Cedric Ogbuehi WAS A 2015 first round pick for the Bengals. He had talent at some time in his life. He has been terrible, but ironically the Bengals just switched O Line coach. If this to say if he is expendable and Scar can coach him up?

Can we slowly get to the point where we all agree that being a first round pick more than 2 years ago means **** ? Being drafted there doesn't mean there is some kind of talent hidden away somewhere but simply that the player had some elite trait but despite getting that head start over others could n0t make it as a pro.

Agree completely. Like Erik Flowers he’s a great reminder that being a high pick ultimately doesn’t guarantee anything. Unfortunately the top of this OL class isn’t very impressive. They may however have better luck after the first round.

Quenton Nelson is arguably the best OL coming out of college over the past 10-15 years and Mike McGlinchey has as much upside as any OT prospect in years... Orlando Brown had a weak combine, but his film is very impressive. Conor Williams put up one of the best combines for a tackle, ever.

I would say that the top of the class is fine and it breaks down when you look for depth and value later on.

So the biggest need in the draft - LT or CB? It doesn't look like we'll fill either of those needs in free agency, unless Bill is satisfied with Waddle and JMac.

Nelson is a guard, and he and McGlinchey are the two prospects who look like locks. Williams had a very mediocre season by the accounts I have read, so just a good combine is far from enough evidence to make him a great selection, which is what you want from your first. So, in short, I stand by my view that this OL class is weak at the top. Two guys is a weak top of the class, especially when you look at the premium put on OL in recent first rounds.

Lb should be a given with one of the picks in our top 3. LT should be as well unless the staff has confidence in waddle (if signed) and Garcia. And who knows when we’re going QB.

We'll see... You could be right, but hype is building for four or five OL being selected in the first round. Plenty of OL are nothing to write home about during the season, as it's a position that doesn't bring a lot of tangible performance indicators to the table.

There were two OL selected in the first round last year, and five in 2016. This class seems to be at least decent at the top. Unfortunately, we won't know for sure until they've been drafted and have played.

LT- Greg Robinson might be worth a gamble. Former top 5 pick in 2014. Maybe Scar could work some magic.

If the money were the same, I would've signed Robinson ahead of Tobin.

negotiate a contract starting from scratch. They have completely botched up
the offensive tackle situation to the point where they have lost Solder and are
about to lose both of his potential replacements. Fleming and Waddle are not
adequate replacements but are better than the other free agents (Tobin).

Fleming is the proof that hard work, and a little luck, does pay off in the NFL.

Guy was cut in 2015 and looked like a bust. Low and behold Solder tore his biceps, Fleming came back and became an integral part of the team, especially in 2016 once Gronk went down.

I hope the guy cashes in.

My best-case pick at 31, however, is LB Leighton VanderEsche.

Agreed. Love High, but he's becoming more and more like Mr. Mayo, just can't stay healthy.

With Gilmore, JMac, Rowe and Jon Jones, I don't see drafting an immediate starter at boundary CB as a major need. A prospect who can develop into a starter by 2019 would be ideal. But then, the same might be said of safety (in spite of Chung's extension).

The Pats can draft an LT in this draft as high as any fan wants, but I have serious doubts that he'll immediately become the full time starter in 2018, regardless. So, it seems to me that they'll largely be relying on what the have and whatever else they can scrape together for the coming season.

But then, that development period for a 2018 would also be a development period for Garcia. Only the coaches and medical/training staff know Garcia current status and prognosis. That could range anywhere from "he's done" to "he'll be ready to take starting reps by Camp". The more that tends toward the latter, the less likely it seems that the Pats would spend a high draft pick on an OT.

At this point in time you gotta turn over every rock...not gonna find anything much better, if at all on the market. If they could sign him for small money, there's nothing to lose if he doesn't work out...just cut him.
