Notable NFL Roster Cuts

I'm right in thinking that if they claim him he'd have to be on the 53 for 5 weeks yes? I suppose the Nink suspension might help facilitate that with Reynolds or anyone else they claim that they don't believe will be productive early.

I have to dig into this a bit further, but I think the answer is no. I think they can hold onto him for much less than that; I recall the Patriots claiming guys off waivers before, quickly releasing them, clearing waivers again, and then resigning to the practice squad.

When you sign a player to your 53-man roster off of someone else's practice squad, then yes, there is a longer minimum. I feel it's 3-5 weeks, but again I'll have to look it up.

Ah yes. I think I'm confusing it with signing someone off a practice squad. Thanks.

In all seriousness though, I was a little surprised it was the Ravens who drafted him. A little. I understand that Ozzie and Bill come from the same place and look for similar characteristics in players, so I get that. But Reynolds doesn't seem like the type of player who would work in Harbaugh's offense. Their offense was a traditional ground-and-pound with a strong RB and then air it out deep with Jump Ball Joe. Mike Wallace fits perfectly with that. Reynolds, though, projected as a possible Percy Harvin type (setting aside for a moment that Percy Harvin-type generally means "IR"....). That fits with the Belichick / Brady offensive style, and not at all with the Ravens' style.

I haven't seen Reynolds at all in camp of course, but I wonder if the Ravens used him more as a traditional receiver. I could easily understand why it would fail. If Belichick liked what he saw, I could really see him as a practice squad candidate; the Pats offense is so complex there is no way he could just walk in and succeed at this point, but working behind the scenes for a few months might help him catch up and potentially be a factor later in the season if injuries strike, or next season with a full Pats training camp behind him.

Im not sure the Jets were notified when the season starts ...

The Jets worked out six players today, including TE Rory Anderson (former 49ers draft pick). Others: CB Greg Ducre, G Chase Farris, LB Deiontrez Mount (former Cards pick), OL Ian Siberman and OL Jordan Swindle.

I quoted the appropriate part for my question. To say that Winston was a no brainer is ludicrous.

I mean, he was about as a sure of a "sure thing" ON THE field, as I've seen in a long time. I tell you, if I'm sitting with a top pick, I'm feeling better then the GM that had to choose between Geoff, Bortles, or Wentz.

Personally Ive always believed in Winston. He was a dumb kid who made a few mistakes in college, just like 99% of every other college kid does. However, you could see that his leadership skills (which are top, Brady like) and his commitment, passion, and love for the game were all at extremely high levels.

By all reports, he's doing wonderful in Tampa. His play was up and down, but still extremely stellar for a rookie.

In my eyes, that was a no brainier pick for the GM. And I'm from Hawaii, a place where saying even one bad thing against, or bad about Marcus Mariota is essentially the equivalent of criticizing a king in a third world country.

Mad we didn't take a flier on Baby Gronk.

Bills fans haven't been hot on him. Apparently underwhelming. Surprised he made the cut. Perhaps their only and best FB on the squad?

The Titans cut OT Tyler Marz. He might be worth a look. Especially if we could get him on the practice squad. But he also may be a little too much of a roadgrader. Instead of the ZBS guys Dante likes.

Maybe this can be a short-term upgrade on Kline, Karras, Barker

The Seahawks' decision to release veteran guard Jahri Evans is good news for the backup offensive linemen who are on the roster bubble. At least one out of George Fant, Terry Poole and Will Pericak should make the team. One factor Evans had working against him was that he was exclusively a right guard. That's not ideal for backups who could be called on to play either side in a pinch.

Aaron Dobson has a twitter scope on twitter that reads people you work with may not realize your special skills.

Things that make you go hmm.

Boy was this board livid when the Patriots passed on both Hunter and Cordarelle Patterson and traded out of round 1. (The two top picks they got in return turned into Jamie Collins and Logan Ryan, fwiw.)

That's why I leave it to BB and the other professionals.. they have a system that they stick to for better or worse.. and it's been working out for the better for 15 years

Tennessee waives Mr Irrelevent, rookie CB Kalan Reed.
He has better size than both JJones & LeBlanc, and better upside.
