*waves*from whom?
I believe you are misusing the term pressure, its not a thing on running plays. The way its normally used is also quite subjective so one person watching it can say there was none while another person might say it was 50% of the time. My basic understanding of pressure is on a passing play a defender is within a yard or so of the QB and does something that throws off the timing or angle of the throw. Gets a hand in the way, pushes him as he releases, is about to hit him before he is ready to throw, anything along those lines that makes the throw less then feet set, shoulders squared, receiver open and ready, counts as a pressure. One response to lots of pressures is to run the ball at the Defense. We were very successful doing that.
Let's put it another way. It is 2nd and 5. Brissett drops back, there is lots of pressure, he hands off to a RB who gains 6.
I guess for many this is a failure on the part of the OL and Brissett, and another abominable pressure in the stats. For me, it is a first down and a reasonable response to pressure on the passing game.
Onwenu is a very good G and an aver as he at best T. He just doesn’t have OT pass blocking skills.I think Onwenu needs to go back to guard, but the lack of tackle depth becomes a problem. Wallace would be a fine RT, but Jacobs is still very new in NE and is the only backup on the roster at both LT and RT, and then after that you're down to Caleb Jones on the PS. I guess if things get really bad you could move Onwenu back, though.
At guard you have arguably too many options once everyone is healthy soon. Strange, Onwenu, Sow, Robinson, Jordan, Thomas, Leverett. That's a hell of a lot of quality guard depth.
I would propose keeping Onwenu at RT this week on the short week and then during the mini-bye, moving him back to RG and prepping Wallace to take over RT. Sow should hopefully be back healthy by then at LG. That should be a good group, probably a better setup for pass protection.
Strange would be the best G we have by far (unless Onwenu moves back there as he should) but he would also be our best LT right now.i am hearing strange is a better fit for LT. maybe we start to get Strange i reps at LT and backup center and see how it goes. sow is going to the left guard of future. and no way we sign strange to 5th year contract next year.
it might be to his benefit to look to switch places or get traded in 2025.
lowe/strange, Sow, andrews, onwenu, wallce is the best talent and we have jordan, robinson and strange as backups. get jakobs trained so that he can be the 9th guy.
and every team has issues with Oline. its all about the QB and which qb can scramble out of pocket make some time and pass dimes. all the good ones are able to do that. hopefully Maye can do that as well.
I think Robinson will improve in pass blocking and will be a part of this OL in 2026 as well. While Jordan has been playing really well this year, he is not part of the long term plan at least I don't think. I think a 3 G stable of Owenu, Robinson and Sow is pretty damn good.I think Wallace needs to start now. Whether it’s a LT because we don’t have an NFL caliber LT on the roster or RT so Onwenu can go back to G where he belongs, Wallace is one of the few OL we have that project to bring in the league in 2026 so he needs evaluation and experience.
Agreed. I have an odd feeling we are watching Andrews’ final season before retiring.Strange has the body to be an LT but I personally think they are going to try to convert him into a center. The fact of the matter is that Andrews is getting old and they don't have a clear heir apparent there. Strange is very athletic and may make for a solid center with practice.
You can't rule out any possibility on this current OL. Whether it's Strange or Sow we need a Stop gap @ LT temporarily until the next Draft. But we know it's not V Lowe.Strange has never played LT in college or the pros so that would be interesting to see. Sow is our only other interior who cold maybe play a Tackle position. But good lord Wallace was drafted to be a RT, let him be a RT. We're going to need to draft an LT next year regardless.
Point taken I suggested that too a while back with Cole Strange. That said I remembered them trying Siddy Sow @LT in Preseason 23 his Rookie year. We have two currently injured LT possibilities masquerading as Guards.Well, I for one have opined this option on more than one occasion for the following reasons.
1. What has been Strange's Kryptonite in his first 2 seasons. It has been the 330lb DT's who would overpower him in pass protection. And though I thought he did well in the run game, and was very good in making adjustments on the run in the things like blitz pickups, too often he was simply overpowered by the better pass rushing DT's
2. With Brown departing there was obvious a big need at LT.
3. If his weakness seemed to be BIG power rushers and his strength was his speed and athleticism, why not move him to LT when his biggest strengths would be better matched against faster but lighter edge rushers. It only makes sense, given the need and match up to at least take a hard look at this potential move. Between Robinson and Sow you have 2 nice young prospects at the LG position, and a gaping hole at LT.
While edge rushers have become faster, but lighter, it only makes sense to at LEAST think about matching strength against strength, and if it worked out, you could use that top ten pick next April to draft a top 5 OT or Edge rusher instead of a top 3 LT. If you are going to do it, this would be then this would be the season to try it out
Hopefully is namesake is ready in 25.Agreed. I have an odd feeling we are watching Andrews’ final season before retiring.
Dude looked beat up and over it in his PC yesterday.
Knowing Mayo, I am guessing he is reacting to what he saw from his POV and what Brissett was telling him. Once they do a deeper analysis I would imagine Van Pelt and Peters will say "Listen man, it's not actually as bad as the end result makes it look."
I also think that to a certain extent he needs to say this to defend Brissett, because otherwise the answer is "Yeah, Brissett didn't do his job but I'm gonna keep throwing him out there anyway even though we have the #3 overall pick on the bench."
