They squandered this time

?

They've solidified the IOL and drafted Garcia - who would likely have been the 2018 starter had he not been overtaken by an unforeseeable illness at the start of Camp.

I'm also confident that pass blocking on Brady's blindside will be at least adequate, although they may have to assign more player resources and redesign the ground game a bit.

It's not as if the Pats are going to throw up their hands and allow Brady to get killed simply because they don't have an elite LT ready to go at the moment.

Suspect on the horizon for LT other than Flemming? Is this a possible hint for Pats?

"The Arizona Cardinals have not yet made a move on tackle Jared Veldheer, shown contract counts more than $10 million against the salary cap. He can be released and the team would save nearly $7 million in cap space.

The Cardinals have also reportedly added a new tackle in Andre Smith, suggesting the Cardinals are ready to move on from the 30-year-old tackle.

But the fact he is still on the roster suggests something, that rather than releasing him outright, they would like to work out a trade.

Veldheer is a very good player who can play both tackle spots. He struggled early in 2016 at right tackle but turned it around, and he already has a very good reputation as a left tackle.

The Buffalo Bills recently were able to parlay Cordy Glenn, another talented tackle and one of their first-round draft picks into a higher pick in the first round, moving up nine spots to No. 12.

Could the Cardinals use Veldheer and their No. 15 pick to move up in the range that would land them a quarterback?

Or perhaps could they simply pick up an extra pick for Veldheer."

There you have it. This might be the Clouseau pick-up. Obvious CAP readjustment needed to get under $4mm or so. Only 8 months older than Solder

Thoughts?

IIRC, didn't BB bring Veldheer in for a peek a few years back after his stint in OAK? Pretty good player. Wouldn’t mind him at all.

Edit: Oops. After further review, it was actually T/G Robert Gallery after his stint in SEA.

I don’t know about starting last year (solder and cannon prob had those jobs locked down) but there’s a chance Garcia would’ve bumped Fleming off the roster and would’ve been penciled in as our starting LT going into this season.

2018: $6.5 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus), 2019: Free Agent

We can extend him.
DW Toys

For a low pick at that price, I’m all for it. He’s less than 1/2 the cost of solder and we get a year of exclusive rights to negotiate an extension. Plus it allows us to look at other areas of need come April.

Fleming is the proof that hard work, and a little luck, does pay off in the NFL.

Guy was cut in 2015 and looked like a bust. Low and behold Solder tore his biceps, Fleming came back and became an integral part of the team, especially in 2016 once Gronk went down.

I hope the guy cashes in.
Huh? In 2016 he started 2 games week 1 and week 5 and played only 133 other snaps all season, 25 at tackle and the rest as the short yardage extra TE.

If the Cardinals intend to use him and their #15 pick to move up for a QB, I don't see how the Pats are in the conversation.

Fair retort.
DW Toys
Not that I recall. I think we on this forum wanted him mostly (or some of us did)

Unlike Waddle and Flemming, he is a reasonable multi year Starter who broke his ankle and had elbow issue in 2017 while he was a starter. Draft a kid and he is a decent stop gap.

AZ does trade with us.

Was suggested as a dream scenario Read through that they would perhaps like an extra pick.

That's what I meant ... drafted in 2017 to be groomed for a year and, then, start in 2018. Then, his illness intervened to delay all that by a year.

I agree that, had Garcia been healthy in 2017, with Croston seemingly having the potential to fill in at guard or tackle, he'd likely have replaced Fleming as the "Swiss Army Knife" OL (aka, the Russ Hochstein position).

"Miller (6-9, 309) had a rough start to 2017, but turned in a decent season for UCLA blocking for Josh Rosen as the Bruins' left tackle. Miller has good length to him, athleticism, and the agility to stay on the edge in the NFL. However, he might be a better fit as a right tackle in the pros, as Miller can have problems with speed rushes to the inside. That caused him to have some up and down performances in college."

Rosen got beat up last year.

Walter Football doesn't really scout tape in depth for all prospects. I'm not super impressed with their reports. Here's the season review I wrote for him:

I believe your information is incorrect.

Fleming played in 12 and 16 games in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

He started 7 and 5 games in 2015 and 2016, respectively. In 2015 he played 467 snaps and in 2016 he played 284 snaps.

The combine doesn't matter, but the combine matters?

One player excelled on film, the other excelled at the combine. Both matter, but not everyone looks good both on film and at the combine. I think that makes sense, but maybe I'm wrong.

Cameron Fleming to visit Cowboys

Fleming visiting Dallas where he certainly wouldn't be expecting to be looked at as a starter...interesting.

I sorta-kinda expected Fleming and Waddle to at least get a couple looks (or rumors of looks) during the tampering period or on official Day-1, and I'm guessing that they did, too.

And yet, here we are - the signing frenzy for starting OL ( & wannabes) is long past and the lazy, "Oh, I guess so" period for backups has been underway for a couple of days. And yet, these guys are just now beginning to make visits? And for backup jobs elsewhere?

I think I may have overvalued them a tad. Seems like BB may not have, though.

A thoughtful man takes the reasoned and considered approach when he realizes a reassessment is in order, a lesser one not only stays with flawed judgements but sometimes goes so far as to double down on them.

Still others bet the farm on them and go Full...

Not sure if legit. Does he return punts or only kicks?
