear "okay these years we are rebuilding and then by year 5 our window starts!" - literally not a single coach in the NFL has that much luxury. it is more often you start rebuilding and then when you sniff success, you're thrusted into balancing between the priorities of a rebuild while acknowledging that a swing or two in form of a trade could put you in SB contention.

I understand not loving the price, but it's silly to act like it's stupid/selling the farm. And while I don't love the price, I certainly don't hate the trade and will love seeing him elevate our squad.

It's like you are getting your information from Trump.
This is the delusional Ken. So wierd.
The reality as I heard it, he was draining his knees down the end of their latest Superbowl run, He did NOT drain his knees last season and there is no reason to think he'll need to do it this year
Once the knee needs to be drained, the knee does not heal. Thanks for proving my point. Let's hope the Pats can manage the knee for up to 2 years.
You sound like Felgar who whines like the Eagles got every #1 pick we have in perpetuity. Think of it like this. You just bought a luxury sports car for a fair price, and you can drive it around for 2 full years before you have to pay a dime for it. BTW- I have to admit I too thought he was draining his knees last season too.
You simple insult instead of presenting a rational discussion point. But that is the way you have always been.

It’s actually year 7 of the rebuild.

By your argument though, you must give up on wining the SB in year 2 when all you did was get to the SB in year 1.

I care more about the Patriots being a good team and winning games than "winning the deal"

I would say the Eagles slightly won this deal but who cares if it helps the team stay a contender and the QB develop, we don't have Brady anymore and can't expect Drake to turn water into wine.

I feel better about it getting a proven solid player now than sticking using the pick for a WR in 2 years that might not even be able to play in the league.

We need to get over the obsession with winning every deal and be happy to pay a slight premium to get a good player.

I'm actually surprised to see so much negativity from all you armchair GM's on here. Sorry you're disappointed, but I'm excited about this, and I'm not going to let the internet "armchair GMs" rain on my parade! Fans often react with immediate skepticism or negativity because change is scary and giving up draft capital feels risky. But looking at the big picture, this trade makes a ton of sense for the Patriots.

When you look at trades from a truly balanced perspective, a classic "win-win" scenario often involves one team trading away elite talent to reset their timeline or locker room, while the other team pays a premium to get immediate, game-changing help.

Why the Patriots Win

Pairing a star youg quarterback like Drake Maye with an established superstar receiver is the ultimate textbook move for developing a young franchise QB.

  • Instant Impact: While draft picks are exciting, they are always a gamble. With an elite veteran, New England gets a proven product who commands double-teams immediately and completely changes how opposing defenses have to scheme against them.

Why the Eagles Win

From Philadelphia’s perspective, getting a 1st-round draft pick in two years and a 5th-round pick next year is an incredible haul, especially if the rumored locker room friction was real.

  • Culture and Chemistry: Football is a team game, and if a player is reportedly a distraction, removing that friction can often lead to addition by subtraction. It allows the rest of the locker room to reset.
  • The "Knee Risk" & Asset Management: Elite wide receivers are highly physical players. By moving on now, the Eagles insulate themselves from the risk of a major injury (like a sudden knee blowout) hurting his value later, all while netting a massive future draft asset to keep their roster young and financially flexible.
It seems to me that Kyle Brandt hit the nail on the head at the end of the following clip, and sometimes you have to tune out the instant online outrage and look at how a trade strategically sets up both franchises for what they actually need right now. For the Pats, that's protecting and elevating their prize young quarterback, elevating them from a Super Bowl contender to perhaps one of the favorites to win it all. For the Eagles, it's maintaining long-term stability and draft capital.

Grade the trade: Patriots get a superstar receiver in A.J. Brown to pair with Drake Maye

Heav'n from all creatures hides the book of fate,
All but the page prescrib'd, their present state:
From brutes what men, from men what spirits know:
Or who could suffer being here below?
The lamb thy riot dooms to bleed today,
Had he thy reason, would he skip and play?
Pleas'd to the last, he crops the flow'ry food,
And licks the hand just rais'd to shed his blood.

Oh blindness to the future! kindly giv'n,
That each may fill the circle mark'd by Heav'n:
Who sees with equal eye, as God of all,
A hero perish, or a sparrow fall,
Atoms or systems into ruin hurl'd,
And now a bubble burst, and now a world.

Hope humbly then; with trembling pinions soar;
Wait the great teacher Death; and God adore!
What future bliss, he gives not thee to know,
But gives that hope to be thy blessing now.
Hope springs eternal in the human breast:
Man never is, but always to be blest:

The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

This.
It's an overpay, but not a huge overpay, and they got a quality player out of it.

Don’t like the 1st but whatever. Let’s win baby.

He traded for Brown 4 years ago.
Sorry, but that only helps my point. I wish we had traded for Brown 4 years ago. I would have whole heartedly supported that trade.

A lot of people consider themselves really smart in football and probably think they could have somehow given two fifths to Philly and had them eat the entirety of his contract because they’re just really smart
