Looking forward to the daily reports both from the beat reporters and any fans lucky enough to be there.....yeah !

One thing about BB I never can understand. He has this certain reluctance with rookies, at least in my opinion. He seems to be so protective/hesitant with them. How many rookies actually see serious tarting snaps week 1 on this team? It is a rare thing unless you are an OL man. They have plugged a lot of those guys in early. Besides them... Mayo, Hightower, Jones, Mayo, McCourty, Gronk.... Those and maybe a few others? You have to be pretty damn exceptional to be a week 1 starter on this team as a rookie, even as a high pick.

A lot of coaches seem to throw in rookies and use the games to teach. BB seems to want to make rookies earn their time more so. I worry about this is relation to Mac. I don't want him sitting until Cam self destructs mid season. I don't want him having to clearly be head and shoulders better than Cam to play. I want him to be put in, even if he might not be as good, cause that is how you get experience and get better faster. Long run it is the best thing for this team to get him up to NFL game speed ASAP. But I don't think BB will do it unless he absolutely has to or it is clear as day the best option.

I think you understand BB perfectly. In this D or O you need to be an exceptional talent AND a quick learner to play a lot as a rookie.

I remember 2012 and 2013 re: High and Jamie Collins. High had a rough 2012 and early in 2013 he was catching a lot of grief then BOOM the light went on and the rest is history.

Collins also was played sparingly early in 2013 but by December his understanding of the D allowed his ability to take over.

That was my obscure point. Signing a Foxboro High TE not just a camp body. You have that many TE’s and reps are taken away from someone else. It’s easy to say “camp body” without knowing the facts.

Could possibly explain the Wells signing. If you're installing a two-TE offense, and want to run with three groups through drills, you need 6 in camp. Wells might just be there to occupy the spot in drills until Asiasi is back (if this test was known a few days ago).

You’ll notice all the names on that list we’re post 2008 where they defenses were terrible between 2008-2013. The D was so good in the first dynasty that Ty Warren and Wilfork sat a lot in their first year.

Other names off the top of my head that started who aren’t K’s or P’s are Mankins, Eugene Wilson, Hernandez, I’m sure Deion Branch and even Ras IR Dowling started week 1 in 2011. And what about the bizarre week 1 start of Deonte Skinner over Mayo in 2014?

Under the radar competition given the other storylines opening this camp, but Nordin beating out Folk would be a pleasant surprise. I like Folk, and if he's still the guy I won't sweat it, but having a legit weapon to nail some longer field goals could be the difference in a few games this year. My question for those who have coached football before: How do you evaluate a kicker in practice settings? Is there any way to predict which guys are more apt to get the "yips" when the game is for real?

Yes. Folk is still a legit kicker within 30 yards. Will that be 25 in 2021? Deffo like the competition.

To be fair to Folk, he made some CLUTCH kicks over 50 yards last year. I just don't want to rely on him for those consistently if we have a legitimate option B.

Yep. If Mighty Quinn beats out Folk so be it. Vice versa. We are better for it.

I know! I can't wait to hear who fails the conditioning run so I can call them fat and lazy while I try to lick the cheez-it crumbs off of my shirt without having to bend at the waist.
