Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Bucs O: 73 plays (TOP 33:10)
Passes: 45 (62%) 17 FD (.38)
Runs: 25 (34%) 6 FD (.24)
FGs: 3

CAR O: 61 plays (TOP 26:50)
Passes: 37 (61%) 15 FD (.41)
Runs: 22 (36%) 4 FD (.18)
FGs: 1

Bucs ratio of plays in this game are similar or even lower than season averages, yet the results are much different. Main reason, the players actually made the plays. This is why I don't put the majority of the blame on the coaches (Bucs or Pats), like others do. At the end of the day, the players need to perform better on whatever is called. Bucs were playing like sh*t. Once they play well, all of a sudden the coaching doesn't look so bad.

It's the job of the coaches to get the plays that work for the players, and to play the correct players. The initial call at LG followed by the change at LG is a coaching call, not an execution call, for example. Snap counts at RB/TE is a coaching call, for another example.

And that's not even getting into the variables of opposing personnel, or changes in the use of team personnel in both run and pass situations (TEs/RBs staying in to block more/less, etc...).

I don’t remember who said it in this thread but I’m convinced they were 100% right that Bowels is behind all this running BS to try and keep the defense fresh so he looks better

it doesn’t work yet they keep doing it
Bowles himself said it when explaining why they don't do more hurry up. It doesn't give his defense enough time to rest.

Explain all of their success with Brady in the no huddle. You know, the only time they're good.

All of these 1 & 2 yard runs aren't doing them any good. Pretty much setting up passing downs on 3rd-long. When defenses are teeing off with their pass rush.
Essentially Brady has been playing 3 down Canadian football with all their negative to 2 yard waisted first down runs.

Isn't the AFC South the worst division now?
It is by far (21 wins) and the NFC West (29) has only 2 more wins than the NFC south (27).

That f*cked up. This douche is constantly looking for reasons to run the ball more. I bet when BA was the HC, if Bowles ever came to him with horsesh*t like that, BA told him to f*ck off and die.

Can we just call it a tie right now?
I've witnessed some horrifically bad final weekend gameplans from Belichick (2015 @Mia immediately comes to mind), so I can only imagine what Dummy Bowles will come up with.

I'm a bit confused with your relentless rants about running the ball more. You do realize that the Bucs are at the top of the league in passing the ball, correct? Brady is attempting a record 44.8 attempts per game. Do you want him to attempt 50, 55 passes every game? Is that what you want to see? Or is it more like 60 to 65?

They wouldn't be throwing it more overall they would just stop telegraphing when they throw and when they run which makes mediocre defenses look good.

Sorta looking like the Bucs whiffed on Tryon and Logan Hall. They haven't impressed much aside from a couple occasions.

Good. Their running game sucks.

Their running game is a total zero. I've never seen anything so pathetic. You watch the games, right? When they're attempting to have a balanced offense - which apparently to Bowles and Leftwich is relentlessly running the same plays up the middle on 1st down - they're predictable and stagnant. And repeatedly facing 3rd-long.

Pretty much the only time they're effective offensively is when Brady runs the no huddle and they throw nearly every down. He leads the NFL in 4th quarter passing because that's when he's just taking over. Defenses know it and they're coming after Brady yet he's getting it done anyway.

It's week 18, nothing is going to change, so go with what's working.

Tyrone has quietly had a solid season.

He's ok. I'd be curious to see how he ranks for pressures. Presumably not high on any sort of list, otherwise I'd expect to find more when Google searching for it. Certainly far from living up to his 1st round status though. He's still got time though.. only his 2nd year.

Not sure where you're getting this at this stage of their careers. Hall's a rookie playing behind good talent. Tryon has improved from his rookie season, and is currently playing just about every defensive snap, having increased that percentage over the course of the season.

Am I crazy to think Bucs have a decent chance to make it to the SB? Is it just me having been conditioned to always believe in Brady, no matter what, that's been ingrained in me over 20 years?

They need to give up the run though. Run 30% of the time and only with White. Use Fournette as a catching back only (ironic as he sucked at that year 1).

I remember Brady throwing 15 straight times to open a game against Steelers or something like that...was that in a playoff game? That's what they need. Never run on first down and never run straight down the middle (which is half their runs). Pass to set up the run.

Brady needs to ignore the rookies and just repeatedly go to Evans (not used enough on short routes when he has the body to box out receivers), Godwin and Gage who I think has proven a reliable catcher on third down and not used enough.

Use Godwin and Jones for some trick running plays and maybe a flee flicker? Evans would be ideal for that as he seems good at stopping and restarting.

Man their offense is devoid of creativity. Can't they just watch 49ers and copy some plays? I feel like I could call better plays sometimes.

IF the OL can hold up Brady can win without a running game. we saw it countless times with the Pats where they wouldn’t even bother running the ball

sadly I think the loss of Barrett will hurt them at some point

Anthony Nelson seems to be stepping up quite well. Tryon needs to as well. Murphy-Bunting has looked good in his limited action despite the coaching staff benching him for the majority of the season up until recently.
