Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Sure, if you're comparing him with Josh Allen. But Brady vs Brady, not much of a decline if any. I think he seemed distracted, for sure.
Who's comparing him to Allen? I only compare Brady to Brady as he is the standard. I saw noticeable decline. If others want to hand wave it away and blame everything on coaching/injuries/frustration that is fine. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But Brady not reaching 10 wins in the most putrid division in football had a lot more to do with his play IMO than the team/coaching.

So when will Bowles be firing himself, since the entire team failed to meet the high standards that had been set for this past year, and not just the offense?
Curious how it doesn't seem any of the D coaches have been fired. Those blown coverages were brutal.

He had a better season than in 2013 and 2019 when he was 9 & 3 years younger.
I honestly don't see what 2013 and 2019 have to do with this season.

His demeanor was similar to 2019. He was going to give it his all but he knew the overall roster talent wasn't there and when things went bad he thought to himself well that figures. Also probably by October he realized Bowles was a complete disaster as a head coach.

The one significant change in Brady's game has been the expansion of the receivers' catch window, but that's something that's happened as he's lost his Welker/Edelman, and had to convert to more of a deeper, slower-opening WR outlet (and we've seen this in the past when those WRs were injured/suspended). Brady used to give about a 6 inch window in which the throw was going to hit. Today, it's about 7-8 inches (Numbers just a guesstimate).

Basically, as he's lost the quick-twitch guy, he's gone from a Pennington/Brees level of ball placement to a Peyton Manning level of placement, and we can't be sure whether that's because of the type of receiver (taller, less twitchy) or not.

Not sure if you can go with the "declining for years" argument considering he threw for 5300 yards and should have been named the league MVP just last season. 2020 and 2021 were arguably his best two back-to-back seasons of his career.
He used to be the best by miles in the pocket. Do you think he still looks like it? Last year? Yards mean nothing. You guys like to argue in circles but use the same arguments for all players equally. The coaching on the TB bucs was complete crap, TB did not play well and could not elevate the team. BOTH can be true. It's not simply a talent around him issue. If he needs All Pros at every position he might as well retire. Doesn't mean he sucks, but he was absolutely part of the problem. He did not elevate that team on a snap per snap basis and as bad as coaching was, no way he didn't have a say. 18ppg.

Evans is a hall of famer already, no?

Yeah, I'm not from Tampa, and I've only been following the team closely since Brady arrived so I'm probably underestimating the area's regard and loyalty for Evans.
He may be but there's a lot of WRs in the pipeline. I think he needs to move up the ranks in yards and TDs to guarantee it.

That's my fear about where he goes next. If the Oline and receivers are not top notch or get hurt, he won't be able to elevate. To me Vegas is a hard no. The Oline is trash.

"That's it unfortunately, he really doesn't have much left" - January 2010, 2014, 2020, 2023

What's happened with this is the same thing that happened with Mac Jones this year. At the beginning of the year, everyone agreed on certain things ("Jensen's a big loss and, if they can't fill the C/LG spots sufficiently, this is really going to hurt the offense, especially if the WRs can't stay healthy" = "This coaching staff sucks, and it's going to screw up the offense"). Over the course of the season, some people forgot those obvious things, and started to blame the QBs for the failings around them.

And a bunch of us warned about this happening over the course of the season, but some here just can't help themselves.

You said:
"saw decline especially when he could not set his feet and step into the throw."

Every single QB in the NFL fits that description unless you're Josh Allen.

I agree that his level of play declined but not because he's lost arm strength. I'm not one that blames it on coaching. Injuries were a definite factor as was poor play by skill players (incl. him). But none of that = Brady's decline.

What did you see decline in?

That he played better this season than in '13 and '19 and therefore talk of his physical decline is non-sensical.

But that is not a correlation at all. I don't think he played better than those years. I mean Tampa had him throwing an obnoxious amount because they had zero run game.

Brady won 3 games with less than 10 seconds remaining this season. His play was exceptional in 2020 and 2021 per his stats, the results, and my eyeballs. I already said I think his pocket mobility declined this season. Otherwise he looked like the same quarterback physically. And never mind "all pros at every position," there was a noticeable decline in talent at every position around Brady this season.

The decline around him was very obvious. Again , both can be true. He has played over 20 years and probably averaged 30 points per game in his career in NE. You can't give him credit for that and then not blame him some for this season where they couldn't put up 20. Absolute gong show of an offense with him at the head. Yes, everything went wrong but STILL, he deserves blame. He used to play playoff games and get hit 20 times and it still came down to the last play if they lost. He'd get obliterated and sacked and threw picks and still won SBs. Now he looks lost if the first 2 reads aren't open and YES they lacked talent but those of you who only see that are blind. The most frustrating part was that he allowed the game plans and play calling to continue which by association means he's also responsible for it. You can't have it both ways. He's a veteran QB and no way they played this way without his consent.

I can't believe that folks are still acting like NYFL players don't spend time with their kids. Who sees their kids more, a pro football player or a plumber who works 50-60 hours a week for 50 weeks?

I think Gronk is D-O-N-E done and I wouldn't invest a dime in him.

Brady is worth it to some teams and I'd like to see him end up with the Titans.

People are ****ing idiots that’s why

Good point, zero run game. Don't you think that's going to have an adverse effect on the passing game? Brady was running a one dimensional offense. That really only worked when he called the plays out of the no huddle. Give the man some credit for trying to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
