Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

BB laid the foundation for the Patriot Way but Brady was the key cog that made it work.

It's probably more accurate to say that the chain went from BB, to McGinest & Co, to Brady, and that Brady was the key to it being a lasting thing.

Bucs are listed as having $10.39 million in available cap space by NFLPA records. That should already include Akiem Hicks, and leaves room to still sign Rob Gronkowski and rest of draft class, if not another modest signing or two.

Plenty of teams in the NFC that are likely to be good:

Philly
Dallas
Green Bay
Tampa Bay
New Orleans
L.A. Rams
49ers
Minnesota (?)
Arizona (?)

And JAG and Mayfield will likely be starting somewhere. Mayfield could very well end up in Seattle, for example, which would improve that team.
This is the worst group of NFC teams we've seen in a long time. Rams are the only threat. This looks like the Pats back during their 20 year run (especially during the 2010's).

Philly? Really?
Dallas and GB are chokers. Aaron is going to feel Tom's pain on what it's like to not have any good WR's.
NO? They're only good against Tampa Bay.
49ers had no business making the playoffs last year and will go back to being mediocre. That has been Kyle's pattern as a coordinator or Coach. If he has another winning season, it will be his first as he's never had two consecutive winning seasons. Aside from their front 7 and a few players on O, they're roster isn't that great.
Minnesota? Lol.
Arizona. Nope.

You're wildly overblowing the weakness of the NFC. It is the shallower conference, largely because it has suffered a QB drain. But to say beyond that is to run counter to what we've seen leading up to this year.

Philly? Really?

Yes. Have you not seen the team's offseason moves? There's no question that Hurts is going to be the issue there, but they've taken a major step forward in terms of talent.

Dallas and GB are chokers. Aaron is going to feel Tom's pain on what it's like to not have any good WR's.

Every team is a "choker" in the eyes of too many around here. But Green Bay's been to the conference championship in 2 of the past 3 years.

NO? They're only good against Tampa Bay.

That's just nonsense. They were 9-3 when QB'd by Winston or Hill.

49ers had no business making the playoffs last year and will go back to being mediocre.

49ers are a very talented team. The transition to the new QB is likely to be the issue there, as long as the team can avoid the injury bug.

That has been Kyle's pattern as a coordinator or Coach. If he has another winning season, it will be his first as he's never had two consecutive winning seasons. Aside from their front 7 and a few players on O, they're roster isn't that great.

Look again. When they've been even relatively healthy in the past 3 seasons, they've gone to conference championship twice, and the Super Bowl once.

Minnesota? Lol.
Arizona. Nope.

Arizona finished 11-6 last year, even without having Hopkins for a huge chunk of the season. Minnesota was mediocre, but is a talented team that will be bringing a new coaching philosophy.

Your post is what we would expect of a Bucs honk. Let's not go down such a path.

Bucs have mandatory minicamp this week, so we run through storylines to watch, from Tom Brady back at practice to Akiem Hicks’ debut to competition all over the field:

Aaron Donald will not be retiring:

The contract, per a source with knowledge of the terms, has no new years. Instead, the existing deal was torn up, and it was replaced by a new contract.

He’ll get $95 million over the next three years. He’s getting, a literally, a $40 million raise.

The contract includes a pair of voidable years. The void kicks in on the final day of the 2024 league year. Which means that the Rams won’t be able to tag him for 2025. Instead, he’ll become a free agent if he wants to keep playing.

He gets $65 million over the next two years, with no offset on guarantees. It’s structured to let him retire after 2023 with no financial penalty. If decides to play in 2024, he’ll get another $30 million...

Hahaha the cap isn’t real
Well it's real sometimes and for some teams.

The cap seemingly isn't real for the Rams. In contrast, it's always an issue with the Pats. The Brady hometown discounts didn't prevent the Pats from shoving players out the door so that they didn't have to pay them.

Bucs should still be able to field a competitive team with expensive veterans an additional year after 2022.

I'll bet he doesn't do the full 10 years.
No way to know.

If he's kinda crappy at it, he could flame out like Montana. Or if he doesn't like it.

I think Tom wants to stay close to the game. But a player doesn't always know what it's like to stop playing, until he actually stops.

Me, personally, I would have given Tom Drew's richest contract in NFL history right after the '01 season. He made that many big, clutch plays - most of which were deceivingly unspectacular - and the kid's potential was, to me, limitless.

In any case, as I've said before, from his very first start I felt we had the advantage at the quarterback position. Even against seasoned veterans. Because Tom had the right attitude, which he retains today. He's always learning, trying to improve, and he doesn't care about accolades.

Personal records, yeah he takes pride in. Drafted in the sixth round? Yeah, that's always there. Losing a consecutive starts streak that would have probably stood forever because he was suspended for alleged 'general awareness' of an nonexistent equipment violation for as many games as a guy who nearly murders woman? Tom turns this crap into motivation. I'm not assuming this is his last year. And I believe he wants to go out on top.

It's the question many in the media have asked...where did all the money go?

Way too much money was spent on mediocre mid tier contracts because they couldn't draft.

Every time the team faced adversity (and it was a LOT-on & off the field) Brady stepped up, bore down and went to work. And Belichick always preaches focus on this game, not the last one and not the next one.

They worked very well together. Bill has this habit of outsmarting himself, but we had a dynasty.

You could say Parcells was a big part of that foundation, which is one reason the media lose it over him.

But, the Patriots rallying around each other and taking an 'us against the world' attitude can be traced back as far as 1974. We were never supposed to win, and when we started doing it everyone in the league and media refused to accept it and did everything to denigrate it, ignore it, and flat out deny it.

Today, they say Tom was entirely responsible for the Super Bowls. He wasn't.

One of the only things I like about the NBA's cap is that when you pay a guy...you are on the hook.

I will not even pretend to understand the NBA cap because it’s absolutely real but has so many exemptions and privileges and workarounds and grace periods that it requires an advanced degree to work thorough. The NHL cap is the most simple and iron clad one in pro sports afaik. And technically MLB contracts are basically unbreakable and unmodifiable if you consider the Luxury Tax as a sort of cap.

Well, no ones gonna have to worry about the Browns this season and possibly ever.
