I was no fan of Austin in 2023…his 1st year with the Pats. He’s improved since then. He should be the 1st backup off the bench.

I was very impressed by him in 2023. Joining the team midseoson working his way in to the fouled and according to pro football reference in 234 snaps he allowed 5 completing on 16 targets for 21 yards and a 35 passer rating against.
Hes a good run defender for a corner also.

Huh? He had back to back penalties, don’t dance.

In the 2024 season, Austin recorded a total of 114 penalties, handing the opponent free first downs is not a good gameplan.
So in 9 games he had 114 penalties, or 12.6 a game. Seems dubious.

Brother, if anyone had 114 penalties in a season, they would not be playing the game anymore

I sincerely hope this is a sarcastic post, because jesus that's a zero critical thinking
They went back and checked the film and Austin, who played 243 snaps was determined to be guilty of every penalty committed by the Patriots, offense, defense and special teams, even when he wasn’t on the field and even in the 8 games he wasn’t dressed. On top of that he was credited with 3 penalties committed by opponents against the Patriots.
Rumor is he may have had some connection to the stat keepers wife.

Even after a nap? Why?

I don't know man, I think we may have been exposed to some next level master class stuff there. Next time either of us puts a foot in it instead of simply owning it with a 'my bad' we can level up and blame it on a nap we'd 'just' woken up from... even though we'd been posting in the previous 10 minutes... and already blamed the mistake on AI.

Yeah... on second thought I think maybe we should just stick with our current 'my bad' and laugh about it along with everybody else approach. After all our identities aren't tied up in never being mistaken, wrong or committing a typo.

Oh hell... on third thought never mind. As a married guy not only am I used to making mistakes left and right, I even get to live with someone who keeps track and points out every one of them for me. NVM there's no way I can sell that nap stuff.

Going to have to pay attention to the defensive backfield Thursday... What is the most common formation? 2 cb 2 s or are we using a lot of nickel?

Mrcus will of course be on the team. and he will get a nice amount of snaps in the slot depending on matchups. I simply think from what we have seen and read, the staff wants a bigger player in the slot (cover TE's?) and Austin see's 50% + of the slot snaps.
the fact that Austin had some issues on the outside, does not mean when everyone is healthy, he is the first option inside.
I could also see a vet signed depending on who comes available.

I don’t understand this. Most teams use 3 wides. If you are putting your slot corner on a TE who covers WR3?

Larry Fitzgerald as the slot WR requires a bigger CB, Ladd McConkey in the slot requires a smaller quicker CB.

This isn’t something new, it’s not revolutionary, it’s happened for decades.

Football is about matchups… always has been.

Thinking "I just woke up from a nap, give me a break." is the new RLKAG. Should be used in all polls and as you noted all eating crow posts.

@Ian - Is there a way to make polls start with two default choices?

RLKAG

I agree with this, and posted such
that said, I believe Austin gets 50%+ of the slot snaps with Marcus close behind

no we can expect 4-5 pages of Wozzy arguing about this, changing what he said, and finally posting that you said it, not him. then he posts a clown face meme and leaves

Have you broken down the regular season schedule by personnel… or is this just a guess?

No meatball… I already admitted it was a mistake. I have the ability to admit when I am wrong, I’m not Rkarp.

Is it just me or do some of the rest of you also channel Cartman when you see that nonsense?

RLKAG
I just woke up from a nap, give me a break.

RLKAG, alternatively RLKAG(P2), more or less organically morphed over time into the de rigueur poll staple it is today, in much the same way as variations on "I don't care, I can't stand it" became board speak for hysterical overreaction. Both of them preceded me here by plenty but I'm big on respecting tradition.

That said, "I just woke up from a nap, give me a break" has some real potential. Particularly if you've been posting right along and already blamed it on AI. At the very least it's an instant classic, only time will tell if it has legs. If I didn't already have a true blowhard's own goal post as my signature quote I might be tempted to use it

They should have a social media thing for cut-down day, "Checking In Safe From the Turk"

Dugger his game has always been down hill.. he has never been great in space and in coverage.. in an attacking one gap defense you have to be rangy at safety to cover the deep half.. Peppers, Hawkins, Woodson fit that mold better
That first part sounds like a reference from that alien race in Star Trek TNG that could only talk in metaphors.

I can see the guy stranded with Picard trying to explain something by saying "Dugger, his game downhill."
