Not Taking the Wind is a Fireable Offense

Why would Flores make a lateral move that would put him back in Belichick's shadow once again?
Not to mention BB has been pumping Fat Matt's tires of late.
I agree. I meant to type Patricia not Flores. I corrected the original post. Patricia and McD might go with Belichick and not return to the Pats.

What does that even mean?
I think it is one of those stupid backwards compliments similar to:
Most improved
Lots of avenues to reach potential
Etc.

Regardless, it is clear that joy and hope that he stood for is dead and gone.

I was more on the be patient side but really this is a sinking ship and maybe the best course of action is trying to fix and cleaning house fast instead of wasting 2 or 3 years down the road. To be honest, I don't think AVP is doing a terrible job, I think he could stay but Mayo and Covington are just tough to tolerate right now.

Not only that but having the #3 pick and a top QB in this past draft guaranteed, they should have gone after an offensive mind HC, that's the way the league is going these days.

Now that this is a team with a good QB to build around that will attract the attention of HC candidates. They should go after Ben Johnson that guy is doing a fine job with Goff who was a mediocre QB not long time ago.

I would go after Ben Johnson too he might be the Real deal. That said I don't like AVP he doesn't do a good job Scheming our WR's open...he might be running a obsolete scheme.

I keep seeing this. What else would you have liked to see Wolf do? Because other than the draft, it's not like he could force guys to sign here over elsewhere...?

Wolf and Highsmith are incredibly good at what they do. Go back and look at their past work, I stumbled across a bunch of it as I went back and researched guys they picked ahead of New England's draft in April. When it comes to the draft, they're not perfect, but they're pretty solid.

But drafted guys have to come here. Free agents, even though you can throw the sink at them - and they did multiple times - don't.

And they'll have a better shot next March at luring guys here now that Maye has emerged since skill guys will be more excited about coming here. That wasn't the case this offseason. Everything was a hypothetical. Now, they at least have something tangible to sell guys on.
The job of the GM is to get players signed. I wanted him to get players signed. There were over 100 free agents that are better than guys we are putting on the field. If he couldn’t convince some to sign here, there were many others.

How do you conclude Wolf is very good at his job? He has never been in charge so there isn’t really past work. The draft other than the obvious Nate choice has been awful. Maybe worse ever so far (although that could charge in time) Realize we are playing waiver wire pickups, a lot of them, and our draft picks can’t beat them out.

It’s like you are saying don’t blame the salesman who could sell anything because no one wants to buy

Good job summarizing his failures as a head coach.
As a resident of Denver for the past 20 years I can not remember a player or coach as reviled as Josh was and still is.
Hackett says hi

Also forgot to mention what he did with the Colts. While it was funny he screwed the Colts over, it wasn't a good business decision given how badly he later flamed out in Las Vegas.

He's done.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I said this in another thread but back in March, they had nothing to sell quality skill players on other than a hypothetical, which not many guys are going to uproot their families for that. The only option to get them would have been to overpay to the point where the market would have been reset at that position, and they wisely didn't do that.

If Maye keeps going at this rate, offensive players will want to come here because there's a guy here who can get them the football. But they had nobody to sell free agents on. I mean, honestly the team didn't either even from a marketing perspective, aside from maybe Gonzalez, or Hunter Henry (or Judon). This team was an absolute mess heading into that timeframe. I've said it before, but we got a look at how the other half lives. If this team was in a dome or a warmer climate, maybe a couple of them would have flipped. But the roster certainly wasn't attractive with guys FA's would want to come play with, nor was the head coach.

But nobody wants to play in miserable weather while also being unsure if the guy responsible for their success is going to be able to get them the football. And the available quality offensive linemen - many of which were older - likely wanted to go to a team who they felt had a better shot to play in January and maybe get them some extra $$ in postseason incentives.

I know you don't believe it, but it is what it is. However, I also believe - based on your other posts about this - you felt that this had less to do with Wolf and more to do with Kraft being cheap and preventing him from spending. So do you now feel like Kraft didn't stop Wolf from being able to spend the money, and it's instead now all Wolf's fault? Or am I misinterpreting what you're saying?

This year the Pats again end up with a top five draft choice and with four picks in the first three rounds garner just enough talent to improve on this season's abysmal record. Also, Maye, with his rookie season behind him, becomes even more of a force at quarterback. New England improves from 3 or 4 wins to 6 or 7 victories. None of this is attributable to Mayo and his staff, but Kraft doesn't see it that way and Mayo gets a third year.
I hope you aren’t going try and get your kids to go to sleep with THAT bedtime story.

I'd like to see it happen, but has any NFL head coach ever resigned, with the exception of retiring because of old age?

That college guy in Atlanta after the Michael Vick dog-fighting affair blew up, forget his name off the top of my head…

Here's all the dirt, but I'll give you the highlights:

Josh's ego was too fragile and didn't like it that Cutler, Scheffler and Marshall were running the show in Denver. Cutler revealed that McDaniels did try to trade for Cassell after a meeting got heated with McDaniels trying to do the Bill and rip the player. Cutler wasn't having it and asked for a trade.

Josh told the Broncos players after trading Cutler that he could turn a High School QB into an All Pro.

Immediately shipped Peyton Hillis out of Denver after McDaniels wife mentioned she was attracted to Hillis.

Not in the articles, but Shannon Sharpe has said on his show with Skip Bayless, that McDaniels was not liked in Denver which is why he was fired so quickly.

Brandon Marshall also isn't a fan and thinks he should be banned from the NFL.

David Carr said McDaniels told him Tom Brady bullied him in NE.

Then you have the locker room situation where McDaniels walked into an ambush of players going off on him and then he desperately turns to Antonio Pierce for help, only getting into it with him because he brought up Super Bowl 42. This essentially sealed his fate in Las Vegas.

He's never getting a significant job in the NFL again.

I agree with @denverpatsfan and just bookmarked this post. Appreciate you (@TheRainMaker) pulling all of that together.

Has anyone been made head coach of an NFL team with no coordinator or head coaching experience at any level of organized football? I believe it’s unprecedented (and unforgivable — I hope Kraft sells).

Jim Mora Jr?

Coached at UCLA for a few years and is currently at UConn.

Kraft won’t fire Mayo because it would be admitting a huge mistake, but I find it funny when people preach patience. Name one thing Mayo (or Wolf for that matter) have done that would earn them that grace? Most of what they’ve done since the off-season has been a laughable disaster. The only thing it seems they got right (Maye) fell right into their laps and even then a huge part of the fanbase was terrified they’d screw that up and trade back.

It sucks that they’re going to waste years of Maye’s rookie contract with this clownshow of an operation.

Let's hope this does not happen. There is no experience,\ and no Xs and Os guys on the Pats coaching staff. It is not going to work out. Let's hope we move to a new management structure quickly.

Miraculaously I think we found a SB QB. I love Maye's talent. Maye is a bit rough around the edges, but the potential is through the roof. With his great attitude, I love Maye even more. Having said that, I think Wolf, Mayo, AVP, and Covington are a clown show. If you start with a clown and ask him to pick the other coaches, one clown picks a bunch of other clowns, and you have a clown show. And for God's sake, ship Robyn Glazer out with the clown show.
