I didn't see this one coming (at least not this early in the cuts process):

Veteran defensive back Ross ****rell is part of the first round of Buccaneers cuts this summer.

The Bucs waived tight end Ben Beise, tackle Curtis Blackwell, wide receiver Kameron Brown, tackle Jonathan Hubbard, and outside linebacker JoJo Ozougwu to complete the morning’s moves.

Wild to think that a year ago, Bucs' only additions were basically Gio Bernard and rookies. This year's offseason additions? Russell Gage Julio Jones Kyle Rudolph Shaq Mason Akiem Hicks Carl Nassib Logan Ryan Keanu Neal Obviously there were departures too, but much different.

Bucs issued a depth chart with their weekly game release, but it's exactly the same as the initial one last week. No changes at all.

It varies from team to team, based on scheme and personnel strengths. The Bucs should be close to last year -- I have them with 3 QB, 4 RB, 7 WR, 3 TE, 9 OL, 6 DL, 4 OLB, 5 ILB, 5 CB, 4 S, 3 specialists. Even that has a 26-24 offensive tilt. More here:

Ross ****rell played a ton last year with all the DB injuries — started four games, had 43 tackles. Played 247 snaps on special teams, but a chance for Bucs to get younger and faster. I’d think ****rell is in another NFL camp quickly.

I didn’t have ****rell making the Bucs’ 53, so team is doing him a favor by cutting him earlier. Good competition in camp for the ninth DB job, from both corners and safeties.

Another small but significant step for Bucs receiver Chris Godwin, who has ramped up from individual drills to 7-on-7 work in the last two days of practice. Slow, careful progress as he returns from knee surgery.

The Bucs waited to put Gill on injured reserve until after final cuts last September, giving him a chance to return from a foot injury. Gill, 24, ended up playing 13 games in 2021, seeing action on 100 defensive snaps and 233 on special teams. He totaled 11 tackles and two sacks.

Bowles said he is “not sure yet” whether the team will do the same with Gill this year.

Injured reserve is more flexible this year — as long as a player is on the initial 53, they can go on IR for as little as four weeks now, so teams don’t have to keep a player with a short-term injury inactive on the 53.

What is he even mad about at the moment, is he actually trying to get back in the league but no one wants him for obvious reasons?

I can't believe all the media consternation this is causing. It is really not that complicated. They are giving him 10 days off in the middle of camp because he is the greatest QB of all time and has played for 2 decades and they are letting him take some extra time off. It seems to me the rest of the team has absolutely zero problems with that.

Then why are his team mates are praying for him?
